hello dear nerds! please use this space to talk about the writing projects you're working on at this very moment. plot, characters, symbolism, and general ~vibes~, i'd love to hear what everyone is working on right now, and i'm sure a lot of other people on the site would be interested to read others as well!
I'm working on a sort of crime au thing but I'm STUCK.
I need two characters to spend more time together and as they're going to kidnap someone that will be their opportunity to do so. BUT I'm not sure how they're going to pull off said kidnapping OR how exactly they are going to interact.
SO I am still allowing this to form in my head, meanwhile the whiteboard where I put my idea bubbles is making me look like a kidnapper.
oOOooOoh sounds like a lovely time but i'm also excited about the whiteboard w the idea bubbles?? cause, like, i have not encountered a single writer who uses a whiteboard and i quite love the concept
To be honest it's empty half the time but very helpful, especially as I can color-code things with my markers.
I usually take pictures of whatever I've written on it before I erase just in case I want to go back as well.
neat!! you should post a picture to this thread, if you'd like.
I would but I'm not entirely sure how :/
well dang i'm probably the only other person on this site who doesn't know how. what a fun coincidence. anyway, i'd love to hear more about your story!
Haha I thought I was the only one too!
As for my story… It's kind of confusing but here's the gist:
My mc, Kiyo, is an assassin who "belongs" to the younger brother of a mafia boss, Hyushi. Their relationship is the confusing part (lovers/friends/owner/captive) and basically Kiyo falls in love with someone else. He's an unlucky fellow, my dear Kiyo Not sure what happens after that but we'll see. Hyushi will NOT like it.
oh that's a lovely idea! what's the setting?
Urban. I'm not sure what city though. It's probably gonna be NYC but I'm not sure.
I hope you like hearing about fanfiction because buddy oh boy that might just be all I'm doing
So uh. Right now I'm working on a couple. One is a Pokemon XYZ anime crossover with My Hero Academia and I've been lacking a lot of motivation on that one, honestly no idea if I'll ever get it done but y'know…it's there. Waiting. Patiently.
My other project is a Zelda fic. It's pretty self-indulgent. Basically I told my friend that I was playing Breath Of The Wild(I have played exactly two Zelda games, BOTW included, beaten neither of them, and read one of the mangas so obviously I'm super qualified, not said sarcastically at all) and she was like "yo have you made an OC yet?" then went on about her OC and I was like "y'know what I'm gonna do it". So I made an OC and filled my fic with headcanons and AUs and you know what? It's not gonna be the best but I'm writing it for m e so yeah, I guess.
no i love this!! writing mild self insert fan fiction in worlds you love is peak self care and i am here for it if you're writing just for ""quality"" and that bs you're doing it wrong! your project sounds wonderful and i'd love to hear about your ocs
Yesyesyes!
You should always write for you because then it's going to end up being a chore rather than a hobby.
ALSO this sounds amazing.
I'm glad you're interested! And it's not self-insert(not that there's anything wrong with that), just making a character and yeeting her into the story.
I guess I'll put it here then, since that's the title of the thread? I'm definitely pretty self-conscious about it because I guess I'm worried about people perceiving my ideas as stupid but fuck it I'm gonna do it. Uh, spoilers for BOTW by the way, if you haven't played the game yet and/or just want to avoid them.
So her name is Acadia, and the first major diversion from the BOTW canon is that she grew up in a small community on the Great Plateau, formed when a bunch of people fled the Calamity to there with the thought process of "higher equals safer". She's overall a really kind person and pretty friendly, if anxious at first. She's also pretty naive and gullible, but her heart's in the right place. Acadia is also sort of an "animal whisperer" and ends up getting a fox "sidekick" eventually(he's a little shit but he's her little shit). I was thinking about doing what my friend did and giving her some special "fourth piece of the Triforce, representing kindness" but idk anymore because that'll probably be pushing it a little too far? Anyway she ends up meeting Link when he wakes up on the Great Plateau and, upon discovering that he's a chaotic dumbass who's apparently destined to save the world but might do something stupid and get himself killed along the way, decides that she's going to tag along and try to do whatever she can to help. And Good Guy!Ganondorf is gonna be there too because I saw fanarts of him and I am weak but I can discuss that later if you guys are still interested in hearing about this.
Sorry it took a while to put that together, that's the most I've shared about this story with other people and I second-guessed myself a lot.
I've recently started thinking Very Seriously (as in, having my thoughts drift to it during the scarce free moments while I work on my finals) about Azure Expanse, which is a sci-fi story about spaceship dragons and their "riders" - people who can control/pilot them. Originally there was supposed to be some kind of war, dragons were basically sentient gunboats, and riders were mostly mercenaries. Lately I just…don't really think it's about war, though? Even before the whole coronavirus thing, it was a story about the isolation of space, and now lately I've been really making it about the isolation of space.
I've been turning around the idea that there might still be some kind of armed conflict as well as some kind of…contagion? alien/synth infiltration? that makes people distrustful of each other on top of the various war factions. Maybe that's a little too on-the-nose though.
When I can't figure out the Serious Logistics of it all, I imagine the main character using the computer on their dragon-ship to play video games, and that feels nice.
cloudy, that really sounds sweet and lovely! i haven't played any of the zelda games (tragically) but it really sounds like a fun exploration of the world. way to write what makes you happy!
and urby, just like??? the aeshtetics of that idea??? impecible. perfect. little character on little ship with their little computer playing video games and being happy in the lonely vast of space?? i'm dying it's perfect and i wish you the best of luck in writing it!
wow that was a proper spelling of aesthetics, huh
I mean I have written "carvinorous" and stared at it for five minutes wondering why it was underlined
I would but I'm not entirely sure how :/
If you use google you can upload a pic into your google drive. From there, select the pic(s) you want to share, and create a link to them. Then you can paste the link here.
Thank you! I will definitely try this when I'm actually allowed to be awake lol.
That is, if you still want to see my whiteboard :)

EDIT/ADDENDUM: This thread is quite helpful as well! You're welcome!
Oh, I'm not too sure about "happy in space" - one of the scenes that I've written that I like the most is the main character having a breakdown over trying to balance her budget with all of her living expanses and an intended upgrade for her dragon. (She tries to eat only every 15 hours to spend less on food, which I cannot recommend even if I have done it.) However, the times where she can play games with her dragon are definitely my favorite scenes.
Also, I totally didn't see Cloudy post there, but I am definitely interested in knowing more about this project! I, too, have been charmed by Good Guy, Rehydrated Ganondorf.
Honestly it's more of a "what if there was a Gerudo king born during the Calamity and what would his reaction to it be" thing that spitballed into the character he is now. He's named Ganondorf because at this point I'm just assuming it's some kind of tradition? Kind of like I'm guessing it's tradition to name the Hylian princess Zelda because there's so damn many of them. But rehydrated Ganon definitely had something to do with it lmao
