I’m just bored so what are your pet peeves when reading a story/book/fanfic/comics?
Or even things you wish future authors would start doing better?
Mine is bad romantic subplots. I just hate forced relationships without any evidence to support that they truly love each other rather then just plot reasoning.
Me too! And when they spell things wrong. That drives me crazy. Or bad grammar.
Or when fanfic writers don’t use paragraphs, that just makes it so much harder to read.
Absolutely. Or when fanfic writers make all those announcements about their private life or something at the beginning of each chapter.
I don’t mind that as much considering that it’s easy to skip over. I only truly care if I’m waiting for a new chapter to come out or not, but I see how it can be annoying to most people.
Yeah. I never read them, but it annoys me. I also hate it when fanfic writers are writing a really good story and then they stop because they get bored of it.
Or when you read an unfinished fic that someone wrote in like 2016 and know it’s never gonna update.
Reading a story where people don’t use any grammar. Or when they don’t capitalize anything, that’s a major turn off for me in reading and RPing. It makes everything seem so flat.
Also it just makes it hard to read in general. I can handle a misspelling here and there but not the whole thing
One of my favorite authors wrote a book set in the 1800s and there were no quotation marks. I love all of her books but I just couldn't read that one.
Ooh I hate it when people do ' instead of ". Like IDK why but it just irritates me so f*cking much! I can't stand it!
Y/N/2nd person stories. Sometimes, but rarely are they ever good. And they're almost only romance stories with every single trope and cliche put into one story.
I’ve read one book that’s kinda second person and still one of my favourite books ever! It’s called “The Art of Starving” by Sam j Miller. The main character isn’t exactly talking to the reader but it’s still one of my favourite books AND it’s does have romance but it’s pretty realistic.
When the POV shifts in a book. I'm not talking going from character to character, I mean going from 1st person to 3rd person
I’ve read some fics like that and OH BOI is it irritating, especially when the actual content is so good😔
I mean sometimes the shifts are okay, but yeah most of the time it's just confusing and annoying as hell
