Heya! I’ve started a few other role plays on here, but I’ve noticed there’s a hint of a lack of reaper ones. By reaper, I mean grim reaper-esque, interestingly themed tales. I don’t know if I want to do a modern take on reapers. It’d be interesting to see them as true neutral people that decide whether those that are dying should live or die based on facts/their future/past. This could also be the cause of miracles. Of course, taking a different spin on it could be rather fun as well. We could make them have special abilities and actually hunt lost souls/runaways down like bounty hunters. Do you have any ideas?
Just gonna ask real quick, are you referring to any specific type of reaper from a show, book, movie,etc?

Maybe we could do modern day reapers? I was kind of thinking of a sort of reaper that needed to touch somebody to take their soul right before they died, then protect them in the journey to the afterlife. What do you think?
Interesting thought! That brings up another question, though—could they have different jobs? Some could actually protect them on the way to the afterlife, while others could hunt down people trying to escape death. Some could even be on a council checking the actions of reapers. Others could try and take souls being escorted for their own. Does that sound cool?

Great! Names would be really cool, but we should also start thinking up character ideas. This takes place on Earth, right? Also, what gender are our characters? Do you accept any LGBT+ characters?
I have characters of every gender (when I say every gender I don't mean every specific gender, I mean cic/trans male and female, and non binary) and lots of gay/bi/pan/aro/ace characters so yes, I accept LGBT+ characters lol.
And yeah I think that this taking place on Earth would keep things less complicated.
Great! I might make my character a demisexual male with panromantic tendencies if that’s alright with you. I could totally see this whole thing in Earth, but reapers would definitely be kept away from the public gaze. The idea of them having certain weapons to guide/reap souls with (like the scythe) is something we need to consider as well, as are these other questions:
My answers personally are yes to all three, but I’d like to see what’s you think! Also, sorry if this requires quite a bit of planning—it’ll make it more rewarding to do, you know?
I'm actually glad we're planning this out, it minimizes future bumps and confusion. And I'd say yes to all except for the carrying part. It makes them more obvious to the public eye. Unless reapers can also be spellcasters so they can cast something that keeps people's gaze away from them or they have certain other protections to prevent that, it could make things very difficult.
I think they should have basic magic that could disguise their objects/vehicles as something else, something more normal. It’d make it easier to explain if someone saw somebody else dying. Instead of seeing someone touching them, they’d see nothing but the person fading away.
The reaper head council could be called La Conseil de la Mort in slight homage to the Danse Macabre if you want.
Maybe they could be invisible to all except for the people who's souls they have to reap (and other reapers of course)?
And that sounds like a good name but I'm not going to remember it haha

Yeah, that sounds great! As for the council’s name, I can remember it for you. Just ask if you need it! And I feel like if they have vehicles they could just be parked invisibly wherever they want. Like, some could park them in abandoned houses or alleys or on rooftops, but busy roads aren’t generally a good idea because invisible doesn’t mean untouchable.
I think it’s time for characters! This is always the fun part.

Oh, I didn’t have one planned. Here, something like this should do:

Looks- (eye color/hair details/approximate height/skin color/anything you like about them or find important/details like freckles or scars/etc.)
Typical Style- (clothes they’d normally wear)
Job(s)- (I think some reapers could disguise as human and get human jobs as well as their normal one if desired)
Basic Personality- (what they normally act like/anything you think is interesting)
Pet(s)- (if any)
Family- (if any/names/ages)
Reaper Weapon-
Extra- (anything else you’d like to put, maybe like likes/dislikes or something)
Is there anything you want to add/change? Backstory can come as the story progresses.
