Casey kept her eyes trained on Warner as he spoke. "There was a secret attack we made on the Nebtali a few months ago," Warner said, finally settling his gaze on Casey. "We were fairly successful in harming their troops, so that should lessen the resistance you face," Warner adjusted his collar and smoothed out his tie. "If you obtain the full amount of the Proelium and deliver it to a representative from the military, I will transfer you the money," he said, meeting Casey's steely gaze.
"Do I have your word?" Casey asked. Her fingers tapped lazily against her knee, one after the other.
"You have my word," Warner said. "I promise you, if you get to the Nebtali, get back all of the Proelium, make it back alive, and deliver the Proelium to us, the money is yours."
"Very well," Casey said after a moment, her face spreading into a small, cold grin. She stood up. Warner stood up as well.
"I have more information about the Nebtali I think you should look at," Warner reached into the inside pocket of his suit and pulled out a flash drive.
"Marvelous," Casey said. She crossed the area between the chairs to take the flash drive. Warner's face contorted into a smile as she reached up and grabbed it from his hand.
At the same moment the flash drive was in her grasp, Warner grabbed Casey's wrist and twisted it behind her, spinning her around. In one hand he held her wrist, with the other he held his arm over her chest. His brute pulled a gun off his hip and aimed it at her head. Casey's easy, dangerous smile never faltered. She watched Luca and Cameron leap towards her, but she held two fingers up, stopping them. "You really thought it would be that easy, Cortel? You really think I'd let you walk out of here? That's not even the real flash drive." He laughed a cruel, barking laugh. "To think it was that easy to get the famous Casey Cortel. You really are nothing more than a child."
Still, Casey only smiled. "You're new here so may I teach you a lesson, Micheal? Being a politician I thought you would know this already, but apparently not. In this world full of shady deals and stolen money. There is one thing that protects you. Trust. Trust between people is what keeps you safe. Value loyalty above all else Micheal. Or else you might find yourself getting hurt."
