There was something. Something he couldn't put his finger on. "And how well did you know her?" Did this girl really know Anne like she thought? Ky got down on her level. His ice blue eyes looking into hers, searching, searching for something. Before she could answer him, Ky's phone went off. With an annoyed sigh he stood and answered it. "Hello." Voices could be heard on the other side, probably a busy room. "Hm, I see. Alright." Then he hung up. "You, here." He handed her a card with his contact information." And with that he ran off to get ready for his first job of the day.
Off somewhere else.
The panting of someone came from a dark room. Why is this happening to me? The man wanted to cry, but if he made any noise they would find him. The man searched his brain for any enemies he might have, that would want to kill him. Foot steps were heard from the puddles on the ground. "No matter where you go, I'll always find you." A laugh came From the killer. "Tonight you are my pray, and I'm a predator that never fails to catch it's pray." The door opened with a creak, and followed by that a scream. "The games begin, Ky."
Lyra spluttered some nonsense as he left, standing abruptly as if she was going to go after him but changing her mind last second. She sighed, looking at the card he'd given her. Ky… She palmed the card, sighing and heading back towards home. May as well practice her spells for a while, it's not like she had anything better to do right now, anyway.
"What the hell Ky!?" As he approached the scene, everyone stared in silence. Everyone except the chief of police. Toby stormed under the yellow tape and got in Ky's face. His face full of rage. "Who the hell did you piss off this time?" Ky looked over Toby's shoulder. There seemed to be some misunderstanding. Ky walked over to the scene. A man with a slit throat sat in a dark room. "Let's play a game?" Ky walked closer stepping over the body. The words were in blood, but the strange thing is that it was dry. The bodies blood was still fresh. "Let's play a game, Ky?" Someone was out there and wanted Ky to catch him. But obviously he would, Ky caught anyone he was after. "Don't worry, I'll catch him." Ky walked away. "Just send me the evidence." He walked home. Once home he sat on the couch. This has never happened before. He leand forward and put his hands together. "If that's what you want, then fine. Let's play." Ky always liked games, and this was going to be a fun one.
AC/DC blasted through the speakers Lyra had set up. Anyone in a two mile radius would probably be able to hear the rock music playing. She currently was lying on the couch, her cat, Knox curled up on her stomach while she practiced a few summoning and fire spells. She'd been visited by a few other magical creatures in the past couple hours asking for certain potions which she had gladly given out, it kept her mind off of Anne. Her black cat stirred when a pen landed on its head but didn't mind too much, he was used to this. And yes, yes he could talk when he wanted but it was mainly around Lyra. her mind wandered to Ky, she'd settled with calling him a detective and was contemplating texting him but decided she would later.
As he tried to think, a sound snapped him out of it. A song, even though it was daytime, there was no need for anyone to be playing music this loud. A deep Sigh came from Ky as he stood. Pacing back and forth he tried his best to block out the noise, but he just couldn't. He walked out his door and to the neighbor's house. It would be a miracle if they could hear his knock over this music. "Hello! Hello!" His head was now killing him. Ky was sensitive to noise, touch or anything like that. That's why he always thought something was wrong with him. As far as he knew though, he was only human.
The knock made Lyra groan, thinking it was another druid or warlock coming to sell her something, "For the last time I don't want your mushrooms, fungi or any plant of the sort. If I wanted to buy some I'd get it off of Arindia-" She stopped when she opened the door, ".com…" She trailed off at the sight of.. Ky, yeah, the detective at her doorstep.
"Your music is giving me a headache could you please-." Ky opened his eyes, keeping his hand on his head. It's that girl. He sighed and dropped his hand to his side. "I'm trying to think, so I'd appreciate it if you could turn down your music." Ky got a glimpse inside her house and saw many things a witch would own. A witch huh? He wasn't too surprised, she seemed like she was human. Or at least full human.
Lyra sighed and shrugged, narrowing her eyes when he noticed him looking at her things, “If you want a closer look at my things you could just ask and not stare. And I don’t care if you’re trying to think, I’m trying to chill and my music is helping,”
She huffed, crossing her arms. A deep laugh was heard behind them and Lyra turned slightly to glare at her cat.
"Yes, well my job is actually helping society," he looked at her things once again, "I don't have time to sit around and play with magic. So if you don't turn it down, I'd have to warn you, I'm extremely close with the police department." He showed her a fake smile. "Have a nice day." He was going to walk off, that was until he saw a note on her door step. He bent over and picked it up. "This seems to be for you." Agter that is when he walked to the house next door and closed the door behind him.
Lyra flipped him off as he left, glaring at the door and retreating back inside her own home, note in hand, “Close with the police department whatever asshole…” She mumbled, flopping down on the couch again. She did turn her music down a little, though before turning her attention to the note.
(The figured the note could say something like "you're next." Just so she gets wrapped up somehow.)
Ky was thankful she turned down her music. When he could think again, he went to his drawing board. Who could it be? Looking through all his pictures, none of them seemed to have any connection. So did that mean he or she just started. How long have they been planning this. And why him. Well, right now none of that mattered. All he needed to do was play the game and catch the person, before they kill again.
The note sent shivers down Lyra's spine. She frowned. Was this a prank? Was Ky trying to scare her? She jumped up from her couch yet again, grabbed her wand and rushed out her house and went next door, pounding on Ky's door, "Oi asshole! Open up!"
The pounding on the door made Ky want to punch something. Was a little peace so hard to ask for? Standing, he tried to calm himself as he walked to the door. He opened it with a sigh and saw it was the girl from next door. "Can I help you?" It was impossible to hide the irritation from his tone. Ky couldn't handle this girl, no more like he just straight up didn't like her.
Lyra held up the note and pointed to it with her wand and then pointing the wooden stick at Ky, “Was this you? Is this a prank or some sick joke?” She raised a brow and crossed her arms, huffing.
"No, this," he gestured between them, "must be the joke." How could she blame this on him, they just met, there was no need to prank her. "I'm sorry. But I don't know what you are even talking about. So, if you don't mind." He started to shut the door but it wouldn't close.
Lyra smirked, “You’re working the Anne Becker case. You know I have ties with her but there’s no need placing a note at my door threatening me.” She kept her wand up. Clearly her spell was working if the door wasn’t shutting.
"I don't go around threatening people. So leave me alone." He tried the door, but still it wouldn't close. As he tried to get rid of her his phone rang. It was probably another case, which is more important than this. He dug it out of his pocket and answered. "Hello." A voice was heard on the other side. He was explaining what the murder was like. "I have to go so move." Ky damanded as he hung up his phone.
"Tell me why you put the note on my door and I will." Yes, yes Lyra was a stubbon prick, she knew it, too but she was emotionally unstable as well and that combination was not good. Not for her, away. She furrowed her brows, tightening her grip on her wand.
Ky slammed his hand on his door and leaned down to Lyra's height. "I don't have time for you." His eyes were cold, almost as if he weren't human. Pushing the girl aside, was easier than trying to go against her magic and shut the door. Plus he had somewhere to be. A small cafe across town was attacked. Some dead, but most were injured. Was this the same person? "I have more important things to do."
"I want to tag along," Lyra replied, following behind him though she had to speed walk to keep up, "If you didn't send the note then who did? Why threaten me? Maybe whoever sent the note was the same person who killed Anne." Yeah, she was smart when she wanted to be.
"Doubtful. Anne was murdered yes, but the killer I'm after didn't do it." Ky was to busy thinking, to really care about her following him. "The police will deal with Anne's killer. I have bigger fish to catch." Ky decided to walk to the crime scene. He had a car, and a motorcycle, but always preferred walking. A cafe with tons of deaths, he wasn't sure if that was his guy, but it was worth looking into. "I don't know who sent you that note, but I'll look into it."
A smile tugged at Lyra's lips but it faded soon enough, "Thanks… I guess…" She placed her wand in her pocket with her phone, making sure it was secure. if she lost it she didn't know what she'd do, "So… have any clues on who this 'bigger fish' of yours is?"
"No, not yet. But they obviously know who I am, and want to test me." Ky thought to his father, but it couldn't possibly be him since he's in prison. And the last thing he want to do is see him, but he might have too. To find a criminal you must think like a criminal. Once he arrived at the scene people whispered. Of course there was a note saying that this would continue to happen until he found them. One thing that they all had in common, was the way they died. Slit throats. And Ky's name carved into their skin. It sicked him to see this, but he need to examine them closer. "You might not want to see this." He held a hand in front of Lyra, telling her to stay back.
Lyra sighed, "I'm not three, I can stomach things like this." She replied, peering over his arm from a moment, eyes widening before she did as told and stood backwards. Maybe it was a bad idea to get involved with this but it was too late now.
"What do we have." Even though he could clearly see how they died, it was still a good thing to ask, in case he missed something. "Well, as you can see, all throats were slit, and your name has been carved into the skin of all of them." The women looked disturbed. And Ky would be as well, if he hadn't already seen things like this before. He looked back over his shoulder to see how Lyra was holding up, he was glad she did as he said. "Well, theres and even number of males and females in here." So they weren't after any specific gender. "I think I need to visit someone." His father, if anyone could help him, it would be him. "Come Lyra." Ky didn't want the girl to be alone, so for now he would have to keep an eye on her.
