Lachy was shaking, hands trembling as he wrapped them around himself. He felt too exposed but he didn't know if he could cover up or not. Not if he could potentially get in trouble if he did. He glanced over at Aidan, picking up on the fact that he, too was nervous, "Do.. Do you think it'll work?" He asked, filling the silence of the room.
“I-I honestly don’t know. Wish I did know.” He knew he wouldn’t be able to calm down easily. His heart rate was pretty high too. Being near Lachy helped for some reason, but not enough. Aidan found himself randomly wishing he could hold Lachy’s hand. But he’d never risk doing it.
Lachy released a breath, only standing from the bed to start pacing around the room, "I don't get it," He mumbled, "Are we really that dangerous they have to- to do this?" He wrung his hands together, not knowing what to do without the safety blanket he called a sweater. He more he paced, the more nervous he got.
Aidan stood up too, prepared to stop his pacing if needed. He didn’t want them to get in trouble because of it. “We’re not, they just don’t understand.” He said, getting in the way of Lachy’s pacing. “Why don’t you sit down, okay?” He asked soothingly, looking Lachy in the eyes.
Lachy only held the eye contact for a moment before he looked down, biting on his bottom lip. He didn't want to listen to the guy with fire powers out of all people and he didn't know why that tone kind of.. relaxed him, at least a little. He rocked back on his heels, "I feel like I might explode if I sit down."
“Yeah but if you keep being upset they might decide to come do something about it. We just have to cooperate for a bit. So please, just sit down okay?” This was the most amount of words Aidan had like, ever said to Lachy. He did sound genuinely concerned and worried for him too.
Lachy huffed, and it was almost like the lights flickered softly with it, "Fine." He headed back over to the bed, sitting and bringing his knees to his chest to cover up, "I think that's the most I've heard you talk." He said, glancing back over to Aidan.
Aidan had slowly walked back to his own bed, sitting down. He seemed almost embarrassed by Lachy’s comment. “Just don’t talk to people much I guess.” He grumbled. Now that his whole dramatic moment was over, he was back to being scared. He involuntarily shuddered and wrapped his arms around himself. He just wanted to feel safe, which was impossible here.
Sighing, Lachy laid back against the bed, keeping his arms wrapped around his stomach. He hated being so exposed. He hated having all of his scars so painfully on display for Aidna and the people watching through the cameras. And it didn't help the fact that he looked like a literal twig standing next Aidan as well, "Is there a reason you don't talk?"
“Well for the most part, people are annoying assholes, so I just save myself time by not talking to anyone.” He was surprised when the words left his mouth so easily. Even though it wasn’t much he’d still told Lachy his true, honest thoughts. It wasn’t something he did naturally.
Lachy looked over for a moment before he went back to staring at the ceiling, "Fair enough, I get that." He'd been the same for a while, but for Lachy it was more he was scared people were going to turn out like his parents and brother, so he stayed away from most.
“People..they can change so quickly. I hate that. They’re unpredictable, and pretty much always betray you. The only good thing about this place is if someone ends up betraying you, you know that one of you will die sooner or later, so it doesn’t even matter.” He said this all rather nonchalantly, picking at the skin around his nails.
Lachy swallowed, the thought didn't sit well with him but he knew Aidan was right, "Everyone is so two-faced these days… even the people you think you can trust. I just… want to get out of here," He said softly, "Not that the outside world is any better.. but maybe better then in here." A lie.
“I’ve been trying to get out of here for the last nine months, but as you can see I’m still here.” He smiled sadly. “It’s funny, I think I’m the only one who actually wants to go back to being normal.” And by normal, Aidan of course meant back to being straight.
Lachy frowned at that, "But… you've been given a gift, though. We all have. How would you want to give that up just to fit in with the rest of this messed up world?" Even though Lachy didn't like being here, he hated it to his core, but he knew he couldn't change who he was. He liked guys and everyone else, he wasn't going to try and change that. It was who he was.
“I never wanted this. I fucked up everyone’s lives with my ‘gift.’ Accidentally sent three guys to the hospital.” He laughed bitterly. “You know what, I don’t even know why I’m telling you this.” And with that, he went back to his silence. He’d gone from nice and friendly to bitter very quickly.
Lachy sighed through his nose. He was going to reply but decided against it, not when Aidan had turned bitter in a matter of seconds. So much for any chance of a friendship. He honestly felt… slightly sad at the thought but he quickly pushed that away and closed his eyes. If they weren't going to talk he might as well rest.
After maybe of thirty seconds of silence he spoke up again, his voice back to being gentle. “I’m sorry, I’m just really stressed right now, and it makes me more snappy than normal. You’re right, it is a gift. And I don’t want them to take it from me”
Lachy rubbed at his face with both hands, leaving them there for a moment, "You can't just change who you are. we were born this way for a reason and now we just have to live with the fact that… we're different and some people don't agree with it."
“I know.” He said softly, laying back down on the bed, staring up at the ceiling. He’d always known that, deep down. But the more overpowering voice in his head was the one telling him he shouldn’t feel the way he did about guys. And that he shouldn’t be different, that different was bad. He let out a small sigh.
Lachy closed his eyes again, trying to focus on calming his breathing. He started to shiver, clearly they'd turned on the air conditioning to see if it had any effect on Aidan since well, fire and all. Unfortunately for Lachy, he was majorly effected by the cold and curled up to preserve his body heat.
Aidan on the other hand, was completely fine. He could tell that they’d turned on the air conditioning, but he wasn’t really cold. However, he quickly noticed that Lachy wasn’t as lucky. “Hey, are you okay?” He asked, his voice filled with concern.
Lachy nodded, quickly draping the sweater over his body to hopefully stop the shivering, "Fine. Just a little cold." He mumbled. He was more then just a little cold but he wouldn't admit it nor would be accept any help. He'd be just fine, eventually.
“You seem more than just a little cold.” He replied. Yet again he was back to sounding worried, none of his anger from before remained in his voice. “Hopefully we’ll get this over with soon.” While his anxiety about this whole experience had lessened a bit, that didn’t change the fact that he didn’t want to be here.
"I'm fine, Aidan," Lachy said a little firmer then intended. He wanted to go back to their room, if you could even call it that. It was better then being in here, watched like a lab rat, "I just wanna get outta here…" He sighed, curling up a little more.
