“Just a creative writing thing,” Alexander said. “It’s a short story. Mine is about this dude who realizes his apartment is haunted and befriends the ghost.”
“Just a creative writing thing,” Alexander said. “It’s a short story. Mine is about this dude who realizes his apartment is haunted and befriends the ghost.”
Miguel nodded, "Oh that sounds cool. How much do you have done so far? Or did you just get it today?" He glanced at his phone again, checking the time, ten minutes till class. The time had passed quickly, more quick than Miguel liked.
“Almost, do you want to read it so far?” he replied, holding out the notebook to Miguel. “It’s only my first draft and I haven’t proofed it or anything yet,” he added by way of explanation, hoping his friend didn’t think it was too bad.
“Sure!” Miguel took the notebook and slowly reading through it. He smiled, “Its really good so far! You’re doing a great job!”
Alexander beamed. “Really? Thanks!” He personally thought that it wasn’t that good, even though he’d put a lot of thought into it but he didn’t want to admit that. “I wasn’t sure about the scene where the dude first meets the ghost,” he said instead.
“No, no I think it’s great! You’ll get a good grade for sure.” Miguel encouraged, a smile still on his face. Once more he looked at his phone, then sighed and stood up, slipping it back into his pocket. “I should get going, I’ll see you later.”
"See you!" Alexander called, clearly in a good mood. He smiled at his friend again before going back to his story.
(should we just time skip to the party?)
(Yeah)
Miguel was both excited and nervous for the party that was soon to start at Jared’s. He stood outside his dorm room door, waiting for Alexander. He tugged on the sleeves of his gray jacket that he put on over his shirt.
Alexander glanced in the mirror before heading out. He’s changed into slightly less preppy outfit of a pastel blue t-shirt and jeans rolled up at the ankles with his favorite white chunky sneakers. His hair was as much of a mess as ever, but he elected to ignore that. Messy could be cool.
He headed out of his dorm and towards Miguel’s with a bit of excitement, still in a good mood. He grinned when he saw his friend. “Hey Miguel.”
Miguel smiled back at him, wiping away his nerves by seeing Alexander, “Hey Alexander. Um are we ready to go then?” He asked, glancing down the hallway towards the stair leading down.
“Yep!” he said, heading towards the stairs to Jared’s place. “Have you been to one of Jared’s parties before?” Alexander couldn’t remember if Miguel had come the last time or not, probably because he’d been too out of it to notice.
Miguel shook his head, "No, I don't usually go to parties…or any type of social event unless you invite me to come with you." He said, "So what are Jared's parties like anyways?"
(I'm thinking they should do some like drunk party games and stuff, like spin the bottle, seven minutes in heaven or truth or dare. Cliche but it works ya know?)
“Tamer than some,” Alexander answered vaguely. “But more often than not we still get drunk…and occasionally totally plastered. But it’s fun! Jared sometimes plays those dumb party games like truth or dare and spin the bottle, though, so be warned.” He laughed. “Looks like we’re here.” He opened the door to loud (but not booming) music and several people already inside.
(ooh yeah that works for me)
Miguel didn't reply, he just thought to himself how he would like the party. He honestly hoped he did, parties weren't usually his type of thing. Miguel was surprised by the loud music and people dancing inside, How does the college allow this? He wondered to himself, looking around Jared's place.
“C’mon,” Alexander said with a small grin, walking inside. He lit up upon seeing Jared, who was wearing hipster glasses and a t-shirt under an unbuttoned flamingo shirt. He always had somewhat dorky outfits that he somehow managed to pull off.
“Yo Alexander!” he called.
“Hey Jared,” Alexander replied.
Miguel stood awkwardly next to Alexander as he walked forward and began talking to Jared, he still kept looking around the dorm, at the people, the food, pretty much everything. After a moment he turned back to look at Jared, "Hi, Jared." Miguel said with a small smile.
“Hey, Miguel,” Jared replied with a friendly grin. “Feel free to have some nachos or pizza or a drink. We’re going to be playing truth or dare and spin the bottle in a few minutes.”
Alexander smirked at that, glancing at Miguel.
"Okay, thanks!" Miguel said, keeping the smile on his face. But he couldn't to think about the games, I wonder how this night will go…
Alexander’s stomach grumbled. “I’m hungry, I’m gonna go get some pizza, wanna come with?” he offered Miguel, eyeing the food table.
Miguel turned to look at Alexander, “Yeah sure! I’m pretty hungry myself.” He glanced at the food table, which was covered in boxes of pizza, pop, alcohol, and a couple cookie platters.
Alexander grabbed a slice of pepperoni pizza and bit into it before getting a beer. He smiled at Miguel, glad it was good pizza.
Miguel smiled back at Alexander and grabbed a piece of pizza himself. He stayed away from the beer though.
Alexander finished his slice of pizza quickly. Before he could do much else, Jared spoke up.
“Hey everyone, we’re going to be playing spin the bottle if you want to sit in a circle,” he announced.
Alexander looked at Miguel with a shrug. “I’m gonna play, because why not?”
Miguel was slower with eating his pizza and when Jared announced the game he still had a couple bites left. He thought for a moment as Alexander said he was going to play, “I’ll play too. Could be fun…”. He said.
