“Just you,” Evelyn said, smiling. “What brings you to this fine park this morning?” she asked, crossing her legs and leaning forward to look at something through her camera.
“Just you,” Evelyn said, smiling. “What brings you to this fine park this morning?” she asked, crossing her legs and leaning forward to look at something through her camera.
"School art assignment I'm working on" she replied, watching her scan through her camera, "You?" she asked, her voice slightly raised at the end
"Hey, me too." Evelyn stayed bent over but turned her head to look at the girl. "I have to photograph strangers. Wait a moment," she muttered. "Wait just a moment." She got up off the bench and bent down in front of the girl, looking at her through her camera. She looked up. "Would you mind if I photographed you?" she asked. "You can continue your art assignment and all, the lighting is just perfect at the moment. If not though, it's all right"
"Um uh…Yeah" she replied, looking down at her sketchbook and starting
"Great." Evelyn grinned. She stayed in the position she was and snapped a few shots, then took pictures from either side of the girl. She stopped to look at her camera, thought for a moment, then went around behind the girl and took pictures there. She took a few more from the front, then sat down on her spot on the bench again. She snapped one more photo, then started looking through the pictures.
"Any good ones?" she asked, a nervous laugh errupting from her voice. A rush of wind blew her hair back neatly underneath her beanie and leaves mingled benath her feet.
"Yeah, check it out." Evelyn showed her the camera. The girl looked focused and beautiful in her beanie, with her pencil in her hand. The wind blew her hair in some of the shots. "I mean I still have to edit them, but they look really good so far."
Aaliyah blushed lightly, "Well, you seem like a good photographer" she muttered, watching as she flipped through the pictures
"I try," Evelyn said with a grin. She almost winked but she didn't feel bold enough. She looked down at her watch. 'Oh shoot,' she thought. She pulled her camera back towards her and started going through the pictures herself, waiting for the girl to go back to her drawing.
Aaliyah soon returned her focus back to her sketch, the scenery starting to take form
Evelyn pulled her bag on her lap, looking for something. She slowly placed a small piece of paper on the bench, put her camera in her bag and stood up. "Thanks for letting me photograph you," she said, smiling.
(Btw, the paper is her number, "Evelyn", and a heart)
"No problem" she replied picking up the paper
Evelyn walked away to her class that started in seven minutes. She stood at a crosswalk and looked down at her phone. She knew it was silly to expect a text so soon. Evelyn put her phone away and crossed the street. She sat through her color theory class, daydreaming about the girl in the park.
She typed the number into her phone and texted about 10 minutes later, «Hey» she texted, pressing send
The second her class was over Evelyn checked her phone. She smiled, looking at the text. «Hi» «Sorry I was in a class» she texted quickly.
« It's alright.» she replied, sending it and not knowing what else to say
«so i never caught your name», Evelyn texted.
«Aaliyah, you?» she asked, rolling over in her bed.
(She got home while evelyn was in class)
«evelyn» «nice to meet you aaliyah» she texted back. She stood in the doorway of the building, watching her phone and smiling. She walked out the door and started the walk to her photo editing class, desperate to edit the photos she took of Aaliyah.
«You have a pretty name» she texted back, glancing out her window
Evelyn glanced down at her phone and smiled. «thanks» she texted. «i like yours too. it's cool». She got to her class and sat down. Her teacher came over and Evelyn showed her the pictures. The teacher commented on them, then left her to her editing. «i'm in my editing class now» «my teacher likes the pictures i took of you»
«Your teacher must not be very judgemental» she replied, «You in collage or highschool?» she asked
«college» «you?» «see that's the thing. she usually is extremely judgemental, they were just good photos» «i guess she liked my model» «and frankly, so do i» Evelyn was about to send something else but stopped when she saw how many texts she had sent. She didn't want to keep blowing up Aaliyah's phone.
«Oh? Good thing I like my photographer. Nice to know the feeling is genuine» she replied, a smirk coming across her face
Evelyn stared at the screen, a big smile on her face. «oh yeah it definitely is» She tapped her thumbs against the sides of her phone case and bit her lip. She wanted to say something but she wasn't sure if it was too risky. She took a deep breath and quickly typed, «are you busy friday evening/afternoon?» and hit send. She was about to put her phone away but stopped to say «also i gotta go to class rn so i'll talk later».
