Oh those shit stains.. His mind felt like it was going to explode. That was exactly the answer he both wanted and didn't want. While any other person would be caught up in Cleo's sheer beauty, Silas was plotting genocide. An astounded smile grew on his lips, as if he was genuinely happy with the response Cleo had given him, and as they walked into the classroom he glanced at the group out of the corner of his eye. His smile turned a little more smug as he met Darrin's stare. However no words were spoken.
Silas entered the room, his normal bright expression returning to his face. Play it cool, show no hard feelings, easy to do right? He took his place in class, the seat next to Cleo, and leaned his head in his hand as he looked at her and whispered. "Good to know."
Situating herself at her own desk, Cleo rolled her gaze over to Silas. "Nothing I'm not used to." She murmured. Cleo refused to meet his eyes as she puled out her notebook and a pen, somewhat ashamed. Although she didn't really understand why. People just didn't really know how to act around her. They thought she was pretty and ditsy until she opened her mouth and mental illness infused intelligence came pouring out. Sighing, Cleo frowned. God emotions were such a bother.
She shouldn't have to be used to it…
Silas took out his own notepad and pens, reading and re-reading the homework he had done. He made a few corrections here and there where he had written the answers the wrong way around, before sighing, satisfied. Only when Darrin and his cronies enter the room did his walls fly up. At school he had to pretend to be friends with them, because they too were popular. Not as popular as me though. One of the girls, Jessica, gave Silas a meaningful look. Her face was caked in makeup, as usual, her eyeliner was too thick, as always. "Hey Si." she cooed, sliding into the seat next to him.
"Hi Jess." he yawned, clearly not in the mood to talk to her. "What do you want?"
The girl pouted, the shade of pink lipstick making her lips look larger than they were. "I came to ask if you wanted to come to a house party Darrin in having tonight. Everyone who's anyone will be there." There was no mistaking the distasteful glance she slid in Cleo's direction, before she smiled back up at Silas. "You will come, right?"
For the love of God… Cleo, please have some witty remark that will save me from this before I do something stupid!
The urge to roll her eyes was almost becoming unbearable. Not to mention those nasty thoughts had returned in earnest when Jessica had sat down. Cleo's fingers of her right hand tapped restlessly against her leggings as she tried to dispel the thoughts from her mind. Catching the last part of Jessica and Silas' conversation, Cleo cut a glance to them from the corner of her eye.
Jessica looked ready to pounce Silas' bones and Silas–well he looked more than a little displeased. Cleo almost laughed at the irony of it all. But–he is my friend… She dared another glance at the pair, and Jessica's snotty smirk made Cleo's decision for her.
She leaned into Silas' side, effectively cuddling him, eyes flashing like knife points and yet her smile was sharper still. "Unfortunately, Silas is much too busy this evening to associate with you rabble. Go stick your crab infested cooch elsewhere." She added a little shoo motion with her hand, flashing an impressive number of scars on her forearm as she did so.
With Cleo's last remark, Silas' eyes shot up to the ceiling while he bit the inside of his cheek—very hard. He could feel his shoulders shaking slightly as he tired to hold back the laughter that threatened to burst out. Keep it in, keep it in! Though it was easier said than done when Parisa was on the floor crying with laughter.
Jessica's mouth fell open and her eyes widened. "Excuse me? How dare you say that to me." her hold on Silas tightened as if looking for reassurance from him. "At least people want me, I don't end up cutting myself because I'm not lonely."
As soon as the words were out of Jessica's mouth, Silas yanked himself out of her grasp. If only looks could kill, the girl's head would have been rolling lifelessly on the floor. "Say that again, I fucking dare you."
"Wha—" All colour drained from Jessica's face.
Silas twisted the girl's arm around her back, pushing it upwards, almost breaking it. He leaned into her ear and hissed. "If you say anything like that again, I will murder you. Now go and be a slut somewhere else."
The teacher came into the room just as Jessica was set free. She ran out of the room with tears streaming down her face, completely ignoring the questions the teacher was asking her. Silas took a deep breath and regained his normal composure, turning to Cleo with a lopsided grin. "Sorry about that."
Cleo watched Jessica leave with a mildly cruel smile on her lips, but turned back to Silas as soon as the girl vanished. There was something odd about the gaze she had leveled at him, but before he could ask her what she was staring at, Cleo bumped her shoulder softly against his in thanks. About as affectionate as she was willing to get when she wasn't playing around.
Cleo hadn't bothered to cover up her scars, instead she looked at them as she spoke. "You didn't have to go that far–as amusing as it was. That cow is simply not worth the effort. Besides, I'm not ashamed of my scars." She shrugged, one pale shoulder slipping out of her over sized sweater and also covered in thin scars. "I don't cut to die–" Cleo said mysteriously, a slightly deranged smile growing on her lips as she traced a design through her skin. "I cut to remind myself that I'm alive."
She cleared her throat, shaking her head as if to clear it. "Sorry. Minor lapse in sanity." Another sunny smile.
