So I'm writing a book where the main character is a demon king, but I'm not sure how to introduce his most significant powers without overwhelming the readers. He has:

  • The ability to boost his jump height with magic (kind of like a double or triple jump in a video game)
  • Shapeshifting abilities
  • Teleportation (although it's very difficult to do because it takes a lot of energy out of him)
  • Magic radiating from his body that burns people when touched

How would you explain this to your readers in the exposition/rising action?

@Masterkey

WOAH wait how are people going to defeat a guy that radiates death fumes of magic? Just a side question.

I'm thinking you have three choices: not show all of them until the end (which I don't think would be that good), introduce each power when he's NOT in battle (maybe when he's talking to his soldiers, just trying to look intimidating in a meeting, etc), or just introduce each ability in a separate battle.

Well, there are other magical creatures in the story as well. He's going to get into a really intense battle with Lucifer, in which Lucifer cages the main character (Asura) and saps his magical abilities, keeping him prisoner until Asura figures out how to escape.

yee sorry it's not that great of a story but I like it

Yeah, I've been developing it but when I take a step back and really look at it, the overall idea of it is kind of lame

Yeah! Don't say such things! It may seem dull because you've read it thousands of time, to me, it sounded like a really cool plot!

Thanks, lol. The writing style isn't great, but I'm trying my hardest to work on it. I've been doing little practices and games to improve my style, and avoid repetitive words and unnecessary things in my writing.
