I created this discussion because I find it fun to critique others, and have others critique me! We can critique anything you post. Just please no overly insulting comments. You can say someones idea is bad, but you should also add advise to help them make it better.
Overall, it seems very fleshed out for what you have. Of course, the missing parts are still being worked on, but what you have is very good! I never thought of the idea of predatory plant-people, though maybe you could base them off of carnivorous plants? Venus flytrap mouths, trumpet bell stomach acid, digestion takes a very long time, etc. What do they smell like? Do they have various scents for different purposes? Can they communicate in this way?
Yamatsu, thank you for your critique. I will consider adding scents, and a special digestion track to my race.
As for your city, I found it very detailed and impressive. One thing I noticed in its founding story was when they found water they later built an outpost there. But you also said they were lost. So how did they find the place after being lost? Maybe they built a landmark to find it later? It's probably no big deal, but I figured I should point it out anyways.
I noticed something wonky with your city's economy. Their only real export is sand, but most everything has to be imported. So unless sand is super valuable their economy should have collapsed. With no jobs why haven't people left? Better yet, why did they go their in the first place? I know you mentioned the city is near a trade route, but it doesn't seem like enough to sustain 30,000. I don't know what you want to do with your city, but this site might help. https://bizfluent.com/list-6834001-resources-do-deserts-.html It's a website on the natural resource commonly found in deserts.
One last thing you never mentioned atmosphere. When you walk through the city what emotions are stirred up? Is everything colorful with smiling faces everywhere. Or do you see crumbling walls, locked doors, and gray uncaring eyes?
Other than that it's a well thought out and intriguing city. Good work, I look forward to seeing the finished product.
Thank you very much! I didn't think about what other exports would be common, so I will need to do a bit more building, especially as to why so many people came there.
