Donovan frowned slightly, feigning hurt. "Disgusting? I'm not disgusting. At least, I don't think I'm disgusting. His expression softened into faint smile. "And I'm sure you probably don't truly think that, either." There was no fear of her in his eyes.
Meanwhile, Reid struggled with his own problems– namely, Liam. Reid dove out of the way of another one of Liam's blasts, the glared up at his enemy. He would've tried to fire some electrical blasts back at him with his bionic arm, but… that would be pretty pointless. And stupid on his part, considering that Liam had electricity manipulation. The purpose would be defeated and he'd end up looking dumb. But he was fairly convinced he couldn't feel much dumber than he did now, trying to avoid getting fried to a crisp whilst Liam taunted him. "Oh, please–" Reid snapped, his face flushed with irritation. "We'd have beat you already if it wasn't for–" He glanced over at Omen and Phoenix right about that time, just in time to see the man disappear into a portal. Only a split second passed before another opened directly beside Elisia, and Donovan grabbed her by the wrist and yanked her inside.
As far as Reid could tell, they were both gone.
He uttered a word that his parents would not have approved of had they been present and ran over to where Elisia had been, seemingly unconcerned now with Liam or his lightning bolts. There was no trace of her, or of Omen, or anything. "Where'd they go?!" He demanded, glowering at Liam.
"Attempting to kill me would be a pointless endeavor, so please don't bother," Donovan said calmly as he yanked her into his portal– which was like stepping through a doorway to another dimension. Except it wasn't another dimension; it was a room, likely in his lair for lack of a better, less cliche term. Except it wasn't a dark, musty room like one would expect of a stereotypical villain-lair, but cleaner. More airy.
Elisia yelped when she was dragged into the portal and got into a defensive position upon landing. "Where the hell have you taken me?" She asked, her tone demanding and assertive. "Let me go!" She formed a couple more fireballs to protect herself.
Liam scoffed when Reid attempted to demand information from him. "You think I know? Omen doesn't tell me anything. We're temporarily partners, not best friends." He rained down some more lightning, still seeming rather pleased. "I wouldn't count on seeing her again if I were you."
"As you wish," Donovan purred, releasing her and stepped back to avoid getting scorched by her flames. A grin tugged at the corner of his mouth, and he motioned to the room around them. "Welcome to my humble abode." Humble wasn't the right word for it. It was extravagant. But… it didn't look like a lair. It looked like a massive dining room, one that was currently empty of any people. The odd thing about it was that there were absolutely no windows. No clear ways of escape. Only the elegant table and furniture that surrounded it, and an expensive chandelier than dangled overhead.
"Before you get the idea to try to kill me, please be aware that you'll never set foot out of this place again without my help. Besides, I don't want to kill you, so the least you could do is return the favor." He didn't look worried. He looked relaxed, straightening his coat collar calmly. "I just want to give you the tour." His smirk widened. "And show you the room I have prepared, specially for you."
"Oh, you bet I will!" Reid snapped in return, his face flushed with anger. As far as he was concerned, no psychopath like Donovan or no bratty villain like Liam were going to keep him from finding Elisia. Not if he had anything to say about it. Well, he wasn't sure if he did have anything to say about it… But he was going to say something, anyways. Figuratively, of course.
Right now he was too busy trying not to get electrocuted. He needed to find a more efficient way to fight Liam off, and then he could go after Elisia.
Elisia glared daggers at Donovan, but reluctantly extinguished the fireballs for now. "Why do you want me here? Are you going to torture me or something? What do you want from me, Omen?" She glanced around the room warily. Nice place… but I don't plan on sticking around if I can help it. I need to get back out there to defend the city and help Reid.
"Your loss, Surge." Liam lazily sent a few more lightning bolts Reid's way. He was quickly draining his power and was growing exhausted, but he couldn't let Reid know that. "It hurts more to lose someone if you hold out hope of seeing them again, you know."
"Torture you?" Donovan echoed with a light scoff, as if the very assumption was downright ridiculous. "Lord, no, darling. Not even close. I'd never do such a thing to a specimen as valuable as yourself." He eyed her a moment. "That would be like going through the trouble to steal and a diamond just to throw it down a well. That would be– well, downright stupid. I'm a lot of things, but wasteful is not one of them. And tasteless isn't, either." He stepped a bit closer to her again once the flames were out, though he had no weapons drawn. "I think you've mislabeled me, my girl."
Reid sent a zap or two back in Liam's direction, though he presumed it to be pointless. He was growing annoyed with this little back-and-forth game, and he was ready to end it. Heroes weren't generally supposed to kill people unless left with no other option, but Reid was growing desperate– which was why he pulled the gun off of his belt and sent a few bullets towards Liam's irritating cloud. "She's only been gone two minutes," he retorted, though it might not've even been that long yet. "Besides– I wouldn't be much of a hero if I gave up that easily."
"A 'specimen'." The word dripped with disgust. She loathed it. "I am not a 'specimen', Omen, nor do I belong to you. I belong to no one, but especially not you. This is absolutely preposterous. Release me this instant." She crossed her arms, huffing indignantly as she glared up at Donovan.
Liam absorbed the electrical energy with a bored hum. One of the bullets nicked his shoulder and he bit down hard on his lip to keep quiet. "You know how Omen works, and so do I. He's not going to give her up. The man is insane."
"Oh, but I mean it in the most respectful of ways." Donovan crept a little closer, his eyes locked on her. "Though, I'm afraid I can't allow you to leave. You're far too valuable for that." A small smile twisted the corner of his lips. "You asked me what I wanted from you? Well, that was the wrong question. You see, I don't want anything from you, dearest. I simply want you." He pulled a little bracelet-looking device off of his belt in an instant and clipped it around her wrist, though it's immediate purpose was unclear.
"Yeah, he's a flippin' psycho. So why the crap would you work with him?!" Reid growled and fired a few more rounds at Liam before muttering, "We'll see how he works when I have a gun against the back of his head." Reid didn't care if Omen intended to give Elisia up or not. Reid was getting her back one way or another.
Elisia immediately started tugging at the bracelet when it was put on, but to no avail. It was stuck. "What the hell are you doing to me?? Why do you want me?" She asked, now furious. "What do you even want me for?!"
"I'm working with him because he offered. Presumably because I'm closer to Phoenix than he is. I can provide information, and he can provide power. Whatever sick plans he's got, I don't have to worry about. It's none of my concern." Liam moved his thundercloud out of harm's way.
"For myself, of course," Donovan said calmly, as if it this were obvious. "That's just a gift." He gestured to the bracelet. "And a little safety precaution, in case you get a little too rambunctious and try to fry me to a crisp. It'll give you a little zap if you get out of hand, but nothing too serious. Like I said, I don't want to hurt you. So as long as you're good– I won't." He clasped his hands together. "Now, are you ready for the grand tour?"
Reid growled through gritted teeth. "It'll be your concern when I get my hands on you!" He sucked in a deep breath to try to calm himself down. "Okay, you know what? Forget it. I don't have time for this. I have more important things to deal with." Namely, rescuing Elisia. Forget Liam; he needed to save his friend. The girl he loved.
"I'm not your pet, and I have no desire to live here. I'm not your little puppy dog in training with a shock collar for whenever I get out of line. First and foremost, I'm a person, and I have basic human rights. Now, take this bracelet off." She held her arm out expectantly to Donovan.
"You have fun with that, Surge." Liam flew off silently. Time to find some alleyway to pass out in for a bit… He found one and curled up on the ground, managing to send a message to Donovan before he passed out.
Drained and injured
Currently hiding, Surge is searching
Donovan smiled. "That's adorable. You actually think I'm going to just let you leave?" He chuckled softly. "Hmm. You're even cuter than I thought, poppet." Instead of taking off the bracelet, he grabbed her wrist and kissed the back of her palm. He might've had more to say, had not he been distracted by an incoming message. He frowned and reluctantly released Elisia, glancing at the message. He scoffed at it.
If I see him, I will kill him.
Reid had no idea where to start, so he went back to base– where he had access to more abundant technology. Since technology was his strength, that was what he'd depend on to find Donovan and Elisia. He wasn't sure where to look, so he started by trying to track energy readings in the past hour, checking scanners and satellites. Omen's teleportation used a lot of energy, so surely it'd be detectable…
"Poppet?" Elisia yanked her wrist out of Donovan's grasp and glared at him in disgust. She tried to subtly get a glimpse of the message, but couldn't. "What is it? Did Surge destroy the kid you're babysitting or something?" She asked, scoffing a bit. "How did he even convince you to work with him anyways?"
Liam remained unconscious in the alleyway, which was thankfully dark to keep him undetected. He was in a good deal of pain and would likely be out for a good long while. He'd send Donovan another message when he came to.
"No," Donovan replied calmly. "But you might want to pray you're little friend doesn't come looking for you, because I'd hate to kill an ignorant little child." Nevermind that Reid was only a couple years younger than Donovan. He shook his head slowly, as if he were disappointed in even having to consider such a thing. He stopped and glanced back up at her. "And– I went to Nimbus."
Meanwhile, Reid was hurrying to begin his search, which would take him some time to start, considering he had to get back to base, scrounge up the needed equipment and technology, and determine what kind of energy readings to even begin searching for.
"Surge isn't a child. He's an adult and perfectly capable of defending himself." Although I hope for his sake that he doesn't find me… I can get out on my own and he wouldn't get hurt… Her hostile expression grew into one of confusion at Donovan's last statement. "What do you mean you went to him? Why? Surely he's of no help to you."
Liam groaned softly in pain and stirred a bit, trembling slightly as his brain faltered between planes of consciousness and unconsciousness. He wanted to wake up, but as of his current state, he was unable to.
"Why, to get to you, of course," Donovan responded gently. "Granted, I'm more powerful than Nimbus in most ways– but he knew how to get you. You and your little sidekick fight with him on a regular basis, after all. He's more experienced in that area than I am, even if I've fought and destroyed far more heroes. So I went to him." He smiled. "And I didn't make a mistake, either."
Reid's search was still underway, though it had only been a few minutes since Elisia's capture, so he hadn't gotten far; but he was determined, and working as fast as he could. He would find her, one way or another. He promised himself. And when he did, he was going to have a few choice words for Omen.
Elisia scoffed and shook her head a bit. "You're unbelievable. I still don't know why you seem so intent on owning me or whatever your goal is. Care to explain that or are you just going to leave me in the dark?"
Liam stirred again and groaned, still not quite able to wake up. He'd likely be out for another hour or so to recharge and regain his strength, at which point he would retreat back into hiding.
"Hm." Donovan was silent a moment, his smirk ever-present as he admired her. "You are absolutely precious when you're ticked off." He reached up and let the tips of his fingers gently brush against her hair. "I thought it was fairly obvious as to why I brought you here. I apologize that I haven't made myself clearer." His eyes studied her a moment. "It's simple, really. You're perfect, and I desired to have you. And now I do." His smile softened, but widened. "Now, are you ready for the tour?"
Elisia smacked Donovan's hand away when he tried to touch her, huffing indignantly. "I would love to be shown to the door, Omen. That's the only tour I'm interested in." She crossed her arms and glared up at him. "Not only can you not own me, you don't deserve to. I've no desire to be anywhere near you."
(Hi there. Sorry I've been dead and mega inactive. Life is wack.)
