Jess snorts.
"They will, but you really think they'll care? They aren't paid enough for that shit."
Jess snorts.
"They will, but you really think they'll care? They aren't paid enough for that shit."
"Ha, yeah." Kris agrees flatly. She stares at Jess as they walk, thinking about how this went from a random encounter to skipping school together. Not like she never expected to do it, but she thought she would alone. She realizes she's been alone for a while. Something optimistic inside her hopes this might happen often.
Jess turns a carwheel, not really giving a shit.
"Wait a minute - how old are you? I'm 17, but people constantly tell me I look 20, which is honestly hilarious, but you look young."
Kris' hands pick at her nail polish again. "I'm 16." She looked up at Jess. "You do look- uh, mature, though." 'Shit, was worded really stupidly.' She thought.
Jess raises an eyebrow. "16, huh. You look younger."
"Eyes on my face, not my chest. We just met, remember?" she grins.
Kris' face burned. "I was not- I don't-" She exhaled, recentering her head directly in front of herself, for once. Her hands were now stiff against her sides. "Is this it?" Kris asked, clearly trying to change the subject, as she spotted the coffee shop.
Jess laughs brightly.
"Just teasing." she smiles.
"Yeah, that's it." she says, pushing the doors open.
Kris walks into the cool air conditioning. Some song is playing vaguely in the background on the speakers, it's familiar, probably because everyone has heard it one thousand times over. "I can pay if you don't have anything on you." Kris offers, extracting her wallet.
Jess waves off the offer.
"Nah, I got money. I do various gigs at clubs around town. I also do a lot of cleaning. Basically, I ain't short on cash."
She walks up to the counter and leans over it, giving the lady at the counter a flirty smile.
The lady blushes slightly, but asks for their orders.
(ok wait just checking this is a romance oxo right)
(Yeah, that'll happen, but Jess flirts a lot, no matter what XD )
(nice B))
"Oh. That's cool. I babysit sometimes." Kris rested her elbow on the counter. She really does look mature, already flirting with the cashier. Kris smiled without noticing it. When the woman asked for their order, she spoke up. "I'll have, uh-" She realized she'd been spacing out and forgot what she was going to say. "Sorry, you go first, ha." The smile still lingered on her face, even if she didn't realize.
(Already distracted by Jess and her bullshittery lol)
Jess turns her head to smirk at Kris.
"Okay then."
She orders a venti salted caramel crunch frappuccino.
(yes 😁)
(why am i doing this to her i could never drink black coffee)
Why is she smirking? Kris chose to ignore this and ordered a black coffee, then chose a random table as fast as possible without running so she would look less spaced. She also made a point to make her face neutral again. Get it together.
(. . .I can, but I don't very often, unless I wish myself to be in a great deal of mental pain)
Jess waves at the bartender and follows Kris to the table.
"So, why black coffee?"
"Never drank anything else." Kris explained. She stirred it with her straw although there was nothing that needed to be stirred, she just liked watching the ice go in a swirl like it did (adhd moment). "Is it any good?" She asked without looking up.
(ADHD MOMENT GO BRRRRRRR XD )
"Really? You've always drank black coffee?" Jess asks.
She shrugs.
"Dunno, never had it before."
"It's strong." Kris laughs. "I'm impressed by anyone who'd be able to finish this."
Jess raises an eyebrow.
"I'll make you a bet then: if I can finish off a venti black coffee, you have to prank a teacher with me."
Kris' eyes widened, then met Jess'; they narrowed as she smirked. "Sure, lets see."
Jess grins and walks back up to the counter, ordering a venti black coffee.
She grabs her drink after it's done and goes back to the table.
"Ready to pincushion a teacher's chair?"
"Hell yeah." Kris couldn't hold back a wide smile at the absurdity of the circumstance.
Despite the coffe being hot - and still steaming - Jess puts the coffe to her lips and starts drinking.
She makes a face, but starts speeding up the speed of her drinking, nearly chugging it.
She finishes it in about three minutes.
"And you didn't think I could." she smirks, leaning back in her chair.
"Uh- wow. Okay, you showed me. I'm impressed. Lets go." Kris stands and starts to leave. "We just walk back into class or something?"
