In one of my stories I'm stuck trying to get my character into the world and get her information she'll need in order to get things moving. But half of the information is classified, and I'm not sure how else she'd be able to get it without anyone telling her. I've tried other ways like making her find out on accident, or just being curious, but it doesn't really work with her personality, or make the story work. Is there anything else I can do?
If her personality is wrong so she wouldn't have this information should she really be your protagonist? At least initially. Could these events in your story be experienced by someone on the sidelines who happens to be front row to a lot of things without being a mover and shaker?
You could have a sort of sidekick, or "man on the inside", if you will. They could sneak her the information. If not, you could have her team up with someone knowledgeable about the world who can keep her on the right track. That way she can still do what you need her to do. Would that work?
Maybe you could have her do something or be someone that forces people to give her access to the info. Like if someone who had access realizes that she needed all the info, so he fights for her access to the info. Or she could just fight for access herself, and try to prove why she needs it. But I don't know if your story would have the people who could grant her access as bad guys, good guys, people that she can even talk to, or anything like that. I just kind of think that just being curious isn't enough to get access to classified info. Or by accident.
