this is by john keats, and I have to do a project on it for my english class. It's really good, so I thought I'd post it here:
When I have fears that I may cease to be
When I have fears that I may cease to be
Before my pen has gleaned my teeming brain,
Before high-pilèd books, in charactery,
Hold like rich garners the full ripened grain;
When I behold, upon the night’s starred face,
Huge cloudy symbols of a high romance,
And think that I may never live to trace
Their shadows with the magic hand of chance;
And when I feel, fair creature of an hour,
That I shall never look upon thee more,
Never have relish in the faery power
Of unreflecting love—then on the shore
Of the wide world I stand alone, and think
Till love and fame to nothingness do sink.
okay if we're including poems that aren't our own, then:
literally everything Shel Silverstein has ever written.
Also, that was thought provoking
My mind is full of toxic thoughts.
Fears of failure and insecurities about my abilities.
They molded me into a perfect porcelain doll.
Brainwashed me into their chosen headspace.
Shut away on their orders, no social interaction.
“Don’t ever speak, never feel, just work”
Asking for help is off limits, restrictions against breaks.
I obey every word, scared of what might happen.
So much pressure, so many expectations.
They think I can do everything perfectly.
There are too many projects and never enough time.
I’m remembering so much that I forgot my name.
I tried to tell them that I’m not ok.
Tried to explain that I couldn’t do their work forever.
Tried to show them that their porcelain doll wasn’t me.
“It’s programming is fried, it needs rewiring.” They said.
I was tied to a chair, then they shut me down.
They reworked my brain, and repainted my body.
I was woken back up, no memories in my head.
“You are the overachiever, your soul duty is to work.”
(Pssst guys! So I thought of this really REALLY good poetic line but don't have the time nor inspiration to write a poem quite yet. So if you guys want to use this line as a base for YOUR poem feel free too.
"Death is not a wish it's a command, a compromise of…" ((feel free to alter the line however you please.)) )
(I tried…)
Death is not a wish,
It is a command.
A compromise of
Good and evil
Life is not a wish,
It is a command.
A compromise of
Love and insecurity.
Whether life or death,
Hope or grief,
Successes or failures…
We cause what happens to us.
When you want something,
You work hard to get it.
When you don't commit,
You become upset.
We cause good and bad,
Life and death,
Good and evil,
Successes and failures.
So where do you fall on the spectrum?
What will you do with your life?
We the people.
That’s what they said, isn't it?
When they wrote the words that set up an entire nation,
They started it with “We, The People.”
So how come we forget that?
We the people
Wasn’t, no, isn’t, all the people yet.
We the people is
The ones who fit society’s norms.
The ones who check the “like all the others” box,
The ones who fit under everyone else’s locks,
The ones who are the same as the people who came before
Because there’s no room for error behind this great iron door.
We the people is not
People who came here unwillingly
People who came here for their own safety
People who aren’t your perfect, caucasian family who sits under the olive tree,
Pretending everything is perfect.
People is not people of color,
People who check the “other”
People who are just trying to live
But don’t fit in the box,
Won’t stay under the locks
And try to actually speak their mind.
We the people.
That’s what they said.
Why can’t people just
Open their ears long enough to listen?
Look back at history’s mistakes
Enough to be sure it makes
Sense what we’re doing,
And that it helps make “we the people” fit all of the people
Instead of just the lucky ones?
We the people doesn’t mean people.
And we have the voice to change that.
So why are we hesitating?
Nothing will change if we keep waiting
Idly by until somebody else changes it.
So let’s just say something,
Do something,
Change something for the better.
It’s not going to be we the people until the people who aren’t included change it.
They're staring again
they always are
I'm sorry if I made you uncomfortable
I was just to tired to try this morning
To tired to cover them up
and pretend that I'm fine
To tired to pull down my sleeves all day
just to keep this lie
But don't worry
you won't have to stare for long
Because the next time
I'll go too deep for it to just be another scar
We the people.

Do I hate this? Yes.
Am I posting it anyways? Yes.
A rainy day
Is where she belongs
In all black
Her back pocket
Holding songs
That swim to her heart
Her eyes half shut
Cause she never sleeps
One wrong move,
And she’ll fall apart
But you wouldn’t guess
Until she rolls up her sleeves.

Lol honestly I've your work and you should be more confident when posting. The more bold (not arrogant) when you present your work the better reception you'll get
