or what other kinds of celebrations (aside from birthdays) do people in your world have?
i really only have something called star day celebrations (which is touched on in the third book). it's more than a birthday, because to fairies and celestial fairies especially, it celebrates the day when they were sort of blessed by the stars and given their name. kind of like a mix between a birthday and a name day celebration.
All but two of my countries celebrate Queen's Day, its a huge deal, its a party that last over 24 hours, there's a little bit of everything, bonfires, festivals, games, unhealthy foods, dancing, feasts, singing, throwing money at strangers etc.
The main holiday in my world is celebrating the day the first spaceship was launched, and this same day was the death of Princess Maeeda. So they celebrate (or mourn) by signing a wall in the spaceship that is the last remaining wall of Princess Maeeda's room. There are over 900,000 signatures from people and elves that have traveled in that spaceship over the years.
Hmm. Interdiim. The middle day of the year. Not a huge deal, but observed.
There are the Birth Vigils. Pretty much all the close people are invited to stay up all night (or all day). They wait quietly and talk softly until the birth is announced. Then everyone gets loud and starts feasting and swear that they will look after the child.
There is the Feast of Harvest. Pretty simple stuff. Roasting of a deer, early apples. That sort of thing.
A festival that comes around every 5 years or so, they all make big vats of pudding then run around the streets throwing it at each other. By the end of the day its a huge sticky delicious mess.
I feel like that would be hell to clean up.
In one of my worlds, some people can transform into dragons. These people essentially celebrate two birthdays: the day they were born (obviously) and the day they first transformed (called their "turnday")
In my world, one of the kingdoms celebrates the Eclipse Festival, which lasts about a month. Every 5 years, when they have a solar eclipse, they celebrate with dancing, music, food, all sorts of stuff. Everyone loves it. They also have Yulemas, their version of Christmas, but I'm considering getting rid of it.
The solstices and equinoxes are a big deal in my world, and they're each celebrated by a week of games and sports, similar to the Olympics.
Milaka is the main character here!
She grew up in Mt. Howend. A very festive place where the day and night go by and it's all festivities. There's not a time of day or night where there's no one out side. Because everyone is so crowed together, it's become tradition that everyone is clean is healthy. So much so to the point there is 20 or less cases of the cold each year. Because they eat lots of hard to chew foods, they had developed teeth to help them chew raw meat and bones and they won't get sick.
All of that aside.
They have 1 main festival between spring and summer called: Flores en llamas
It means Flowers on fire. When this takes place, usually in may. All members must attend but it's fun so they don't mind. You'd arrive 5 minutes before the song starts and by that time all stations are set up. At each station theirs food before and during the dances. When starting station 1, 3-6 people will go into the field and do a certain dance and then add their own in the end. Lasts about 10 minutes but it's so nice. Afterwards everyone runs in a group to the next, kids usually get there first but probably for the food. The 4-8 people enter the next feild do half of the traditional dance and then add their own at the end. This lasts about 7 minutes. Then…
You guessed it!
They all run in a group to the next station, this time 10-15 people get in the field and do their very own dance but it must match the songs beats. After the dances it's a festival of games and more food and at around 3 in the morning Fireworks go off and theirs a lot of noise. Then it will go quiet and you will see everyone very excited. Everyone gets in position and there is a photographer (as been the same family of photographers for generations :D) As the last fire work goes off it spells out 'FLORES EN LLAMAS' and everyone screams it. After wards the picture is hung up on the generations wall to see how the town has grown each year. It's a very wonderful celebration taht everyone enjoys and Ima enjoy animating it :D
