Maze laughed. "I have no idea how your prophecy works." he shrugged his shoulders, smiling at Aesir. "My apologies, but I truly don't know for what reason you were chosen. No offense meant, of course." their gaze flicked to Josef. "Jo might be able to tell you."
Josef sighed faintly. "Maybe."
"That's alright. I was mostly joking around, Aesir replied, "but knowing would be nice."
They shifted their gaze to Josef, curious but not wanting to press.
"I would like to know, but if I'm not supposed to know yet, so be it."
Josef ran a hand through his hair. His hair was dark and cut short, almost buzzed, and his skin was a light olive tone. "I do not know for sure. Either way, I could not do it here."
"I understand," Aesir replied, "I've got no problem waiting for my answers."
They smiled slightly.
"No gonna lie, this place is pretty impressive. If I'm going to be dragged away from my home and taken to an unfamiliar new setting where I don't know anyone, I'd say this is the place to do it."
Darcy laughed softly. "Yeah, they didn't skip on any expenses when they built this place." she replied,.
"Honestly, I'm just happy I get food and housing," Aesir said with a shrug, "But the library, the gardens- all of that's a nice touch too."
Arlo shrugged. "Yeah. I like the fighting lessons best." He grinned mischievously, and Darcy rolled her eyes.
"Is there a range out here?" Aesir asked, "To practice archery or crossbow?"
They smiled.
"Ranged fighting is more my thing, though I can hold my own in closer range should it come down to it. Actually… would you want to go practice together sometime?"
"There is, yes." Josef confirmed, looking over at them. "And I can go with you, if you like. Arlo is more combat, and Darcy prefers hand to hand. Maze doesn't fight." he shrugged a shoulder.
"Excellent. I'm not much of a fighter by nature, but I like to be able to defend myself. Not to mention good archery can be one hell of a party trick."
Aesir tapped their hand on the table.
"I could stand to get better at hand-to-hand and swordfighting. I've been beaten within an inch of my life, and I'd like that to not happen again."
They gestured to some of the scars on their face.
Arlo grimaced. "I can give you some teaching, though the Sentinels will probably put you in classes to help."
"Most excellent," Aesir replied with a smile, "In due time, I'll learn all that, I guess."
They leaned back in their seat.
Arlo nodded a little bit, having finished his food. "Probably."
Aesir glanced over to Maze, then back to the others at the table. They yawned slightly. It had been a long and very strange day. At least they were safe, though.
Maze leaned back in his seat, humming very faintly. "Done?" he asked them.
"Uh… yeah," Aesir replied softly, "I've been going since early. They didn't give me the chance to rest."
"I just meant with dinner, but if you're tired, we can get back to our room." Maze replied, laughing a little.
Aesir turned away.
"Oh- uh, well… No, if we need to do more before turning in for the night, we can. I don't mind all that much. What else did you have in mind?"
Maze shrugged his shoulders, stretching. "I mean, it's just a bit early to go to bed, but if you want to, I can certainly take you back to our room. I was just going to hang out with these losers tonight, really." he gestured to the other three apprentice Seers, who had fallen back into their easy bickering.
"Well, that actually sounds like fun. And relatively relaxing. I'd love to join, as long as I'm not in the way or anything," Aesir replied, "I just wasn't looking forward to more walking around the school. I've had more than enough touring."
"I get that. This school is confusing sometimes. But you'll get the hang of it." they said, leaning back a little bit and hten glancing over at his friends. Arlo was cackling, and Darcy was rolling her eyes. Josef just looked amused.
"I'm sure I will," Aesir said with an easy smile.
"Anyhow, what do you guys do for fun around here?"
Their attention drifted to the group of friends, who seemed to take a bizarre amount of joy from bickering amongst themselves.
Maze looked over at the other three again, smiling a little. "We make fun of each other." he replied goodnaturedly. "Play games, explore. That sort of thing."
Arlo looked over. "Hey, did you tell them about the old wing yet?"
"Oh, the burned down, super off-limits one? That was one of the first things Maze told me about," Aesir answered, laughing softly.
They eyed Arlo and tilted their head a little to the side.
"Weird magic shit and all that? I'm fine staying faaaaar away from that wing."
Their voice was tinged with unease. In the back of their mind, Aesir was worried that the group might try to make them venture there. They wouldn't tell, but that was not something they wanted to get involved with. But this group wasn't the type, right?
Arlo nodded a little bit, then shrugged. "I dunno, I want to explore it." he replied, leaning back in his seat. "I bet there's all kindsa cool shit in there, y'know?"
Darcy rolled her eyes. "You're going to inhale ash and choke on it, Arlo, you fucking moron."
"Hey! I'm right!" he replied, glaring at her.
