Does anyone else make one joke, and then it becomes an ongoing joke? Like it doesn't matter what story you're writing, if you can reference it, you will? Or, maybe your stories make small references to each other or your real life. Or, maybe there's a concept all your stories share.
My favorite of mine is Jess Christy. My parents are religious and hated it when I would say "Jesus Christ", so I created my own female version. They have no idea that it's my replacement for the name. Now, certain characters in different books will say it instead of "oh my god" or "my lord".
I have a friend who's always talking about Christy. (Pronounced like "Christ" but with an "ee" sound at the end). But then, he's very strange. He's also trying to convince me and my other friends that he is both vegan and Jesus when he is in fact neither.
Oh. XD Excuse me for laughing a bit, please.
I don't have any inside jokes in there YET. But I promised my hilarious sister that I'd name a character Steve… even though that name would definitely not fit the era. XD It'll be great, I'll find a way.
not quite an inside joke, but there was a time when i wanted to include the name quinn in all my stories. i still might.
That's cool, and Quinn is a really neat name. It's not exactly the same, but mo go to name for a new character is some form of May.
One of my favourites is "pulling a [name that has to do with the colour gold]", which is usually a stand in for doing something recklessly, stupidly dangerous and somehow coming out of the situation with no harm to their person. Based, of course, on one of my friends who's somehow still kicking despite all these crazy situations.
@FantaPop Your friend sounds great XD
I have a friend, who in the middle of a conversation with absolutely no context, will shout "You can't do that I'm a libra," as loud as he possibly can. My other friend can put his leg behind his head, so at school whenever teachers will come up to us to chat in the library - because we are all nerds - he will casually put his leg behind his head mid-conversation and continue as if nothing is wrong. My friend group is kind of like the cool table at the insane asylum XD.
XD My friend table is kind of the populars of the unpopulars. We all just kind of plot "murder". Yours sound much more exciting.
The only joke I've really made is having my character, who has never broken the fourth wall before, talk to the reader. He interrupted a fight scene to tell the reader that they were never going to know exactly what happened because he was ashamed of what he did. It was received better than what I expected and I love it
I made the protags of act 1 in my fanfic have an annoying roommate, the annoying roommate symbolizing a kid on Discord who I find extremely annoying.
