Lyra took one last look at the body before she followed. She would have made a comment about her not being a dog so he couldn't just tell her to 'come or whatever' but honestly, for the first time she didn't like it was appropriate and kept her mouth shut. Why would someone even want to murder so many people just for one guy? It didn't make any sense.
It was a long walk, but soon enough they reached the prison. "You don't have to come in if you don't want to." The guards moved in front of the gate. Ky, reaching into his pocket pulled out his badge showing them his name. He hasn't been here in a few years, but right away they recognized his name. "Ky Jones. You are quite famous around here." Ky sighed. He didn't want to be famous in a prison. "Well Lyra, are you going to come?"
Lyra hadn't really been paying attention to what had been happening, too caught up looking around and wondering why Ky had been here so many times to make him 'famous.' She looked to Ky and nodded, "'Course I am. Why wouldn't I?" She flashed a small smile, though made sure to have her wand ready in case she ever needed to use it.
Once inside there were even more guards. "Empty all pockets. Jackets must come off as well. Any jewelry has to be put in a locker." The huge blue orc gestured to the right where lockers lined the walls from top to bottom. There were many different kinds of creatures here, but mostly orcs, since they are known for their strength. Ky emptied his pockets and took his watch off next was his coat. He wrapped all his things inside his coat and put it in a locker. "You know you can't bring that in, right?" Ky's eyes wandered to her wand. It was a prison, of course they wouldn't allow anything like that.
Lyra frowned down at her wand, tightening her grip on the wood. She never went anywhere without her wand really, not unless she forgot it by accident, "Yeah… I know…" She mumbled, placing her wand in a locker next to Ky's. She was tempted to give a dramatic speech but decided against it, shutting the locker a second later, "Let's go."
A different guard led them down a few halls and into a room that only held one prison in it. Half of the room was divided by plexiglass. There were no windows, and three guards stayed in the room at all times. A tall man stood from his chair with a smile that was a little off. "My son." Ky hated those words, although he really was his dad, Ky didn't want him to be. "What brings you here?" Ky walked closer to the plexiglass and sighed. "Someone is going around killing people to get my attention. He's using people's lives as a game to get me to find him. And I figured a criminal can help me find a criminal." Ky's father just laughed and slammed his fist on the glass. "But son, you are a criminal yourself, a very smart one. You are too smart for your own good. So, I don't see why you need me for this. Don't you love playing games." Shut up! He thought. "I'm nothing like you!"
"Think again son, you are exactly like and more!" Ky then lost it. He slammed the glass the same way his father did. "Shut up! You don't know me. You haven't been in my life since I was eight. You know nothing!" One of the guards came over and pulled Ky back. "Alright, I think it's time for you to leave." He followed the guard out, but his eyes were cold and dead.
Lyra watched the interaction curiously. Even though Ky was asked to leave she wasn’t, technically. She walked up to the glass and crossed her arms, looking the man up and down a couple times with a frown, “So… do you have any idea who might want to get to Ky? Or why they would do such a thing?”
"Ky has a lot of people after him. So," the man shrugged and sat back down un his chair, "who knows. Anyway, who are you and what do you want with my son?" Ky's father leaned forward, intrested in who this girl might be. Ky had never been good with people, especially girls. So why all the sudden would he just wander around with one?
Lyra sighed and shrugged, starting to slowly pace in front of the glass, "Who I am doesn't matter, I'm no one really. Look, one of my friends was murdered and Ky said he'd look into it. Coincidentally the bastard is also my next door neighbour. We were have a… friendly chat when he got a call from one of his police friends and I tagged along for the ride."
"Hm, still, by now he should have pushed you away. Like everyone else he knows." A laugh came from the man, but it didn't last long. "If I were you, I wouldn't stay by his side. Death follows that boy, it's like he's cursed." A bell rang and he crossed his arms. "Miss, it's time to go." Ine of the guards gently pushed on her back to lead her out. Ky had been waiting in the entrance for Lyra. He debated leaving without her, but something told him to stay.
Lyra went over what the man had said when she was being led out. She retrieved her things from her locker, putting her wand in her pocket before she went out to meet Ky. Honestly she was a little surprised to see him still here, "Ready to go?"
(Sorry, I've been pretty busy lately.)
"Yeah let's go." Ky swung his coat around and put it on. "This is why I hate visiting that man." He ran a hand through his hair, exposing his abnormally light blue eyes. "Let's just go home. I need time to think this over." There had to be some clue left behind to help him find this person, and see what he wanted. "Sorry to drag you into this." Ky apologized and turned to Lyra. "I can make you dinner or something, if you'd like?" He was awkward, but he had manners.
(All good)
Lyra held back a giggle, knowing Ky was trying his best. His lack of people skills was obvious but she wasn’t going to comment on it in the present moment. Maybe at a later date, though, “You, want to cook me dinner? Can you even cook?”
"Of course I can cook!" If cooking meant boxed Macaroni and cheese, than yes he can. "You're not afraid of dogs are you?" His dog was well behaved, but you never know if someone might have a fear. They made it to his door step, but he stopped so he could hear her answer first.
Lyra shook her head, pushing a strand of hair out of her face with her wand, "Nah, dogs are fine. I've dealt with worse." Many magical being that weren't the friendliest had knocked on her door or cornered her in an ally but she'd come out on top… albeit with a couple broken bones but still.
Ky opened his door and was greeted by his golden retriever, Sunny. "Hey girl, we have a guest, so behave." He pushed her down off of him and went straight to the kitchen. Opening a cupboard he pulled one of his cook books out. You could clearly see the dust fall off of it. Quickly, he cleaned it off so Lyra wouldn't see. Ky flipped through the book hoping to find the easiest recipe in there. "So, ah, what do you do for a living?" He tried his best to make conversation, but it came out a little unnatural to him.
Lyra was immediately drawn to the dog, cooing softly as she petting the creature a couple times and then followed Ky. She leaned against the door frame, and she did see the dust fall from the book and she rolled her eyes, "I'm in collage. I'm studying biology." She replied, using her wand to clean up a few pots and pans lying in his sink.
"Ah, I see." Stupid, that's all you could say? Why are you so bad at this. Ky hadn't been around people much, unless he was at work. He stopped at a page with just a simple pasta recipe and figured it would be easy enough. Pulling se pasta from him pantry he set it aside and waited for the water to boil.
Lyra walked over and leaned around his shoulder so she could read the recipe and stifled a laugh, "I thought you said you knew how to cook?" She asked, flicking to another, harder, pasta recipe that she knew she could make, "You're a liar, Sir."
"I can cook," he pouted a little. "Just not super complicated meals," He whispered, it was so quiet he could barely hear himself. Ky walked away, letting Lyra take over. He sat on his couch and closed his eyes. Images of both the murders showed up in his mind, and he went over it all over again, to see if there was anything he missed.
Lyra watched him go with a soft sigh. She let him do whatever it was that he was doing before she let out a whistle, "Oi, I'm not doing this all myself ya know. Maybe you can learn a thing or two if you pay attention." She shook her head a little, starting to hum quietly to herself.
"If I can cook a few meals, then I'll be fine. I'm a detective, not a cook." He interrupted her thoughts, so he moved to his board. Removing the sheet, on the board was pictures of victim's and notes. There had to be something left behind. "Thanks for the meal." Somehow Lyra ended up making the meal while Ky worked, like usual.
“No problem. But next time you’re helping.” Lyra replied before taking a bite of her pasta. It was actually really good, but she did decide agates she’d finished that it needed more spices but hey, there was always next time.
"Sure… next time." Wait, did she say next time? Does that mean she plans to stick around? Ky wasn't entirely sure how he felt about that. From he knows she is stubborn and occasionally annoying. On the other hand she would be safer if she stuck around. He didn't need anymore people murdered because of him.
Lyra didn't think too far into what she said. She knew that he was going to be working on the case and she wanted to know the details so it would make sense for her to stick around for a while longer. She grinned and started to pet and play with Ky's dog, trying to keep quiet so she didn't distract Ky from his work.
