Geneva slowly and cautiously began to make her way to the ballroom. She was very nervous, having no knowledge of how people would react. She stood on the ballroom steps above the crowd as she was announced, taking deep breaths.
Loa had been walking around, mingling with guests and talking with them, though most of it polite conversation. She looked up when Geneva was announced and smiled, watching as she descended the stairs. Loa backed out of a conversation with a small nodded and met her wife at the bottom, offering her her hand
Geneva nervously took Loa's hand. Her palms felt clammy but she didn't know if they really were. Her breath began to quicken as she felt hundreds of pairs of eyes on her, but she tried to push those thoughts away.
Loan laced their hands together and gently stroked the back of Geneva's with her thumb. "see? that wasn't so bad." She looked around at the guests, nodding to the one's closest to her before leading Geneva to the center of the ballroom, turning her so that he was facing her and gently started to sway with her to the music that started to play. "Love, you're doing great. Pay no mind to them." she reassured,
"They keep staring at me," Geneva said quietly. She tried to avoid stepping on her dress, as she wasn't used to long ball dresses like this. Her green eyes showed her nervousness.
She gently cupped her cheek and offered a smile "darling, who wouldn't?" she said with a tilt of her head. She shook her head "ignore them. In the long run, their stares don't matter." She started to hum softly as a song came on, a piano accompanied by a violin
"I'm not used to dancing either…" Geneva looked around. "We were only allowed to stand at the sidelines and watch." She caught the eye of her ex-girlfriend Adele, who was glaring at her.
The pang of guiltiness came back "her smile faltering. "well, now's a good time to learn, right?" She offered, though her previous enthusiasm was slowly ebbing away, especially when she caught the eye of Adele staring at them. Her heart sank and she looked away. She curtsied politely as the song ended and gently pulled away "I'll be in the garden if you need me, i just need some fresh air." she smiled softly, though it quickly faded as she walked off to the doorways leading to the garden
Wait, don't go, Geneva thought, but it was already too late. Loa had gone outside, leaving Geneva alone on the dance floor. She politely excused herself from the floor, walking over to the small throne erected for herself. She cautiously sat on it, still not sure of her new position.
Loa has sent her personal guard and most trusted friend to watch over the ballroom in her absence, reassuring him that she was fine and just need some space. Once she was alone she went to the garden’s center and parted the tendrils of an old willow tree. Sitting underneath it’s branches, Loa pulled the light from outside inside the willow tree, creating a glowing effect with in the branches. She smiled and started to sway to the distant music that could be heard
Geneva whispered something, and suddenly she could see Loa. She'd learnt a spell years ago so that she could look through plants, and it helped. She smiled, looking at her wife. She really did love Loa, but the whole becoming a princess thing was too much for her.
She started to dance around a bit, content with staying in the shelter of the willow tree without having others loom around her. They had called her a foolish Queen for not accepting any of the male suitors requests, had called her weak hearted and selfish for wanting to love of her choosing. she would never regret loving and marrying Geneva. She would spend ever moment showing both herself and to her subjects that this was the right choice.
Geneva's smile widened as she watched Loa dance through the flowers. She was reminded just why she had fallen in love with the Queen again, even if the act still scared her. Loa was beautiful.
After a while, Loa stepped out from the shelter of the tree, knowing she had to get back to the ball, despite her strong argument not to do so. She looked up when she saw Geneva standing near the door way and smiled softly as she reached her, gently taking her hand and pressing a kiss to the back of it. "Come join me, it much nicer out here than it is in there, I'm sure."
"Oh I would love to. Besides, I always feel at home in nature." She walked out into the garden, breathing in the smell of the plants and of the trees. "Ah, this is blissful."
Loa followed closely behind and nodded in agreement “it truly is, especially this time of year.” She smiled thoughtfully and looked around, her eyes always coming to rest at her wife In front of her.
Geneva spotted a particular plant in the distance, and her eyes lit up. She picked up the hem of her skirt and began to run over to it. "Why did you never tell me that you grew middlemist red?"
Loa tilted her head , her smile only growing as she watched Geneva run over to the plant. "To be honest I never knew we had any, must be a new addition to the garden this year." She explained, walking over to where she was and looking over the plant. She waved a hand, conjuring light around them as they looked over the plant, making sure it wasn't dying in any place
"You didn't know that you had them? Middlemist Red is the rarest flower in the world! It's so rare that I wouldn't even be able to create it from scratch! This is amazing!"
"Really? I wonder if the castle florist knew they had such a rarity among their stash of plants." she mused with a smile, glad that Geneva was enthusiastic about such a beautiful plant. "you're welcome to grow more from this plant if you'd like. I'm sure there are some places in the castle we could put some planters or something." She bent down and picked up a flower that had fallen off the plant, hoping to save it for her mosaics.
"Oh, I would have to study this for months before I could grow it myself," Geneva brushed off. Then she spotted another plant, running over to it. "Oh, blue orchids. These are my favourite."
She smiled softly and followed Geneva to the patch of orchids that they had in the center of the garden. "Really? these were my brother's favorite as well. He always took great care with the orchids, despite his very ,limited knowledge on planting. The florists would always try to kick him out of the garden's while they worked but he always managed to convince them he'd be careful."
"I've always loved the look of blue orchids," Geneva smiled. "They're such a calming colour to me. Blue is my favourite colour, though I'm always put into pink clothes now. I don't know why. I don't think it suits me."
She laughed softly, turning away slightly so that Geneva didn't see. "I'm sure changes can be made to fix that, dear." she said, sitting down at a nearby bench and looked around that the gardens
"You think? None of the workers really listen to me. They're still used to me being a worker like them. And I'm still kind of only used to that. This princess thing is a huge step and I'm worried that I won't be able to." She paused. "Sorry, I'm rambling."
