M smiled like a smol child and hugged her back, as tight as he could muster.

She laughed into his shoulder, "Shouldn't you be working on getting us back to like..real life?"

"But then I'd sacrifice you back into the world of sick fucks and I don't know if I could do that or not! You deserve the best, especially considering so much more can happen. So, maybe." He tightened his grip a little. Perhaps this dimension wasn't as bad as he initially thought.

North pulled back a little, "You don't think I can handle real life.. Jesus M have you met me?!" She backed away from him a couple feet. "First you want me to leave, now you want me to stay! Make up your mind!"

M sighed. "Look, I don't know what to think! You haven't met and been in minds of criminals! They don't care who you are or how well you can handle real life! They'll do whatever they want! You have to realize that this is a perfect opportunity to get away from all of the crap humankind can have in store for a young adult such as yourself!"

"Ok, just because you're old as fuck doesn't mean i'm a baby! I can handle- I have handled everything that life has given me! Send me back by myself M. Give me some time and then if you want..come join me in the real world."

M frowned. "I'm not sending you back anywhere. What's wrong? Why are you suddenly jumping down my throat? Don't you understand that what you're going through is just the beginning? Neo, Xanthe and I–" He suddenly cut off and looked horrified.

Zackary laughed in his head. There you go, screwing yourself over again. Just let her go, and once life gives her a bite in the ass, she'll come crawling back. We in our day would never allow someone to talk to us like that.

North felt tears pour down her face, "I'm sorry, I just want a life but I don't want to leave you but I miss Tyler and..and.." She sank to the floor her body shaking with sobs.

M pushed Zackary's mocking laugh away and limped over quickly, and crouched down. He lifted her up in his arms with difficulty and wiped away her tears. "It's okay. It's okay," He crooned gently and leaned her into him. "It's okay. I- I'm sure I can talk to Neo and we can work something out. I might be able to convince him to bring Tyler here; unless you don't want me to," He said quickly.

North held on tightly to M, "Why can't I go back?" She asked quietly.

"Because it's for the best. Humans are terrible people." He looked down at her, and only his eyes conveyed his soul, how old it was, and how wise he was. He'd seen some sick shit (heh i couldn't think of anything better). "But if you really want to go back and leave me, then okay, I'll do it."

North buried her head in M's chest. "I'm sorry, I don't want to leave you, I can stay as long as it takes."

"Takes for what? Humankind to be decent? Honey, I've lived over 5,000 years and that hasn't happened. And I don't want you living as long as myself." He hugged her tighter. "I think you're safer here, but… if you want anything I swear I'll do it for you."

"I love you so much. I want to go back, but not without you." She told him.

"I– I know, and I love you too. But if you get tired of this old codger or something, just, y'know say the words." He laughed nervously as if expecting her to jump up and proclaim her independence from him.

"Never M, I wouldn't do that to you. Even if you annoy the hell out of me sometimes." She laughed.

He looked immensely relieved. "Yeah, right. Okay, c'mon this floor is hurting my back. Let's go walk around. I changed the scenery so it's a boardwalk."

North stood up and took M's hand. "Ok yeah let's go." She said smiling up at him.

He struggled up to his feet. "I didn't know about you, but I was feeling pretty beach-y this morning, so that's what I did." He grinned.

She laughed and walked with him to the front doors, gasping when they stepped outside. "This is amazing!" North exclaimed. "I've never actually seen the ocean before. Lived my whole life stuck in New York and part of Colorado from time to time."

M grinned. "I had a friend who could manipulate water. He always insisted on living near the ocean." He sighed gently and murmured, "Xanthe didn't appreciate it much, though."

"Did you grow up any one place?" She asked him.
