@Wry_Wyvern

Is anyone else here a fan of classical music? My favorite composers are probably Shostakovich, Dvorak and Tchaikovsky- their music is SO GOOD and so fun to play.
Also, there are dozens of instrumental pieces that probably wouldn't be considered "classical" but still deserve love and appreciation. Cough, movie soundtracks- especially John Williams' work.

@ninja_violinist

YES YES YES All of this!!!
John Williams is my absolute hero!! Along with Hans Zimmer, John Powell, Jeremy Zuckerman, David Arnold (and more, movie composers are the best)
So you're a fan of the Romantic composers? Tchaikovsky is definitely among my top favorites too, and Dvořák's Humoresque is absolutely gorgeous. I personally enjoy the works of Saint-Saëns (Danse Macabre), Beethoven, and Brahms.
Which instrument do you play?

@Becfromthedead group

You called?
I play classical piano, so that’s kind of why I like this kind of music. Chopin is my favorite composer, but I also really like Khatchaturian and Stravinsky. Beethoven has also been a favorite since I was young.

OMG I HAVE FOUND MY CALLING
Anyway, the name's Annie, and I play the violin and piano (7th position is a b*tch)

Some of my fave pieces are Jupiter from the Planets by Gustav Holst, Nocturne Opus 9 No. 2 by Chopin, and the Mendelssohn Violin Concerto in E minor (second mvmt, since SEVENTH POSITION OVERLOAD in the first mvmt).

My favorite composer is probably Mahler (SYMPHONY NO 5 is AWESOME) and maybe Dvorak, though I also like Brahms.

Edit: OMG I COMPLETELY FORGOT ABOUT THE BRUCH VIOLIN CONCERTO, THE THIRD MVMT IS AWESOME!

@Wry_Wyvern

I have found my people!
I play the French horn, but since I'm not first chair I don't get any of the beautiful lengthy solos (not that I could play them well anyway) and my parts are either super fun, really boring and in a high range, or nonexistant.
@ninja_violinist I haven't heard most of the movie composers you mentioned, but I am in the process of looking them up.
I also do love Beethoven, Mahler, Brahms, and Holst (@ladyawesome, YES. Jupiter is amazing. I got to play it last year.) And I completely forgot to mention Frank Ticheli… His work is all over the place in terms of style and I love it all.

Deleted user

I bet that's hard. What's your favorite instrument to play?

Deleted user

I always kinda wanted to learn guitar but I never got to it, IDK if i wanna start now tho bc learning instruments takes dedication and I already have two obsessions lol

Deleted user

What kind of stuff do you play? is it only instrumental or do you do a wide range of stuff

Deleted user

OHHHH SNAP i love Coldplay!!! I think that if I were to get into guitar I would play stuff like that, maybe OneRepublic or Vance Joy. I don't usually listen to classical music tho, the instrumental that I stick with is more of Cinematic stuff
