“I can hold her,” Sebastian offered quickly, trying to ease the amount of stress on Devon. He held out his arms, eyes looking up at her in askance.
“I can hold her,” Sebastian offered quickly, trying to ease the amount of stress on Devon. He held out his arms, eyes looking up at her in askance.
Devon glanced up at him, unable to hide the relieved look in her eyes. “Would you? That would help a lot. Thank you.”
“No problem,” Sebastian told her awkwardly, gently extracting Layla from her mother’s arms. He bounced the baby up and down on his knee, not bothering to finish off his lunch.
Devon smiled and leaned back in her seat as she started to eat her food. She was glad she had decided to bring Layla, since she was sure that this was a side of Sebastian that she wouldn’t have seen otherwise. She was also a great icebreaker.
The girl was full, now, and getting sleepy. She blinked a few times at Sebastian, booping his nose.
Sebastian scrunched his nose up to make the little girl laugh, gently cupping the back of her head with his hand and leaning her back against his chest so she could sleep. He hummed quietly, smiling up at Devon.
Layla giggled before snuggling into him. He was warm, and she was full and tired, so it wasn’t long before she was asleep.
Devon glanced up when she was almost finished and smiled at the sight of her daughter sleeping on Sebastian. “Wow. You got her to sleep. Great job!” she said softly, so as to not wake up the sleeping toddler.
Sebastian suddenly realized how incredibly open he was being, and made an attempt to cover his light blush. Layla had caught him completely off guard, exposed him. “Thanks, I guess. I just sort of.. I don’t know. Is she an easy sleeper?”
“She can be. Especially when she’s just eaten,” Devon said as she finished her soup and looked up at him with a small smile. “But I’m surprised that she would have gone to sleep for you so quickly.”
Sebastian shrugged bashfully, appalled at how difficult it was getting for him to pull up his walls in front of the two girls. “Maybe it’s because I’m warm?” he suggested helplessly.
Devon’s smile softened a bit. She could tell he was trying to hide something, and she figured that it had to do with how much he enjoyed Layla. It was rather sweet, seeing him this way.
A lot of guys are like that, though. This doesn’t make him special.
It might not… But he seems to really like Layla, which is much better than what I expected he would think.
“Could be. Either that, or she just really likes you.”
That would be too much to hope for….. Sebastian opened his mouth to reply, but nothing came out. He gave up, looking down at the sleeping child on his lap and gently stroking her head. This was.. different. A change, all this warmth, being to express affection, even for something so small. But it was definitely a welcome change.
“I’m glad you two like each other,” Devon said softly, giving him a small smile. “I don’t… Um. We don’t get out much, so it’s nice to see that she likes someone other than me.”
Once again, Sebastian gave a slight shrug, at a loss for words. "I'm honoured to have your daughter like me," he told her, saying it like a joke, however much he meant it. That's a bit pathetic… are you really so desperate to be liked?
(“Honoured” [honored] would be another thing you use the British spelling for.)
Devon chuckled a bit. “Well, I’m glad you’re honored… If you’re ready, I’m done eating, so I can take her back whenever you want. But only if you want me to. I won’t force you to give me my daughter back until we really have to leave.”
(oh oof
idk
my keyboard autocorrects to it?)
Sebastian let out a quiet laugh, careful not to wake Layla. "Could I.. could I hold hr for just a bit longer? I'm sorry.. she's just so adorable." 'Adorable' was putting it mildly.
(Lol.
Also, happy Sebastian is so fricking cute, omw…)
“Of course you can. Honestly, it’s nice to not have her attached to me all the time,” Devon joked with a soft laugh.
(uwu I'm glad you think so, he's one of my favourite bois)
Sebastian pushed his blonde curls out of his forehead, his cheeks still a faint peachy hue. "I'd actually love to have someone attached to me all the time," he admitted quietly. "I know that it would be exhausting sometimes, but still.." It would mean I'm not alone.
(I’m dead. That’s it. RPs have been the death of me. Did you read the Piece By Piece RP?)
“It is nice, actually… She’s a really good kid, I got lucky having her as my first child,” Devon admitted, chewing on her lip as she looked at her daughter.
(yesss it's awesome! Yup, I can relate, they will definitely be the death of me)
"Yeah," he agreed, wincing slightly at how pretentious that sounded. It must be nice to have someone..
"She's a great kid."
(The Cash ship, though. Lol.)
Devon nodded slowly, giving him a small smile. “She is. I love her a lot… Do you, um, have a girlfriend or anything like that?”
And there it goes… There goes the peace and calm that was going on. Why in the world would you ask him that? That was such a stupid question. He’s probably going to just leave you, now. You’ll never see him again because you asked such an idiotic question.
(loll)
Sebastian shook his head, glancing away for a second as hot shame rose inside of him. Of course you don't have one, the mocking voice inside his head taunted, No one actually likes you. They can barely tolerate you, for god's sake.
"No, I've never had one, either. A bit pathetic, I know. What about you?" He remembered her saying how difficult it was to raise a child alone, but that didn't necessarily mean she wasn't with anyone.
Devon blushed as she shrugged. “I have had boyfriends before… I was with one guy throughout my last two years of high school, but that, um… That didn’t work out,” she said quietly. “We had… different ideas about our future.”
Last two years of high school.. around when she had Layla? Sebastian quickly cut the thought off, silently berating himself. "Oh," he said quietly, "I'm sorry."
“It’s fine. I’m okay, now. I’ve got Layla to keep me company, and I’ve got a job that pays well enough,” Devon said softly, almost as if she was trying to convince herself.
Sebastian recognized the slight disbelief behind her words all too well, and nodded, unsure what to say in response. "There's always a bright side, I guess…" He trailed off, knowing how stupid he sounded.
