Nich shrugged. "Possibly? I didn't ever read through it. Not my business." He replied. "It would make sense, though. Especially if it's a complicated recipe, she'd want it written down to make sure she does it the same every time right?" Finn headed over to look through the book as well.
"It would make sense yes," Eclipsa replied as she began to look through Rowan's book finding it full of spell and potion possibilities. Her eyebrow raised slightly seeing just how much this one girl had researched and tested but continued to look nonetheless. She stopped on one page and pointed at it, "Here it is! We need honey; ginseng roots; echinacea roots, leaves, and stem; marigold; lavender; and… Lilacs? Oh and boiling water stat!"
"Uh… I-I don't know where to get all of that, but I can get on the water." Nich replied, getting some water in a pot and starting to boil it. He didn't have much in the way of powers, but he could make small flames, which was enough to boil water easily enough.
"Should I run to the market to get the ingredients?" Finn asked, ready to run off and do whatever was helpful.
"Yes and yes," Eclipsa told both of the boys as she began to read through the instructions on how to brew the potion. She would have to wait until the water was at a steady boil and the herbs were back to begin the potion. As Eclipsa read she took note of all the scratch marks and footnotes that Rowan must have added after the initial potion. Though the amount of each this recipe had was concerning.
"Right! I'll be right back!" Finn ran out, presumably to go fetch ingredients from the market. Nich stayed focused on the water to get it to a good rolling boil. He didn't use his flames very much, so he had to stay pretty focused for it to work. "How much water do you think you'll need for the potion?" He asked Eclipsa.
"At most a liter, but I will need at least five-hundred milliliters," Eclipsa told Nich as she glanced up at him. She let out a long sigh as she looked back at Rowan monitoring the girls condition, "You really don't know anything else about her condition?"
"Right…" Nich poured out a bit of the water and then continued boiling it. He looked over his shoulder at the question. "Not much, no. I've only known her a couple weeks, and she seems reserved about talking about it. The best I can tell you is that it seems like she's physically able to talk, it's just extremely painful for her. Like she had to say a few spells real quiet, and one louder for the flare, and she was bleeding."
"She was able to talk?" Eclipsa glanced at him surprised as she glanced at the door hoping Finn would get back soon. She pulled out an empty bottle from Rowan's bag looking inside to find it without rements. Maybe if Eclipsa continued to look she would be able to find a drop fo the throat potion to compare to the potion Eclipsa was to brew. She eventually continued to talk, "She could talk but it hurt… That narrows it down to either a spell gone arry, or. Or a curse either completed or unfinished."
"Yeah, she could. A curse would make sense, but I don't know her well enough to know who may have placed it on her." Nich sighed softly, the water finally boiling. A few minutes later, Finn burst in with bags full of ingredients. "I-I didn't know how much you needed, so I got a lot!" He announced, gasping for breath as he rushed the ingredients over to Eclipsa.
"Perfect!" Eclipsa replied as she quickly got to following Rowan's instructions to make the potion. Her mind was troubled with thoughts about who could have put a curse on someone who appeared to look like a sweet girl. She went through the motions as fast as she could watching as the boiling water slowly turned to a glowing violet liquid. At that point, she filled up a bottle and then opened up Rowan's mouth to pour the liquid in watching as the effect of the potion was immediate. Eclipsa let out a sigh, "That seems to have taken care of it. Thank you Finn. Thank you Nich."
Finn and Nich watched with bated breath as Eclipsa poured the potion into Rowan's mouth, both relieved when it seemed to work. Nich sighed and sat down, especially glad that Rowan was going to be okay. Not that Finn didn't care, of course, but Nich knew her better.
"No problem… when do you think she'll be able to wake up?" Nich asked, clearly still anxious for her condition.
"I, I don't know," Eclispa replied watching as Rowan didn't wake up soon after. She was attempting to figure out what exactly caused the girl to collapse and still had no answers at the moment. Rowan was now peacefully sleeping on the cot curling up on herself in a slow manner indicating she was going to be asleep for a while. Eclipsa glanced back at Nich, "I'm not convinced that her condition was the direct cause of her collapse."
"You think… she was attacked?" Nich asked worriedly, heading over to stand at Rowan's side. "Who would do such a thing? Rowan hasn't done anything!" He insisted, although he had no way of knowing whether or not Rowan had actually done anything since he hadn't known her very long. "Is there anything we can do?" He asked.
Eclipsa felt a smile tug on her face seeing Nich's concern about Rowan. She would have to keep an eye on how Nich's and the guild's newest member's relationship progressed. She was quick to reassure Nich, "No, I don't think she was attacked. From what Finn told me she collapsed after having a coughing fit a few feet outside of the guild hall. If she was attacked, it would have had to happened during a rare moment when no one was entering or exiting the guild."
"Oh… what do you think caused her to collapse, then?" Nich asked worriedly. He tapped one 'foot' on the ground, clearly anxious and not liking Rowan still being asleep despite giving her the potion. He glanced over at Finn as though he would have some answers, but Finn simply shrugged in response. "I hope she wakes up soon… we can ask her what happened."
"I have no idea," Eclipsa replied just as Rowan let out a soft almost indistinguishable sound in her sleep as her eyes fluttered open. Rowan had to take a second to attempt to put together what had happened as the last thing she remembered was giving Nich the healing potion, and now she was laying in a bed. She had no idea where, but given she spotted Nich and a few other people she recognized from a few brief moments around the guild. Eclipsa let out a hum as she stepped towards Rowan, who was attempting to get up from lying down, "I supposed she'll wake up now. How do you feel?"
Tired, Rowan lifted one of her hands to write as she got herself into a partially sitting, partially lying position, What happened?
"Rowan!" Nich's ears pricked up when he saw Rowan waking up and he moved closer, clearly still worried, but relieved that she was awake at least. "'What happened?' You tell us, we don't know." He replied. He still looked very jittery and anxious, and he wasn't sure what to do with himself.
Finn, more stable and less emotionally involved than Nich, took over the talking. "Well, I can tell you how you got here, but I don't know exactly what happened to you. When I was leaving the tavern, I saw you having a coughing fit or something in the middle of the road. I managed to get you off to the side so you wouldn't get trampled or anything, but then you passed out, and Eclipsa helped me carry you here. We went over to wake Nich up soon after to see if he had any idea what might've happened."
Oh, Rowan back as Finn described what occurred to lead her to where she was now. Eclipsa at this point had decided to take a step back and deal with a final check-up of sorts on Rowan as the younger hopefully explained what happened. Rowan was attempting to find a way to word why she had passed out without making Nich or anyone else feel guilty or concerned. She eventually settled on one and wrote it out to the three, I guess I pushed myself a little too far making your healing potions last night and passed out from exhaustion. It's no big deal honestly.
Nich whined softly anyway, clearly still concerned as he turned his ears back. "Rowan, your potions are still really important, though… you can't neglect yourself for my sake. I've been through worse; I'll live. It's just some cuts!" He insisted, gesturing with his hands for emphasis, but wincing from the sudden movement. "We managed to make some of the potion to help you wake up, but you gotta take care of yourself, Rowan… I don't want anything to happen to you."
Rowan flinched as Nich began to raise his voice and she shrunk in on herself. She couldn't meet Nich's eyes as the guilt rushed through her for making Nich feel this way. She had only trying to be helpful and she had planned to make more of her potion after she had bought the ingredients post meeting with Nich, but she never got the chance to. She wrote out in the air just one word, Sorry.
Nich felt a pang of guilt as well and winced, floundering for the right thing to do to fix the situation. "No, no, don't be sorry! I-I really do appreciate you making the potions for me, I just want to make sure you're okay too, you know? I don't want you to feel like you should neglect yourself for my sake. You're really important and it's important to me for you to be okay and not hurting."
(Rowan at being told not to put other people first: shocked pikachu face)
Rowan's hand hovered in the hair as her cheeks heated up ever so slightly. She had never heard anyone tell her that she was important and her being okay was important to them. It honestly put her into a slight state of shock and she couldn't think of a response. Eventually, with a slightly tembling hand, Rowan wrote out, Okay. I'll try not to do it again. So you don't have to worry alright?
(Oop)
Nich smiled weakly, his ears still drooping. He was honestly still pretty tired, moreso now that he'd added worry to his slew of emotions. "Sounds good, Rowan… I'll try and learn how to make the potion in case of an emergency. I'm not great at alchemy, but I'll try my best." He yawned and scratched at his ears, feeling the adrenaline drain out of his blood and leave him empty of energy again. "Are you feelin' alright now?"
You don't need to learn how to make the potion for me, Rowan wrote out watching Nich slowly grow more and more tired. She shifted on the cot in a bid to actually get out of the bed, but made it appear as if she was making room for Nich. She patted the cot with one hand as she wrote with the other, Right now, you need to get some sleep. You look exhausted.
