(Pg-14, please have good grammar)

Maryland, at the close of the 18th century, twenty-three year old Deborah(nickname Dovie) is the daughter of a tavern owner and is yet to find a suitor to marry. Her father grows impatient, pushing her to meet men by the—what feels like—hundreds. She has no romantic feelings to any of them, although plenty are courteous and a gentleman. She even becomes friends with a few of them.
But what happens when she meets a lovely woman while taking a walk around the town, and falls completely head over heels? Her father would be furious, Society would have her head. But as long as they keep it a secret, who can really stop them?

Deborah walked down the street towards the docks with her arm hooked around a man’s arm. She and Jacob, her very rich date, had been set up by her father in hopes that they would hit it off and marry as soon as possible. However, they walked in silence, neither of them arriving to have much fun. Deborah silently wished she could just go home.

Jacob sighed through his nose and looked around the town absentmindedly. He free hand fidgeted with a small bag full of coins.

Annalise was staying in the middle of the dock, looking around for someone who could spear having a bit of their coins stolen. Her eyes found a bored looking man with an attractive woman on his arm. She smirked slightly, making her way near them, ready to snag the bag of coins.

Jacob turned his head to look at Deborah, making a polite small-talk comment about how busyvthe docks always were.

Deborah nodded, “Yes, they always are..” she nodded slightly, having not noticed the comely thief approaching them yet.

Annalise smiled as she nicked the small pouch from behind him, picking up her pace. "Excuse me, terribly sorry, but I am a bit late for something." She said, pushing her way past.

Deborah looked to Jacob, who reached behind him to instinctively make sure his money was still there—it wasn’t.

“Hey!!” Jacob yelled and pushed through the crowd to dash off after her.

Deborah stayed put with wide, very confused eyes. She wrapped her arms around herself, “Okay, then…”

Annalise glanced back, hiking up her skirt and breaking into a run. "Thank you, sir!" She called mockingly, laughing. "Now I might eat!"

He shoved away the people in his way, shouting curses and names at her, “Thief! Stop her!” He called to anyone, despite chasing her herself.

Deborah squinted, not really caring about her date’s pocket money, but she was more curious about the thief who stole it. Women typically weren’t thieves and street rats—and thieves typically weren’t that attractive either. Slower than Jacob, she began following them in the wake of their chase.

Annalise laughed as he yelled. They knew her here, and with what she did for them and what she knew, no one dared to help him. She just had to shake him off.

Jacob cursed as several of the people in the crowd intentionally cut him off.

Deborah assumed they would let her through easier, as she didn’t seem to pose a threat, “Miss, wait!” She called.

Deborah continued to weave between the crowds until she made it to the corner, “Miss?” She spoke again, hand resting against the building, “I’m not mad, I barely know him anyway, I just…”

@lavender_ladybug group

She shrugged, “I know you didn’t mean to-“ she had a heavy Gaelic accent, a vague line between Scottish and Irish,”-But thank you for breaking us up. I was having a terrible time.”

Deborah smiled too, shyly, “My father owns a tavern, would you possibly like to eat dinner there? We have good food…and his pocket money might be enough for a bed too.”
