"I-It's fine. Just call me Laura," she said shyly.
"I-It's fine. Just call me Laura," she said shyly.
“Nice to meet you, Laura,” Stella smiled and held out her hand for her to shake, “I’m Stella.”
Laura slowly reached out and shook the girl's hand weakly. It's not like you're that impressive… she hardly even noticed you at first. You don't even have a chance. Damn you, Laura… Before she could stop herself, she spoke up again quietly, "Stella is a pretty n-name."
“Thank you! I like your name as well.” Stella smiled and sighed, “Sorry that I didn’t notice you before I sat on the bench, I was cleaning my glasses and I can’t really see anything without them on.”
"It's fine, I… I'm used to people not really, um, seeing me," she replied, tapping her pen on her leg.
Stella gave her a sympathetic look, “That must suck…why would they ignore you? You seem really nice.”
"Well, uh, I just, um…" She paused for a second to briefly collect herself. "I like to observe people and, uh, things, and I write about it." The notebook in front of her was finally addressed.
“Really?” Stella noticed the notebook and wondered if Laura had written about, “That’s cool.”
She nodded shyly and ran her fingers affectionately over the pages.
“How about often do you write about people?” Stella was intrigued
"A lot," she admitted. "But it's, uh, mostly nature. Plants, and animals, and scenes… uh, stuff like that…"
“Can I see?” Stella asked then blushed lightly, “You don’t have to show me if you don’t want to.”
Laura bit her lip and flipped back through the pages until she found one that she seemed to like. Slowly, she slid the notebook across the table towards Stella.
Can it be more lonely
Than this?
There is nothing around me, not
Even another life form.
What am I in all this? An
Insignificant girl.
But I blink, and then
I'm surrounded by blooming
Colors that envelope me.
The darkness is replaced with the light
And it's beauty
Overwhelms me.
The cold has become warm and it is
To good to truly exist.
But yet it does
And I no longer feel
Alone.
“Oh god…that’s really good!” Stella was in awe, “You sure do have a talent for writing.”
"Oh, um, thank you," Laura whispered shyly.
“You’re welcome,” she straightened her glasses and glanced at her phone, “Oh shit, it’s 6 o’clock. My mom will be wondering where I’m at.” Stella looked at Laura as she got off the bench, “I don’t live with her but we have dinner together every Friday. Anyway, if it’s okay with you, before I leave, could I get your number?”
Laura took her notebook back and nodded shyly. She tore a corner off of the notebook and wrote her phone number on it before handing it out to the girl.
“Awesome thanks! I’ll text you later. See you, Laura!” And with that Stella exited the park and went to her moms house for dinner.
"Bye," Laura replied quietly.
(Skip to maybe later when Stella texts Laura?)
(Yeah)
After Stella was back at her house, she pulled the slip of paper from her pocket and decided to text Laura
[Hey! It’s me, Stella.]
Laura's phone buzzed and she checked it. A small smile spread on her face as she replied.
[Hi, how are you?]
[Good, how about you?]
Stella grinned, while sitting on the couch in her living room
[Okay]
Laura hesitated. She was in her room, and it was so dark that she didn't even see her mother entering the door.
"Laura? What are you doing?"
She jumped and looked up as her mother turned on the light. Her 'emo' room was illuminated from the light beside her bed. "N-Nothing, Mom."
Her mother arched a disbelieving eyebrow. "Really?"
[Thats Good. What are you doing right now?]
[Nothing]
"Who are you texting?" she asked.
"No one," Laura answered quietly.
Her mother sighed. "Laura, you know I hate your room like this. It was so sweet before. Why did you have to change it?"
"I wanted to," she mumbled in reply, checking her phone again to see if Stella texted her back.
