"Oh, really? Huh, I thought I knew everyone who used to live here. I've lived here almost my whole life," Autumn explained. She didn't mention that she traveled a lot, too, because that would warrant the question of 'Why?'

Alex nodded. “Makes sense. Everyone’s so nice here, I’m kinda surprised I haven’t seen you around either.” He smiled warmly again.
"Yeah, that's funny," Autumn agreed, laughing a bit.
Alex laughed gently too, and just then the waitress carried over their food. She fondly looked down at Alex and waved a finger. “You’d better not be bothering this young lady, Alexander.”
“We’re just talking, Ma, no worries.”
"It's all right, ma'am. I walked over to him," Autumn told her with a smile. "If he was bothering me, I'd leave."
Alex laughed gently. “See?”
Ma nodded and trotted off.
“Well, dig in! Enjoy your free food.” Alex smiled at her.
"Thank you for the food," Autumn said as she drizzled syrup onto her French toast.
Alex smiled through a mouthful of pancake. Thankfully he swallowed before saying, “You’re very welcome!”
"So," Autumn started after swallowing a bite of food, "you said you sing. And your hands looked like you play guitar. Do you?"
“Yep. I do both.” He rubbed the tips of his fingers self-consciously; he didn’t know it was that bad…
"That's really cool. Are you any good?" Autumn asked. "Wait, sorry. Of course, you are. You said you were at a concert,"
“Yeah. There were a whole bunch of people there. My bandmates and I had a good time, the fans certainly did too. One girl-“ He cut off. “Sorry, I’m showing off.” He turned a faint red.
"No, no! You're fine," Autumn assured him with a laugh. "Please, continue."
He smiled a little. “This one little girl had a guitar that was almost like mine. She had a tee-shirt on and everything; it was so cute. She and her dad had backstage passes so I had lunch with them.”
"That's really cute. What band are you in?" Autumn asked, taking another bite of her French toast.
“It’s not really a band. I just hired people for my rythym sections.” He smiled nervously. “It’s basically just me, though.”
Autumn nodded slowly as she finished chewing, then swallowed before speaking.
"That sounds cool. Maybe I could hear you sometime?" she wondered.
“Sure. I’m more of a Rock artist, though, so…” He shrugged. “There are a lot of Rock fans, but if you’re not I understand.”
"I like all sorts of music. Rock is pretty good," Autumn said with a smile.
Alex perked up a little. “Cool! Then I guess I can sing one of my songs for you sometime.”
"That sounds great! Is there somewhere I should meet you?" Autumn asked, finishing up her food.
“You can meet me by my house. It’s the smaller one down the road and to the left.” He chuckled at how unclear his instructions were. “You… you’ll see it.”
"All right. When should I meet you, then?" Autumn wondered.
“Ah, whenever.” He shrugged. “I’ll be around for a while.” He smiled. “You’d be very welcome, just be sure to ring the doorbell first.”
"Cool. I'll try to stop by later, then," Autumn said, moving to stand. "I do have to go, though. Thanks for the company."
