hey i got an idea
i saw the username "bookslosttothesea" and a thread about corrupt governments and decided to combine the two
what if a corrupt government made an executive decision to toss all books into the sea because we had devices and technology and all the books had already been uploaded to the cloud so there was no reason to keep any books in physical format?
or, because of some random event that happened, books literally got lost to the sea (perhaps a tsunami?)?

@Simon-Says

The one where the government got rid of the books, maybe? Idk, I feel like there would be a secret revolutionary book club and that… seems like something I would do.

@saor_illust school

Oooo sounds interesting!

So the government, the corrupt government decides that they'd make more money off of selling eBooks and stuff like that and especially so by getting rid of print books, so the first steps they took were to back up the entirety of all the print books to an online database and then banned all books printed physically and went around to all the homes and collected the books, throwing them into the sea later. One of the only reasons people didn't go to the ocean and find the books was because the books were gathered into a bunch of random bags, loaded with rocks just for safety and dumped in completely random parts of the ocean. [Insert the rest of the plot that we can develop later if you decide to join]

Name: Caelia (pronounced Celia, but fancy spelling) Hallow
Age: 17
Gender: Demigirl but uses she/her pronouns
Sexuality: Pansexual
Occupation: I mean… USED to work at a book shop
For or against the new ruling?: HELLA AGAINST
Appearance: Piercing, arctic blue eyes that look like they could see your soul and don't approve and short, curly ginger hair (she's a Scottish lass) in a bob cut. She has pale, very freckly skin (she's a Scottish lass). She's slightly below average height, about 5'3" ish, and delicate looking. She looks deceivingly innocent, especially when she widens her eyes, and uses this to her advantage.

https://pin.it/62hqq4zf4zvd62 <- (just captures her spirit perfectly. Her "I have an idea" face, also her "you're being an idiot and I love it" face, also her "I have you wrapped around my finger, weak mortal" face.)
https://pin.it/zqniwcsmvwe3vg <- (clothing style)
Personality: A smartass in every sense of the word. She knows things you don't, and she's well aware of it. It's not that she thinks she's superior, she just recognizes her skills and takes advantage of them. She's introverted in the sense that she doesn't like spending the majority of her time around people, but she's definitely not shy.
Other: sorry this took me so long lol, I was at rehearsal. Let me know if I need to change anything (and how old she should be!)

@saor_illust school

(That's fine! So was I, actually.)

And as for age range, how about anywhere from 7-20? I'll try to get my character up as soon as possible, but it's getting late where I am so, I might have to do it tomorrow.

name - kiara leila parker
age - 17
gender - female
sexuality - bi
occupation (optional) - has a part-time job at a coffee shop, and is currently attending her local high school
for or against the new ruling? strangely enough, for.
appearance - https://pin.it/nq3yv7l4rzhkle
personality - kiara, like caelia does enjoy reading in her spare time as well, but she also is a major nature and wildlife animal advocate. her view on the new ruling is that it's actually better than burning the books, and we no longer will need trees for printing of books. she's quite nice, though one of her numerous flaws is that if she strongly supports an opinion, or believes (in) something strongly, she will stubbornly hold her position if faced against one with a differing opinion. she could argue for hours, since she learned how to argue… decently with her numerous arguments with her older (and annoying, as she calls him) brother, evan (looks: https://pin.it/yhucuhs5alrrma).
other - none

"More protests of the new ruling recently passed by the President," the news channel on the television informs her.
"Ugh, really? Don't these people know what's good for them? What's good for the Earth?" Kiara groaned, shaking her head in disgust. Unlike the majority of the population on Earth, she actually agreed with the new ruling. Not necessarily for the reasons the government passed it, but for environmental reasons. Besides, she told herself. Printing books means more trees get cut down. The more trees get cut down, the more climate change will impact Earth. They had finally managed to get enough oxygen in the air and pause climate change, turning around the end of the Earth. But now… the people were slowly reverting back to their old ways, and it disgusted her. How could people act so carelessly?

@Simon-Says

(Holy hera, that was fast!)
Caelia was currently protesting the new law. Holding a sign the read, "Save the Books," (it was a last-minute protest; there hadn't been time to come up with something more clever) she stood amongst a fairly large crowd of people. Her best friend and coworker stood beside her. Aleah wasn't holding a sign, but she was shouting out various arguments that were all variations of "save the books." Bookshops everywhere would be ruined. All the local businesses the she had supported for so many years, and was now working at, would be gone. Forever. She would lose her job and way of paying for college, and end up working at Starbucks. A Starbucks with no one reading while drinking coffee. The very thought disgusted her and made her want to cry.

@saor_illust school

(Aha not really)
"Thousands of people gather, with their main point being 'Save the Books,' and multiple squadrons of officers have been dispatched to keep the crowd under control," the speaker on the television says. She has dark inky black hair and glasses, and Kiara thought she detected the slightest hint of agreement with the new law. Kiara managed a tiny smile at the thought of another supporter for the cause. People just didn't understand. This new law was a good thing. Besides that, there was a reason her first and middle names were Kiara Leila. Her mother had told her it meant bright night. Her own personal interpretation of this was that she was like a bright light, a ray of sunshine in the darkest times. Sometimes… she missed her mother. It was nice having someone to guide her, to tell her what to do when she was lost, clueless. But now it was just her. Just her and her brother. Her thoughts were broken by her brother shouting, "Come on, slowpoke! You're gonna be late to school!" he teased, racing by her. Of course, Kiara knew she wouldn't be late for school. After all, I'm not the one who has zero period this semester, she thought to herself, smirking slightly.

@Simon-Says

Caelia snapped out of her thoughts when Aleah, the more conscious one, nudged her hard in the ribs. "Ow, you bitch," Caelia whined. Aleah rolled her eyes. "School. Remember school? The place where you can unapologetically be a smartass and people love you for it?" Caelia nodded, and they started walking.
"Just to be clear: teachers love my smartassery. There is still not a single living teenager who finds my being a smartass attractive." Aleah sighed as she slid into the driver's seat of her car, unlocking the door for Caelia, who promptly climbed in.
"Caelia, I'm your best friend. Remember? My name's Aleah? Do we really need to redo freshman year?" Caelia shook her head. "We established years ago that you are devil spawn. Demons aren't living"
(I had to break it into paragraphs, sorry, it was bothering me lmao)

@saor_illust school

(Lol it's fine)
"Hah, yeah right! Says the one who actually has zero period this semester!" Kiara yelled after her brother, but she grabbed the remote beside her to flick off the television and grabbed her backpack, jumping up to follow her brother out the door. She couldn't wait to rant to her best friend, Sam about the latest news on television. It's not like she liked to rant, but rather she needed to rant. Her brother wouldn't hear it though, so the only person who would listen to her rants was Sam. He was a nice kid. Played cello in a youth symphony organization, and he was always willing to help her out with schoolwork.

@Simon-Says

Aleah pulled up to the school and parked her car before reaching over to punch Caelia in the arm. "See, this is why you don't have more friends." Caelia rolled her eyes. "Who needs more friends when I've finally got a mythology class? Oh, and you, I guess," she teased. She turned and walked into the school, waving to Aleah. Like a smart person, Aleah had opted to take a regular set of classes. Like a technically smarter, but generally quite stupid person, Caelia had signed up for 2 extra classes before and after school. Now, she could take the classes she really wanted: literature. She sat down in the cafeteria and scrolled through random pictures on her phone while waiting for it to be a respectable time to go to class.
