She chuckled softly. "I'm flattered, my lord, I really am. Most people just forget about me for my siblings." She was used to it, the polite introductions and small talk before abandoning her for the sibling of their choice. It was disappointing but she'd just shrug it off. "As for the dance, I'd be honored."
Dorian’s smile grew a fraction as he held out his hand for her to take, “That’s the best news I’ve heard all evening.” He was being completely honest there. He grew bored of his fathers parties too quickly and him and his sisters generally sneak out half way through.
(Sorry! Had to shower)
She took it gracefully, her touch almost nervous. Since she was never asked to dance as much as her other siblings, she was out of practice and a little rusty. She flashed a quick smile before targeting her gaze away from his eyes. "I'm sure that's not true."
(All good)
Dorian rolled his eyes a little with a slight laugh, “No really, Lady. Normally my sisters and I would be no where’s to be no where to be found. You’ve just made my evening.” He sent her a wink before walking her to the dance floor where he then placed a hand on her waist and kept the other in her hand.
(How to convince my mother to let me stay home because I'm sick but well enough to go to school but I don't want to: Act sicker than you are and go slow until it's only the two of you at home and it's either she drives you or you stay home. More often than not, she'll just give up and let you stay. I'm a terrible person 😂)
She blushed bright pink but tried to ignore it as she placed her other hand on his shoulder, willing herself to relax. It had been a very long while since she had ballroom danced but she'd gone through the exact same training her sisters had, she'd get the hang of it.
(I think I scared her away whoops!)
(Bahaha, I do the same thing, lmao don't worry. Also sorry if I'm slow today, I have a drama excursion)
The music from the band started to play softly through the room, filling every crevice that might have once been quiet. Dorian started to lead them through the dance, one he'd done a thousand times over and was now ingrained in his memory. He'd always thought it was useless until now.
As the music started, so did the whispers. She could practically feel them sweep through the room and the small amount of confidence she'd built crumbled. She dropped her gaze from his and her smile faded slightly. Of course, people were talking about her, no one ever saw her and now she was dancing with the Earl's son. She tried to shake it off but the sound seemed to stick to her skin.
Dorian had a knack for reading people most of the time, and it was a skill he valued in himself. His head tilted to the side slightly as he spun her around once, then twice, then pulled her to his body again, "If you're uncomfortable we can stop," he muttered, "But you're doing fantastic, everyone in here is just a bunch of pigs if you ask me."
She giggled softly, her smile returning for a second. "I think they're all just jealous that you saw me before them." Which I still find surprising seeing as I pretty much blend in with the wall.
Dorian chuckled quietly, "Of course. Who wouldn't be jealous when you saw someone dancing with beautiful woman?" He grinned cheekily, "I would be, but luckily it was me who had the honor to dance with you."
She blushed bright red, her eyes refusing to meet his. "That's not true. I think they're jealous that a girl they've never seen before-" Even though she's always been there… "-managed to catch the eye of the famous Utarian's son. Or at least one of them."
"Famous? I wouldn't say I'm famous," Dorian shrugging a shoulder slightly, his eyes never leaving the girl in front of him, "Let's just say it's both of us, how about that? Then we won't spend the evening arguing about this."
"Certainly better known than me." She forced her eyes to met his and her heart nearly stopped. Oh be still my heart, his eyes are beautiful. She could stare into them forever if he'd let her.
Dorian smiled, “Maybe if you didn’t hide in corners at every party you’d be as well known as I am,” The music of the song finished and Dorian bowed low, “Care for a walk?”
She rolled her eyes with a smile and curtsied in return. "A walk sounds lovely. It'd be great to get to know you a little better."
“Wonderful.” Taking her hand gently, Dorian led her out of the ballroom and into the majors gardens. Candles lit up the gravel pathways and different coloured flowers lines each pathway. White roses were always his favourite.
She took a deep breath, just smelling the flowers as they walked. "It's so nice out here. When I'm at home I spend all my free time out in the gardens."
Dorian couldn’t hide his smile, “There’s something be we have in common. I spend most of my time out here, too. Or riding.”
A small smile fluttered across her lips. "You should smile more often, it makes your entire face light up." She couldn't help it, she was a writer, noticing these things was what she did.
He went a light shade of pink at the compliment. In all honesty he wasn’t really used to them, “Ah, thank-you. When you’re with someone who’s good company it’s hard not to smile for them.”
"Ooo, you blush easily. That's good to know for future reference." She bit back her giggle. "I'm just now realizing I never caught your name."
Dorian rubbed at the back of his neck as he looked to the ground to stop her from noticing it anymore, “It’s Dorian, Lady. And yours might be? I feel like a fool for not asking.”
She just laughed, surprised she hadn't asked earlier. "Fiona. It's a pleasure to meet you."
“Please, the pleasure is all mine, Fiona,” Dorian placed a hand over his heart before he lowered it, “Care to tell me what you do for fun?”
