Rowan shrugged. "I dunno… I never really thought about it all that much. I did like science in high school."
Rowan shrugged. "I dunno… I never really thought about it all that much. I did like science in high school."
Eve looked interested. "Chemistry? Biology? Physics…?" she asked, trailing off her question as she glanced briefly over at him.
"Ah, all of them… I did really like chemistry and biology, though. Physics was a little more difficult." He laughed softly. "It was just really nice to have a hands-on class like that. I think I was pretty decent at it, but I dunno."
"Mmm. I loathed physics. But I think it was only because of the professor who taught it," Eve remarked. "He was horrible."
"Yeah, it sucks when your teachers suck… my teacher was pretty good, I think. She liked me a lot." Rowan smiled fondly and leaned his head back against the seat. "Chemistry was probably my favorite overall. I really liked the labs."
"Labs were fun," Eve agreed, pulling into a parking spot.
Rowan got out of the car, wincing when he bumped his wrist. "I dunno how I could really make much of a career out of that, though."
"I'm sure there would be something," Eve encouraged. "Let's get inside."
"Yeah, alright… I don't think it would ever happen, though. I'm a dancer now." Rowan smiled weakly and headed inside.
"Yes, but you're not limited to just that," she countered, unlocking the door and opening it for him.
Rowan shrugged and thanked her softly as he headed inside. "I dunno… it's probably a bit late for that now. And my parents wouldn't be happy. They would probably cut me off entirely."
"Well, you're already moved out. How much more control could they possibly have?" Eve questioned.
"Ah… more than you would think." Rowan laughed weakly and flushed a bit in embarrassment. "School, competitions, housing… they pay for most of my accommodations."
Eve frowned. "Do you have a job?" she asked, locking the door after they were both inside.
Rowan shook his head. "No, they don't want me to get one. They want me to spend pretty much all of my time practicing and stuff. I know they just want to have control over like… every aspect of my life, but you know…"
Eve nodded. "I know what that's like… but would they know if you got a job? How do they monitor you now that you're on your own?"
"I-I dunno, I just… they would probably find out somehow, and I don't want to deal with that. I'm sure they'll ease up eventually, right?"
"Right," Eve agreed. "Just give it time."
"Yeah… I mean, I can't be a dancer forever, right? I'll have to do something else eventually." Rowan sighed.
"Exactly," Eve assured him, hoping to be comforting.
"I just don't want to deal with them… they're terrifying when they're angry, you know?"
"Yeah," she agreed, heading to the kitchen. "I get that."
Rowan followed her, looking for the brace for his wrist. "And I don't really know anything else… I'm their only kid. They expect a lot from me."
"Hmm," Eve hummed. "I understand that too. It's a bit different from me, though. I have a sister."
"You do? What's she like?" Rowan asked, glad to try and change the subject a bit.
