My face grew red as Marina moved so she was practically on top of me. I let myself get lost in reading again, trying to douse the color off my cheeks.

Strangely, it was the sensation of a soft breath fanning across my neck that brought me back to my senses. My head jerked upwards, whipping around to face Mercutio as total mortification flashed briefly over my features. But the moment I'd moved far back enough to take note of how red his face was, a smug grin overtook my lips. "Did I win so soon?"

“Oh fuck off, you wish, Pazza.” I hissed back, turning my head away. “It’s not my fault it’s way too hot in here.” He complained, trying to calm himself.

I arched an eyebrow, barely withholding my laughter. "Look at me, Mercutio, and stop bullshitting your way out of such a quick loss."

“I’m not bullshitting! I have no idea what you’re talking about.” I argued back defiantly. “I don’t like you or anyone enough to fluster me.”

"Keep your voice down, idiot," I muttered, despite the fact that no one seemed to be paying us any attention. "And your blush begs to differ."

“It’s just hot in here.” I repeated, resting my head on the desk.

"You're a liar," I told him bluntly, bumping our knees together a second time to gage his reaction.

I felt my face blossom into a darker red as soon as her leg bumped into mine again. Hell, I knew she was doing it too tease me too. But I don’t know, I thought I had stronger willpower than this!

"Your blush just darkened," I pointed out, making sure to keep my voice lowered. "Don't lie to me, Mercutio."

“If I tell the truth we could die.” I hissed back, refusing to look up from where I was hiding my face in my arms.

I blinked, taken aback. Does he mean what I hope think he means…?

"We could die for playing this little game," I said finally, "But this isn't the place to have this conversation. Skip third period with me?"

“Fine.” I sighed, knowing I didn’t have much of a choice at this point.

Marina's POV

"Great…." I trailed off, unsure what else to say. "What's my prize?"

Juliet's POV

Romeo still hadn't shown up to class, and I was beginning to grow anxious. Had something happened? Was he hurt?

Mercutio’s POV

“Your prize is talking me into dressing like a dork for a day.” I grumbled, still hiding my face.

Romeo’s POV

I rushed into class late, having jammed a gift for Juliet in my locker. I muttered some apologies to the teacher before sliding into the seat next to Juliet, panting from running had a block.

Marina's POV

"Ha," I muttered, "Hilarious. You're going to have to do better than that."

Juliet's POV

I struggled to keep my face from lighting up from the moment I saw Romeo, hurrying into class nearly forty minutes late. "Where have you been?" I whispered thorugh the side of my mouth.

Mercutio’s POV

“Being in debt to you is the worst.” I grumbled, but otherwise had no complaints about the situation.

Romeo’s POV

“I was on my way to school, but I saw a stuffed animal I knew you’d love. I went in to get it for you, but I didn’t bring my wallet to school today so I had to bargain with the lady. Good news, it’s in my locker and I now know how to use a drill gun.” I smiled, out of breath.

Marina's POV

I chuckled without bothering to hide my amusement.

Juliet's POV

I nearly burst out laughing. Warmth spread through my chest, and though I hid a smile behind my hand, I tilted my hed at an angle so that Romeo could see it.

Romeo’s POV

I poorly suppressed my own smile. “How was class without me? Productive?”

“Hilarious..” I muttered, glancing anxiously around to make sure no one was watching. “Skip next period with me? I want to talk to you about.. him.”

Marina’s POV

I leaned against the exterior wall of the school, sighing softly as I waited for Mercutio to join me.

Romeo’s POV

I nodded. “Of course. I’m always here for you.” I whispered back.

Mercutio’s POV

I dragged my feet the whole way outside, eventually dragging myself over to Marina as I saw her.

Juliet's POV

I gave him a small, relieved smile in response.

Marina's POV

"Good, you actually showed up.." I muttered, pushing myself off the wall. "Now come on, let's go."

Romeo’s POV

“Hang in there. Class ends soon.” I whispered reassuringly.

Mercutio’s POV

“Where are you taking me?” I closed the distance between us, strolling over to her side.

Juliet’s POV

I spent the rest of the period staring at the clock and rapping my fingers impatiently against the desk.

Marina’s POV

“Record shop,” I said shortly, “So no one sees.”
