"You don't know what I can do, but I do. And what I can do…it scares me."
"You don't know what I can do, but I do. And what I can do…it scares me."
He smoothed her hair and gave her a smile. "I trust you, okay?"
"And I trust you," Raven whispered, but she couldn't smile.
"Babe, smile for me, please?"
The corner of Raven's mouth lifted for a few seconds, then fell again.
He sighed. "Is that all I'm gonna get? Don't make me have to tickle you…"
"You don't want to do that right now."
"Raven, please smile." He gave her his best version of puppy dog eyes.
Raven stood. "I don't feel like smiling."
"Why?"
"Sometimes it's easier to frown than to smile."
"A smile cures the wounding of a frown."
"Just…stop. I don't want to smile. Leave it alone."
His own smile dropped and he looked at the ground.
Raven's wings spread, and she winces in pain.
"Don't do that if it hurts!" he said quickly, up on his feet in an instant.
Raven reached up and used her magic to heal her wings.
He let out a sigh. "You scare me too much."
"I scare myself, too," Raven said, spreading her wings without pain.
"It's not a good thing, babe," he mumbled.
"Yes, it is. You need to scare yourself to have limits."
"But what happens if you push yourself past your limits?" he asked, walking over to her and cupping her cheek with his hand.
Raven looked down. "Then…I guess I have to live with that."
"I couldn't live with that."
"Well…I could. And you have to live with you."
