I'm a but stumped on adding some more detail to my plot and I realized I don't really have any subplots. So what are your favorite subplots to read or write in preferably a fantasy or sci-fi setting?

Some random ideas:
- learning a new skill or language
- bonding with a child
- a rivalry
- bonding with a pet
- reconciling with estranged family members
- visiting old friends
- exploring a new home
- healing from a big injury
- doing research or reconnaisance
- inventing something new
- teaching someone else a skill
- spying on someone suspicious/trying to solve a mystery
- losing a mentor figure
- coping with a new job or assignment
whatever fits with and moves along the plot you have, I guess
