Coraline rolled her eyes, pulling the door open and walking in.
Coraline rolled her eyes, pulling the door open and walking in.
“Don’t roll your eyes. You’d do the same thing.”
"Shut up."
Simon bit its lip, supressing a laugh. “Honestly. You need to do meditation or something.”
"You think I haven't tried?" She asked, rolling her eyes. "Just empty your mind-Nope!"
“Maybe you aren’t trying hard enough.”
"What do you know?"
“A lot, actually,” Simon said. It sat down in a chair in the library, crossing its arms.
Coraline sat across from it, rolling her eyes.
Sir Waverly came through the door, waddling towards his enormous desk. He sat down and looked at both of them in turn. "Have you prepared. For your quest. My young adventurers."
"Yes, sir." Coraline said, nodding.
Simon just nodded.
Sir Waverly folded his hands atop his desk. “This will be. An extremely dangerous quest. However. You will have each other. And you. Will have. This map.” He pulled a rolled piece of paper out of his sleeve and set it on the desk in front of him.
Coraline looked down at the map, blinking a few times. "Is there any clue to where it's taking us?"
“Of course there is,” Simon said in irritation. “Otherwise what use would the map be?”
“It has. A very good point,” Sir Waverley said. “Simon will be a great help to your quest with its knowledge. However. You, Coraline. Will also. Be vital. Your courage is admirable.”
Coraline bit her lip, messing with her fingers. She wasn't used to hearing adults say nice things about her. She gave Sir Waverly a quick nod.
"Are you both. Ready to begin. This intrepid endeavor." Sir Waverly thumped his cane against the ground to emphasize his already demons sized words.
Simon nodded. "Of course."
"Yes, sir." She said, sitting up a little straighter.
"Very well. Off you go. And remember. Use your magic. Sparingly. The ordinary world. May not be ready. Or accepting of you." With those words of wisdom, Sir Waverley motioned for the two to leave with his cane.
Simon got up immediately. and took one backward step, then turned and padded toward the door.
Coraline got up, turning to go leave and mumbling a "thank you" to Sir Waverley.
Simon took a detour to its room and dug its bag out of their closet, then went to the front door, Crispin hopping from foot to foot on its shoulder.
Coraline went up to her room, shouldering her bag and letting Inky climb into her pocket, before heading down to the front door.
“Onward and upward,” Simon said mildly, pushing open the doors.
Coraline stepped through the door, adjusting her grip on her bag. "Where to first?"
“To the bus stop first,” Simon said, secretly pleased that Coraline had let it take charge. It started down the sidewalk, unfurling the map and turning it the right way.
Coraline trailed after it, hands in her jean pockets as she hummed.
