He eventually gave up on the book, and turned to his homework for the next class. He knew the summary of the story anyway, and he needed to finish the homework. The teacher let them all do pretty much whatever they wanted, as long as they stayed caught up with what was going on in the story. He glanced sideways at the girl, absentmindedly wondering if she had siblings that had moved into the school.

((Time skip!))

Babe didn't follow the rest of the students to the mess hall, instead turning down a different hallway. After pulling some pimple covered kid aside, she had been directed to the school's hockey stadium, and that's where she was heading now. Her phone was tucked in the crook of her neck as she chatted with Rico, who was catching her up on what Kai, Zach, and Adrian thought about the school. All five of them were high school age, with Zach and Adrian being the other set of twins their mom had given birth to.

Henry sat across from the coach, rubbing his head. "I don't know, sir. I'm trying, but I don't know if I can keep up." The coach, an older man with the looks of an untrimmed beard.
"Henry, I don't know what to tell you. The school can only do so much." Henry sighed deeply and leaned back in the chair. They looked at each other and the coach shrugged helplessly.

Babe pushed open the doors to the stadium as she hung up the phone, promising to meet with Rico after school or something. She made her way to the 'lounge room', a space for the team to cool off during half time and bond during any other time, and stopped in her tracks. There, sitting in front of her, was the guy from study hall and her History class, and- "Well fuck me gently with a chainsaw, Hawk?" Daniel Hawkins, the man who had taught her how to skate and play, was here in Maine?

@BrennaKadavsky

(I don't want to be picky, but could we maybe keep the innapropriate language to a minimum? I'm a really annoying person to rp with, I know, I'm just not very comfortable with swearing and bad words)
Henry turned around, surprised to hear anyone in the lounge area during food time. He looked back and forth between the two. "Do you… know each other?" He asked, awkwardly wondering if he should come back later. He could always take the free time he was spending here, and use it to catch up on more of his homework. He was, admittedly, somewhat more curious about the girl now that she'd appeared in his place.

@croccin-champagne

((Alrighty! It might be a bit hard, but I'll try and keep it mild if at all.))

Hawk stood, a grin on his stubbly face, and wrapped her up in a huge bear hug. "Babe Nova, how you been kid? Up to any more trouble?"

Babe laughed, returning the hug after a split second of barely noticeable hesitation. "You know me, always up to trouble. I've been good, but how 'bout you, man?"

@BrennaKadavsky

(Thanks!)
Henry stood as well, drifting a little farther away from the two. Babe… That was a name with a lot of possibility. He leaned against the wall, feeling out of place, but not finished with his conversation yet. And now, he realized the girl might be a little more interesting than just a new face. He remembered the hockey bag, and suddenly remembered the team's need for more players.

@croccin-champagne

"Say!" Hawk suddenly exclaimed as he released her, eyes flickering to her bag and furthering his resolve. "Why don't you join us at tryouts! We're in desperate need, as Jacobs here could tell ya." He jerked his head in Henry's direction. "I'll keep two open, if you want it. I know how much you like your number."

Babe blinked, a slow grin spreading across her face. She really shouldn't have been considering it, but here she was. "Y'know, I'm not supposed to be playing…" She ignored the questioning look Hawk gave her. "But I'm always up for hockey."

@BrennaKadavsky

Henry blinked at the coach. It was an all guys team, and it wasn't so much that they needed extra members, just that a few of them… weren't skilled. They played because the school appreciated it, and the three of them didn't even try. If this girl could play, she'd be worth it, because they could get rid of one of the three 'other players.' He grinned, and went with the coach's infectious enthusiasm. "If you can play, we can put you on the rink. Actually, I take that back. If you know how to hold a stick, and swing it, we can put you on the rink." He also didn't want to dampen the coach's perpetual hope that lots of people would come to tryouts. No one had ever come for years, all the recruiting being done by the coach. There just wasn't enough interest these days.

@croccin-champagne

"I can do more than just hold a stick and swing, sweetheart." Babe said, smirking at the other boy. She jerked her thumb at Hawk, who looked proud, chest puffed out like a…bird. "This guy taught me how to shoot my first goal. I'll be there, definitely."

@BrennaKadavsky

Henry gave a hesitant laugh. Hopefully, she was serious, and she really could play. If Hawk had taught her, she had to be pretty good. And they needed pretty good. "Great. I'll talk to you later, Hawk, when I figure stuff out. See you both at practice." He grabbed his backpack and left the lounge, already planning on being at the tryouts to see what this new girl was made of.

@croccin-champagne

Babe stepped out of the locker room, helmet in place and covering her face. She had absolutely every intention of hiding that she was a girl, right up until afterwards. She had grabbed her gear after walking home with her brothers, quickly making some excuse about looking for a job and ditching before anyone could ask why she had her hockey bag. She sat outside the rink, lacing up her skates and checking over her stick for any splintered wood.

@BrennaKadavsky

Classic. No one at tryouts. Henry walked over to where the coach sat and sat down next to him. "Any interest besides that girl?" Hawk turned and gave him a look, and Henry nodded reluctantly. A few other members of the team filed in, sitting near the two and turning to absentminded conversation. The whole team tried to show up for tryouts, to encourage whoever came. Or, most of the whole team. the team currently had 8 members, 5 of which lived for hockey. The other three showed up, but never tried. He engaged one of his teammates in conversation, waiting for the girl to finish getting ready. He started preparing his own skates, being ready for going up against the girl in case she seemed capable.

@croccin-champagne

Babe slid easily onto the ice, and she seemed to grow even more confident as she skated a couple laps. She moved like she was born doing this, and like it was everything she'd ever need. In a way, it kind of was.

"Alright! Glad t' see ya, Nova!" Hawk called in a loud booming voice. "We'll start with some drills, and once you've proven yourself, move on to one on one!" He didn't say if, as though he had no doubt she'd do great.

@BrennaKadavsky

Henry watched the girl, Nova, like a hawk. She had good rhythm- at least as good, if not better, than most of the team. Slowly, the conversations dwindled as more of the team turned to look over at the figure circling the rink. Henry bent down and started to lace up his skates, preparing for a one on one match. He usually did all the matches, and it was obvious she'd make it that far.

@croccin-champagne

Babe let Hawk direct her through the drills, all of which she flew through easily. Hockey was her element, her favorite thing in the world, and it showed.

After all the drills, Hawk waved Henry onto the ice, a huge grin on his face. He never usually showed this much enthusiasm for new recruits, and it was obvious he was excited about Babe joining.

@BrennaKadavsky

Henry enjoyed seeing his coach's enthusiasm, and slid out onto the ice smoothly. He angled himself towards Nova, shifting around on the ice until he got back into his rhythm. He then proceeded to glide around until he was facing the coach, then waited. He hadn't played a one on one against a good opponent in months, since they'd done one on ones between the team itself.

@croccin-champagne

"Alright! The goal is simple, winner is whoever scores 5 goals. Most goals in the time frame also works, whichever comes first! Anything's legal," Hawk said this with a knowing look in Babe's direction. "So impress me."

@BrennaKadavsky

Henry grinned and took off towards the puck. (That's what the little round thing is called, right?) and got it as fast as he could. He might play goalie, but he knew what to do with the puck. The ice felt good underneath his skates, and he had a slight lead on Nova- he was confident the first goal would be his.

@croccin-champagne

((It is, yeah lmao))

Babe had always been better at offense, but she knew how to work it into defense. She waited just until Henry thought he had the goal, before stealing to puck right from him and skating of. And she was fast. She didn't bother looking back to see Henry's reaction, focused on the goal on the other end of the ice. Once close enough, she hit, and watched the puck sail straight into the goal.

@BrennaKadavsky

He flicked himself around, mentally hitting himself for not seeing that coming. He got back into position, and tried a new technique. This time, he slammed the stick into the ball as soon as she started to move with it, hitting it all the way to her goal. He missed, but got it again and hit it into her goal. They were tied, and he was starting to really enjoy himself now.
