Grayson swam out from the rock, pretending to do laps. He heard his brother calling his name and swam to the shore. "Hey. What do you want?" Alto(his brother) grinned. "I knew i'd find you here. You can't just skip school dude." Grayson glanced back into the water. "I can do what I want."
Moxiey peeked out and saw the boy who must be Grayson's brother. Her heart hammered.
Alto frowned at Grayson. “What’re you looking at?”
Moxiey ducked back behind the rock, a quick flash of her hair was the only visible thing that either boy would've seen.
“Nothing. Just leave me alone will you?” Alto crossed his arms. “I’ll let it go this time but I’m supposed to be looking after you okay?” Grayson looked down at the ground. “Yeah, okay..”
Moxiey, unable to harness her curiosity, peeked out again, an inch or two further than last time.
Alto frowned and looked around Grayson. "Is there someone…"
Moxiey peered out slightly more, then saw Alto look in her direction and reeled backward, away from sight, hopefully in time.
Alto looked back at Grayson. "Oh, never mind. Well, have fun I guess. Remember, this is the only time." Grayson nodded and Alto walked away.
(Alto seems conveniently blind in this situation.)
Moxiey watched him walk away, but she waited for Grayson to come back to her, just to be sure she was safe.
Grayson stood there until he was sure Alto was gone then he walked back to Moxiey. "He almost saw you."
Moxiey felt her face get hot and she didn't meet his gaze. "I'm sorry," she whispered.
"It's fine, just..be more careful next time."
Moxiey felt ashamed. "Do you have to leave now?"
"I-I probably should..sorry." He said, regretfully.
Moxiey's shoulder's noticeably dropped. "Tomorrow?" she asked, her throat closing around the word.
"Maybe. Hey don't be sad, it's okay. It's fine." He hugged her softly.
Moxiey's eyes widened, but she returned the hug with a realization. I'm falling in love with a human. She buried her face into his neck, somewhat affectionately.
"Promise me you won't go looking for me or anything if i'm not back tomorrow. Also promise me you won't jump at the first signs of humans, it might not be me."
"I promise," she murmured. And she meant it.
He squeezed her tightly once more before he pulled away and went back to the rock, giving her one more half smile before he left.
Moxiey watched him leave. She sadly dove back into the sea, longing only to be with him again.
(Aaaaaand timeskip?)
