“I don’t have anything on me either…” Azure replied slowly. They had also took note of the dragon’s strange appearance. “But I have some stuff in my den that could help. I’ll go get it.” Azure closed their eyes, a light shimmer coming over their body, and then they disappeared.
Starting to grow tired of hovering in the air for so long, Kaylum flew over to the ledge and landed beside the injured dragon. “Wow,” he remarked. “They usually can’t teleport that well, it’s one of their weaker abilities.” He peered down at the stranger. “You’re not a psychic dragon, are you?”
He slowly moved closer to Kaylum, "No, I'm afraid not Your highness." The your highness had a bit of bite too it, probably sending a chill down kaylums spine, his voice dripping with venom. He swiftly reach his dragon paw and put it around kaylums throat, his extended talon pressed against the prince's throat, the extra bones and horns on his dragon body becoming more apparent. He has them retracted as too not blow his cover but by now the prince could recognize his type of dragon. "you and me are gonna have a little chat." He whispered voice dripping with venom as he glared at him.
The way the dragon addressed Kaylum didn’t send a chill down his spine, in fact, he was annoyed. He really wished the dragon could’ve called him some derogatory name instead of hearing Your Highness all over again.
Though, he was caught of guard when he felt claws wrap around his throat. He watched as the other dragon’s horns and spikes extended outward, his simultaneous confusion and morbid satisfaction growing with them. There was something wrong with this whole thing, he knew it! And yet he didn’t know what that thing was, and that annoyed him.
“A bone dragon…” his voice was breathy from the claws around his neck. “But you have the feathers of the dark ones… how?”
Part of his brain was screaming at him to teleport out of there, but the other half was extremely curious and confused. He could almost forget that the other dragon could easily strangle him.
He tched and rolled his eyes,
"let's see…i would think you would have known this little prince, when a mommy dragon and a daddy dragon get together…they make a little baby dragon… I think you can figure out the rest …what dragon was the last king?" He spoke coursely and scratchy voice, he had his grip tight against his throat with the talon staying pressed against his throat.
"Then," he tightened his grip on his neck " i want you to think about the women that was executed, publicly, and how the king slowly shriveled after she died…. That should give you enough to put things together."
He growled at him.
He was so angry you could hear it, practically feel his heart beating and him vibrating with rage. His voice dripped with venom.
Still confused, Kaylum coughed, “A… a union between dragons of different types- it’s forbidden…” then his mismatched eyes widened. “What? The former King Hansel, my uncle? What- what do you mean?”
He felt the dragon’s claws tighten. Unable to ignore them any longer, Kay teleported out of his attacker’s grip, appearing above him and flying in the air.
He took a moment to catch his breath. “King Hansel was neither bone nor dark. He was psychic, just like my father and me. What does he have to do with you?”
Kay knew his uncle had never been interested in having one partner for life. The record he’d found mentioned only one of his mistresses being publicly executed, but due to the damage done to it it never stated why. Even if this dragon could be the reason, Kay knew the mistress had been psychic to. The record described her with traits unique to psychics. How did this dragon fit into that?
There was a shimmer of light on the ledge next to the hybrid dragon. A white figure appeared, tossing their long hair over their shoulders. They held a small pouch and a roll of gauze in one hand.
“Azure!” Kay exclaimed. “Don’t get close, he’s dangerous!”
"Forbidden eh?! Is that why she had to be executed huh?!" He yelled at Kaylum, moving to try and bite at him before he teleported.
"I bet no one told you about what really happened with his mistress and why she was really executed!" He growled at Kaylum, eyes full of hate and rage.
He turned at the mention of azure and looked back at the figure, and he transformed back into a human, the bones stretching out to frame his face and coming out of his hands, he launched himself at Azure to tackle them to the ground and pin there throat with his bone like claws.
(I’m just trying to make it so they aren’t cousins, just so you know shisjns)
Azure made a pained noise and collapsed, the pouch and gauze flying from their hands. Enraged, Kaylum flew down and growled at the hybrid. Now that he was threatening his friend, he was more afraid for their safety than he was for his own. Teleporting was not Azure’s most strongest ability, and if Kay moved to help them they would get strangled. His only hope was to keep the hybrid distracted.
“Yeah, of course no one told me,” he snarled. “Why don’t you enlighten me?”
He kept his hand pressed to azures throat, pinning them down as he growled at Kaylum.
"that's a topic for another time, little princeling." He stared down kaylum.
"Look, I don't want anyone else to get hurt, and im sure you don't either, so why don't you follow me somewhere else?" He mentioned, growling and glaring at Kaylum, "Unless you don't care about them as much as you say you do.." he presses down against azures throat.
Finally, something other than Your Highness, Kaylum thought. Although it’s not much better.
“Oh come on,” he groaned. “It’s a simple question, really.”
The longer he stared at the now human hybrid, the more he was certain that he must be the guard who called for Xiomara earlier in the palace. He had been trying to get her away from Kay, and Kay had been unwittingly helping him. He could only hope that Xiomara had somehow notified the other guard and they were on their way, but there was a likely possibility that she had been completely incapacitated by this hybrid. For now, he couldn’t count on any back up.
Azure’s eyes shined with fear, but Kay caught something like resolve flashing as they flicked in his direction. “It’s fine, Kay,” they rasped. “I’ll be fine. But he can’t have you. You aren’t as disposable as I am.”
“Don’t say that.” Kay curled his lip in a combination of sadness and outrage that they would say something like that. “I can take care of myself. But I can’t have you die for me, I couldn’t live with that.” He turned his attention to the hybrid. “I’ll go with you. But leave them out of this.”
he almost started to get mad at how the dragon could just throw their life away for the prince, he was about to comment angrily on it when the prince stopped him, "Well, at least the prince is right about one thing." He spoke that softly moving to grab Azures throat with his hand and talons along his hand so that they could not try and escape.
"as i have no reason to trust you they will be coming with us until we get where i want you to be, and then i will let them go."
He moved to press a pressure point of azure and knock them out cold, and holding them over his shoulder with a tight grip.
"start moving."
Well shoot, the guy was smarter than he looked. Azure went limp, only a small, startled noise coming out at being hit. Kay flinched, a tightness gripping his chest as his tail began to swish back and forth agitatedly. It pained him to see his friend like this. If only he had done something about the hybrid sooner…
Enough. He had to focus. From the way things were going, the only way they could both get out of this was to comply. Once he saw an opportunity, he would make an escape.
“Before I do,” he said, “you know who I am, but I don’t know you. May I have your name?”
He rolled his eyes, "You know what? For the short life span you have left, I'll humor you. Call me Aragon." He didn't make eye contact with the prince for a while, before moving to walk Infront of him, he transformed into a dragon, holding onto Azure with his talons as he flew.
Azure looked as if she might fall if his grip was any looser then it was at the moment.
“Aragon,” Kaylum mused thoughtfully. “Interesting. I don’t suppose you’re actually centuries older than you actually look?” To him, the name sounded rather old fashioned.
He spread his wings and followed them, flying slightly below them in case something happened and Azure fell.
"I'm probably older then you by at least a year, but other then that, no. I'm not a centurys year old being, now will you stop asking questions or will I have to gag you?" He growled at Kaylum.
“There’s no need for that. I have nothing else to say.” Of course, that wasn’t really true. Question after question ran through Kaylum’s mind, but he could tell the other dragon wouldn’t be in the mood to answer them. It would be pointless to question him when he clearly wasn’t in the best position to do so.
"Yeah right, as if i believed that." He stopped after a certain point of travel time, setting down azure and then moving to go back up in the air.
"Come on, let's go. You and me aren't finished yet."
Kaylum landed next to Azure and nudged them with his muzzle, causing them to stir. “Kay…? What’s going on?”
“He’s letting you go,” Kay murmured quickly. “You should teleport before he can use you against me again.”
Azure sat up. “I don’t think I can’t teleport again… and why don’t you teleport, then?”
Kay glanced at Aragon, then back at Azure. “No can do. If I teleport and you don’t, he’ll catch up to you. Just go. Besides, I want to get to the bottom of this.” He paused, twitching his ear. “Man, if I knew this would happen if I went outside the palace, I would’ve gone out sooner. Well, minus him threatening you, of course.”
Azure stared at him for a moment. “You make it sound like the king and queen hold you prisoner,” they said, shaking their head.
“They kind of do, Az.” He bowed his head to preen his feathers. “Now, go. We’re probably making him impatient.”
“Are you seriously gonna-“ they stopped themself and sighed. Lifting their wings, they took off back the way they came. Kaylum watched them leave, then turned to Aragon.
“Oh boy, can’t wait. Is it a secret birthday party?” He asked sarcastically, following the hybrid into the air.
He did not look happy that he woke up Azure earlier then he wanted, he sighed frustratedly.
"nope, not even close, follow me. We're taking a little detour since you decided to wake up that little friend of yours early." He grumbled at him turned a sharp left, but making sure that Kaylum was behind him was seriously thinking of gagging him but he didn't to kaylums luck.
Early? Kaylum tched. As if there was a specific time Azure could wake up. He begrudgingly followed Aragon to the left with a tilt of his wings. All he needed to do was find a good opportunity that would allow him to escape, then he could give this hybrid a piece of his mind.
He continued to make sharp turns before getting to clearing in the forest area without so Many rocky ledges to land on, there was a den down towards the clearing and he made his way towards it landing swiftly.
Kaylum tried to stay aware of their position. They were flying down the mountain, into more forested territory where the farmers lived. How far away were they from the palace now? Kay wasn’t sure, but perhaps a few miles to the south.
Once they reached the den, he landed behind Aragon. He silently studied the den’s entrance, then kept his eyes on the other dragon.
He landed on the ground Infront of the entrance to the den, looking back to make sure that Kaylum was still behind him, he walked over to Kaylum, and waited for him go in before he did. "you first"
