Abaven smiled graciously and stepped inside, making sure to not touch anything. He looked around the entry room, in awe of the place. Wow. This house is huge.
Adelina grabbed a small bag, then left her room, coming down the stairs. Once she got to the bottom, she smiled politely to Abaven. "May I ask your name? I would rather call you by name than anything else."
He returned the smile and replied, "My name is Abaven, milady," his eyes glanced at her bag and then at her face again. "Shall we head out?"
"Of course, Abaven." She headed towards the door, then pausing. "I have one more question to ask. Do you happen to know where we are going? Robert neglected to tell me anything about this."
Abaven held the door open for her. "No, milady. I was only instructed to escort you to wherever you wanted. However…" he trailed off, unsure if he should speak his mind.
Adelina bowed her head in appreciation and walked through the door. When he stopped talking, she turned around in confusion. "Yes? Please continue?" She was curious about what he was going to say. Is it something impolite or rude? Or did he have something important to say? She was probably more curious than she needed to be.
He walked through the door as well, closing it behind him. "I overheard from my master that you were supposed to meet with the mayor of Cartletown," he said it more like a question rather than a statement. "Apparently, your husband had done something to anger the mayor, so he sent you to visit him and settle the matter."
"Hmm. I thank you for telling me… I wonder what he did." At that point, she was more than angry. There had been multiple occasions like this and they were all her husband's fault. Recently the two of them had been disagreeing on things more than usual and it was getting on Adelina's nerves.
"Of course, milady," he smiled and gestured towards the road. "After you."
(Wait… are they taking a carriage or walking?)
(Probably walking, but if you want there to be a carriage that's okay too)
(Walking is totally okay, I just wasn't sure lol)
Adelina lightly smiled and started walking. She knew exactly where to go this time. The first time her husband sent her to take care of his problems in Cartletown, she had no idea where to go. The second time she knew where, but not without a few misturns. But this wasn't her third time going, no it was her fifth. And every single time, she had to go the Cartletown.
Abaven followed right behind her, but still at a respectful distance. The urge to kick rocks or hum a tune, or even just do something to relieve the tension was hard to resist. Fortunately, he realized could get away with watching his breaths in the air. "Are you cold, milady?"
Adelina stopped and turned around at his question. "No, I am not. Thank you for the concern, Abaven" She appreciated how polite Abaven was, way more than most of her escorts have been in the past. "If you would like, you may walk beside me. I almost feel like I am walking alone."
He nodded and walked alongside her. Can't exactly play with the air in this area, but I guess that's fine. His eyes were constantly watching for any potential threats or attacks, even though the chances of those were mostly low.
After about 6 minutes, Adelina took a turn that brought her onto a strange path, one you wouldn't associate with a duchess going to Cartletown. She walked with much confidence as she always took that route.
Abaven raised an eyebrow at her actions, but didn't say a word. She seemed to know what she was doing. But this road wasn't exactly the safest either. He would have to be on an even higher alert.
Adelina learned loved this walk. I was actually very peaceful and she felt like she never had to worry about things. It was a good walk to clear her mind before she had to deal with the mayor and it was a short cut. But while the walk was nice, she also got bored easily. She ended up grabbing a stick from a nearby tree and she broke off little piece after little piece.
Abaven was still on the lookout for any attackers. When Adelina started to mess with the stick, it distracted him and he wished he could join in, but quickly returned to keeping watch. His anxiety increased as they got closer and closer to Cartletown. Who knows if the mayor would send out assassins for her? He wondered what would happen when they arrived as they drew closer to their destination.
After breaking 13 sticks, and walking for 6 minutes, they made it to the gates of Cartletown. Adelina knew that the moment she entered the limits, people would be talking to her and being downright impolite. To the townsfolk of Cartletown, Adelina was nothing more than a useless woman unworthy of her position as a duchess. She stopped at the gates, still hesitant to enter. She sighed. "Abaven, are you prepared to enter Cartletown? If you have ever been here before, I assure you everyone acts very differently once I enter the town."
"I am fully prepared, milady." He spoke with an air of confidence. "You may rest easy. None shall harm you unless if they seek certain death." He gripped the hilt of his sword. What he said was true. His reputation in Cartletown was well respected, and he was certainly feared. Though he wasn't about to just tell her why. He stood a bit closer to her, however. Just in case. The gates opened and they walked through. Some people looked as though they would have said something rude, but when their gaze reached Abaven, they quickly shut their mouth and looked away.
Adelina smiled lightly to herself at everyone's reactions. She was very glad he was her escort, and she would definitely ask for him again. This was the first time she actually felt comfortable in that town and with her escort. After turning down a street, they reached the courthouse(?). She took a deep breath before entering the building. "Abaven, you may wait outside of this door." She gestured to the mayor's office door. "I will be out shortly." With that, she enters the mayor's office.
Abaven obeyed and waited outside the courthouse, using this time to kick rocks and be somewhat of a dork.
Adelina closed the door and waited for the mayor to ask her to his desk. Once he did, she sat down in front of him and they discussed stuff. (I honestly don't know what they should talk about and stuff lol)
