okay so in my story there is an apocalyptic type world war. at the end of the war, all the remaining civillians from every country who aren't too poisoned by radiation to be around convene on the one part of the world that isnt completely destroyed and will fit everyone.
the question is, do the countries segregate themselves??? would people from different countries live in different areas, like san francisco, or would they all intermingle to try and have peace and unity??????
would segregation between the countries happen naturally or??????
Probably it would be a mix. Some people would hold onto their countries to the point of fighting people from enemy countries, and the others would be too intent on surviving to care.
I think it also depends on the culture originally. People from countries that value family above all else might stick together more because any refugees from their own countries they will probably see as some form of family they'll need to protect and support.
Countries that value privacy and individualism might not be as attatched to their own countrymen, but also be hard to get to know/live with in general because they know what they want and will only let people they deem worthy closer.
Countries where respect is the most important i imagine might feel more comfortable around their own countrymen, seeing as these people live by the same rules and traditions, but also seem like people who might be easier to convince to give people from other nationalities mire of a chance to mingle so long as their rules for respect are held and regarded.
The reality is that it's always easiest to stay with those who understand your thought process and language, but in situations of extreme stress and pain, these borders become less and less important as we move to what connects us all: love, pain, suffering and joy. These are things every human can understand. They transcend culture and language. So i dunno-
Segregation seems like something people would do to make it easier to deal with the aftermath of war and radiation, but trying for unity would be proof of true growth after such a war and a desire for peace. So whichever one you chose, there will be conflict, just for different reasons, whether it be because they refuse to try to work together with pelople from other cultures or because they are trying too hard to work well together and keep having to find compromises that leave no one happy.
I apologize for this rambly mess, i hope its still somehow helpful (and still relevant, seeing as you started the chat in january)
