name: Anatole L. García

sexual/romantic orientation: Pan, not on the ace spectrum (I know there's a word for this but I cannot recall it :p).

appearance: Standing at 6'2 and with poorly dyed green-highlighter-hair, Anatole is decidedly a presence in whatever room they enter. Naturally broad shouldered, years and years of weightlifting and wrestling left them with a muscled frame, which, combined with their penchant for eclectic queer street-wear (baggy ripped jeans over fishnets, anyone?) can lead them to look fairly intimidating. They have expressive brown eyes so dark they nearly blend into their pupils and umber skin. Their hair, which ends and curls just around the bottom of their ears, is very poorly dyed, striped with coffee brown in patches and a sickly-bleach yellow in others where the dye missed. Unfortunately for Anatole, their friend Daylily wasn't as good of a stylist as he claimed. They never miss the opportunity to point out that though their teeth are very straight and white thanks to the careful work of their dentist father, they are far from either. All of their friends are painfully sick of the joke.

personality: Anatole is inherently spontaneous and chaotic, always inclined to ditch a plan in favor of a more exciting alternative. They're a romantic, often abandoning reality for daydreams and promising fictions and end up being easily disappointed because of this. When it comes to their friends, they're painfully loyal, forgiving easily and going along with a lot they don't agree with because if their friends are doing it, it has to be okay, right? Outwardly extroverted, they're happy to strike up a conversation with whoever they sit next to on the subway (not an excellent trait for a New Yorker, tbh) but it takes a long time for them to let anyone see behind their mask of perpetual glee. They often will abandon new friends within the first month or so, if they grow dull, but will keep friends forever once they've latched on to a person. Anatole has few concrete intrests, picking up a new hobby every few weeks only to drop it when they get bored, and takes ages to finish any book due to their tendency to start multiple at the same time, picking their way through many simultaneously over a month or so. As expected, this doesn't lead to excellent academic prospects and it was only on their father's insistence they ended up applying to and attending college, originally to study neurology, though they switched to a library science program halfway through their first year.

background: Anatole was born to a Caucasian mother and second generation Mexican American father. Their mother left when Anatole was eight to further immerse herself in her study of medicinal plants in Brazil, supposedly only intending to stay for two months in the summer, but slowly her texts and calls stopped coming and Anatole's father, Daniel, received her divorce papers in the mail the day before Christmas. Daniel didn't tell Anatole exactly what had happened until they were 13, and Anatole didn't think to ask which really highlights how unobservant they were as a child. Daniel is a dentist who owns his own practice and has always been very invested in Anatole's future, paying for them to attend The City College of New York in hopes they can finally choose a concrete career and make a respectable living for themself. While the pair's relationship has always been solid, Daniel disapproved heavily of Anatole's willingness to drink with friends and at parties in high school. Then, just after Anatole announced their switch from neurology to library science, Daniel presented an announcement of his own: he had a steady girlfriend named Elise Salmeron. This shook Anatole so much they decided to continue to live in their college dorm over the summer, working and hanging out with friends.

other: One of the few exceptions to Anatole's chaotic tendencies is a book called Children of Ozone, which they've loved since reading it in their freshman year of high school. They reread it multiple times a year, often when sad or stressed as a coping mechanism to block out the negative emotion, and wants nothing more than to meet it's author– the elusive woman who writes under the pseudonym Cave Opal. A song that reminds, ~me~, the author, of them is blackboard.edu by Arlie.

name: Kolten Lyle Grey (his nickname is Kolt)
gender & pronouns: male, he/him
age: 18
sexual/romantic orientation: pansexual, gray romantic
appearance: Kolten is 5'6", so he's very much shorter than the other guys at school, but he doesn't mind it, instead owns it. Paired with that, he weighs 121 lbs. Kolten is famously known for his Cerulean Blue dyed hair. He keeps it fresh as best as he can, getting a haircut whenever it starts to get long again. His natural hair color is blonde, not a single curl or wave to it, though, the thickness makes it look permanently fluffy in the morning when he wakes with a bedhead. He usually doesn't bother in brushing it since he thinks it looks fine anyways. It doesn't seem like it, but Kolten is very popular with the girls, they even have a nickname for him, "ocean eyes", hinting at his icy blue eyes. The guys aren't too thrilled of Kolten being around since he gets most of the attention from the ladies, even if he is treated more like a little brother.
Kolten is very much a femboy. He crossdresses a lot, earning him the name "faggot" from some of his classmates. Kolten is openly gay and isn't afraid of expressing it by wearing skirts and dresses. He likes to wear small accessories like chokers, earrings, and cute bracelets- even going as far as painting his nails his favorite color. The main colors he gravitates towards when dressing for school are muted grey, purples, and rust reds and oranges.

personality: Kolten has a lot of his older brother's personality traits. One of those being the anger. Kolten won't hesitate to start a fight even if he knows that he'll get beat up. One may even say that he does it just for that. Kolten doesn't really bully anyone, in fact, he's not too fond of people and stays out of their way. He's an ambivert, so even if he can stay by himself for hours on end, he still craves physical interaction now and then. Kolten may not show it since he puts up a tough exterior, but he's very much a crybaby- a sensitive kid. He takes things to heart even when he "brushes it off". There's also this other side of Kolten that no one really knows about. Kolten's secret- a side of him that screams murder. Only his older brother knows. They're very close due to events in their earlier years. The secret being that he's someone who would have no problem killing someone else, in fact, he's already gotten away with murder once. If someone messes with Kolten enough, another person is bound to turn up missing again. Aside from this, Kolten isn't scared of approaching others either if they call him out first. The kid seems innocent and cute at first but once you get to know him, he comes off as intense. He flirts a lot. And that's an understatement, but only with people who he doesn't really think much of (he uses people sort of like practice). He also uses a lot of explicit language, so watch out for that.

background: Kolten was born when his brother was already a year old. Both his mother and father are fully American and by the time he was twelve Kolten understood why his parents fought so much. Kolten's mother wasn't the only woman in the picture, and as it turns out, they had half-siblings that would visit every other day. It always led to very uncomfortable situations, though, there was always the yelling and fighting at the end of the day- that never changed. At age fourteen there was something that happened that did change everything. For the worse.
On a Friday night, Kolten's father arrived home drunk. Kolten was up baking, practicing his skills as he always did. It was one of his favorite things to do. As usual, his father started to nag on Kolten, that a male should not be baking, especially that late at night. Kolten stood up for himself and the fight escalated. Soon, his father assaulted him, knocking him to the floor. The ruckus woke up his mother, but by the time she arrived at the kitchen there was blood everywhere, Kolten passed out and his father on top of him. At the sight of the blood, she screamed and backed away, not doing anything to stop it. Kolten's older brother came home from his shift just in time to witness the atrocity. One would have assumed that his father would have stopped after Kolten passed out but he hadn't stopped and it took Kolten's brother to use a gun on him to make him stop. Kolten briefly woke up to the sound of a gunshot before he found his father dead on top of him. No matter how many years of therapy he took, it would not erase the memory of that night, the sensation of getting hit hard was burned to his brain and the still corpse of his father- his blood splattered on Kolten's face after his father had gotten shot in the back of the head.
Their mother was devastated afterward, having lost the love of her life. She turned the blame on her kids after the whole ordeal was over, not wanting to take responsibility for her lack of action when the events took place.
Two years later, Kolten was forced to move in with his mother- his brother already having moved out, not being able to stand his mother's new boyfriend. Kolten didn't really pay attention to him much and let him wander the apartment as he did his own thing, but the guy seemed to have a sick obsession with Kolten at the time and the worst happened. It was Kolten's first exposure to sexual abuse. Not wanting to start any more drama in the family- with his mother, Kolten never spoke out against him and just let it happen. A part of him felt like he deserved it for what happened to his biological father. Despite this, he always threw up afterward, not being able to stomach it. Even now, when he's obligated to visit his mother, it never ceases to make him throw up before he's even entered the apartment.

other: uhhh i feel like my writing is subpar to yours, but i guess Kolten's theme song would be battle cry by imagine dragons lmao
also, he's very much obsessed with astronomy (loves looking at the sky when he's feeling stressed) and baking.
