Without a word they positioned themselves around them. The tallest of the three, pointing his weapon at the stranger, spoke up. "Name and reason of audience," he demanded sharply.
Without a word they positioned themselves around them. The tallest of the three, pointing his weapon at the stranger, spoke up. "Name and reason of audience," he demanded sharply.
"My village, my people, we're under attack," He was ready to beg if he had to, "We need help, reinforcements. Please I need to speak to someone."
The guard considered him a moment before nodding to the guard positioned behind the man to pick him up.
He led the group of men past the gates into the main hall. Here, he paused.
He turned back to face the stranger. "What's your name, sir?"
"Kane. Kane Millson." He replied swiftly, placing his hands behind his back.
Hesitating, the guard mulled over the options. All were in equal reach here in the main hall. Suddenly, hearing the main doors of the floor above open, he chose what to do before any of the royals saw the situation.
"Put him down in the cells," he muttered to the man holding him.
"You're trespassing," he spat in Kane's face, hand already back on his sword.
Kane's eyes widened and he started to struggle, "Come on! You have to believe me! I need to talk to someone or else my kind is going to go extinct!"
"That might just be convenient," the guard said coolly. "We'll put you in our museum," he said before returning to his spot by the doors.
He snarled, still struggling with no luck. He was dragged down into the cells, being thrown in carelessly. The door was locked before he had a chance to escape.
The doors on the floor above were heaved open. Olivia looked down over the banister into the entrance hall, seeing Aspen walk back to the gates. She used every ounce of strength she had to slowly head down the stairs, tucking her hair back behind her ear every few minutes. As soon as she hit the tiled hall floor and she ran up to Aspen, catching up to him in a breathless and disheveled state.
"I heard a commotion? Please tell me my parents aren't home," she questioned him once she'd caught her breath.
Aspen turned to Olivia and shook his head, "No, they aren't."
She stepped back, straightening her posture and rearranging her hair. "Good to hear. What was all that about then?" she asked him on a much cooler tone.
"Some male just turned up, well, at first he was a dragon, and then he was a man, and he was asking for a council with your father or someone from the royal family. He said it was a matter of great importance." Aspen rolled his eyes.
Olivia blinked. "A shifter turned up?" She bit back her excitement. "Where did you send him to wait for me?"
“The cells.” Aspen replied simply.
Olivia stepped back. "You– you locked him up?" She frowned, tucking her arms behind her back before the did something stupid.
"Did he attack one of you?"
"No. But he trespassed." He shrugged a shoulder.
Olivia bit back a reaction. "Very well. Take me to his cell now, Aspen," she asked coldly.
"Of course, your highness." Aspen stiffened a little before leading Olivia down to the cells. When they got closer, you could hear Kane rambling and pacing, annoyed by the entire ordeal.
They descended into the dungeon, greeted by the noisy newcomer. "Does he have a name?" Olivia asked Aspen curiously as they approached.
"Kane. Kane Millson." He stopped outside the cell. Kane stopped his rambling just to glare at Aspen but continued to pace.
"You may return to your post, Aspen," Olivia told the guard.
She studied Kane. He was tall and well built, with startling blue eyes and wild dark hair. She approached the cell slowly.
"Could you stop pacing, Kane?" she requested quietly.
Aspen took one last look at Kane before he left.
Kane stopped glaring and pacing. He tilted his head to the side, his blue eyes brightened for a moment before they went back to normal, "Why should I?"
"Well, you asked to speak to me, did you not?" Olivia replied unflinchingly.
His head tilted a little more, "Queen? Or Princess?" He asked, taking a small step closer.
Olivia straightened proudly. "Simply princess," she said, almost daring him to turn her away for status.
