Whether it be a flowing river, a powerful waterfall, a steaming shower, any type of water whatsoever…how would you describe it in your writing?

Mio

It was warm, but where it left trails was cold. There wasn't a lot of it, though it could complete cover my hands in a matter of seconds. It falls in perfect droplets. It's salty, like an ocean. But, it's really tears.

@Masterkey

(Just as a side note: I don't believe in describing everything in detail all the time everywhere, because I think it makes the writing feel cheesy, and makes me think the author is trying too hard. Sometimes "flowing river" will suffice, especially if the river is unimportant to the story/plot.)

Here's how I would describe a river:

"I finally saw a better view of the Lilith River as I climbed to the top of a hill by its banks. It stretched lazily as far as I could see to my left and right, straight like a highway, wide as the entire palace grounds at the capital. It seemed relaxed and easy-going at first glance, flowing like it had all the time in the world. I looked down at its rocky shore and noticed that the bank was very shallow for several feet. The water was clear there, the colorful pebbles distorted beneath a sheet of flowing glass. As my eyes inched their way along to the middle of the Lilith, the water became brown and cloudy, flowing more quickly. I imagined what it would be like to swim to the center, wondering if the calm river would feel like the churning monster that it actually was once I reached the middle current. I shuddered and looked away, toward the now-setting sun, the river shining orange and pink and red where they met. The Lilith felt alive, it felt like a monstrous, breathing snake; and yet it felt safe and warm when I gazed at the glowing horizon."

Idkk water is a big part in my story so i'll try and give you an example

The water rushed downstream fast, puling everything it touched along with it. You would think a river this beautiful couldn't be dangerous, but the second it got you, you were a goner.

The droplets of water sparkled effortlessly on the grass in the rising sun. It reflected the morning light like stars in the sky in the dark. The smell was fresh as you'd expect as the Earth had just been cleansed.

I watched the water topple off the edge of the cliff and fall elegantly into the pond at the bottom. The second it hit the water most was being flung into the air with much force and hitting anything within range. The sound was quite loud but the cascading water pulled me in anyways. It was surrounded by trees the size of houses, and dense undergrowth that could be hiding animals as I watched. The flowers looked tropical and in sorted areas as if someone had specifically planted them there.

@Masterkey

Well next time it rains, go outside and get yourself soaked! Start thinking about how it feels, how it sounds, what words you'd describe it with, yada yada yada. Or do you mean someone literally taking a shower…?

@remarkab.le

@Masterkey Literally taking a shower, it's a rough concept to explain and next time a take a shower (later today) I guarantee I will be thinking about it. But I want to hear your opinion!! She got in a fight with her mom, she only gets four minutes of water for showering and one for anything else she may need to do. She is the oldest child in her house and is giving herself a lot of responsibility to try and help her mom. If all that was going on in your life, what would stand out to you while you shower? Could it be the way the water moves down the wall, the fact that the glass no longer gets covered in steam like it did back when you had warm water? Let me know what you're thinking :)

@Celestial-B

Hmm Ima try something lol

I turned the handle to my shower knowing that this would not be as welcoming as my last one, and listened to the hiss of fresh water spill out of the head. The icy water hit me like a brick and I jumped forward, trying to get out of its path. I forced myself back into the stream telling myself that I had to get it over and done with. The droplets trickled down me soaking every part of my body and wetting my hair. After a moment, the warm water began to fall sending chills down my spine and I relaxed letting it absorb into my skin. I let my thoughts take over and automatically began my shower routine. How unfair was it that I only got this much time to take a shower? Not enough time to think, not enough time to unwind. And the way my mom was acting? Definitely not cool. Does she not know how much I care for her and want to be the best for her and my siblings? "Obviously not," I told myself aloud. Tilting my head back to wash the soap out of my hair, I stared at the ceiling. My eyes trailed down then to the wall and I watched some of the droplets slide down the wall. "Unfair."

Idk this just came to my mind and I just spattered random junk down lol.
