"Definitely" He said. "Now we should run. I'll kill my horse and maybe the mom will eat that instead." He broke into a run back up the hill.
"Definitely" He said. "Now we should run. I'll kill my horse and maybe the mom will eat that instead." He broke into a run back up the hill.
Mai followed, glancing back when she heard a loud roar. "Oh my gosh." She muttered, staring at the large Boarbear snuffling around in the rubble. She turned back to Bjor. "I think it's about to realize we're here!" She called to him.
"Let's hope she won't. Also, SHHHHHH!" He whispered, knowing her elf ears could hear him.
Bjorn raised his axe and removed the head of his horse. "Time to go!" he hopped on to Mai's horse and rode down to her.
She jumped on, clutching her daggers, in case she need to throw them. "Let's get out of here." She whispered to Bjorn.
the horse took off, and the village was out of sight within a few minutes. "You never told me where you got such a fast horse." Bjorn said over his shoulder. "I need a new one now, and I'd like one like this."
"Oh…yeah…well, uh…" She said, not wanting to finish.
He looked up at the rapidly descending sun. "Do you think we can make it back to the inn before dark?"
"I'm not sure. Maybe we can get there right at sunset if we go fast enough." She said, looking around. "If we want to get there soon, then we need to go."
"Good idea," He spurred his horse. Mai's horse, mine's dead. He corrected himself.
Once they arrived at the inn, Mai left her horse in the stable, and followed Bjorn up to the room. "So, that was where you lived before?" She asked, setting down her bag.
"Yup, it didn't have much industry, but we made due." He grabbed a glass of ale off the side table and took a long gulp.
he shed his armor and coat, and climbed into bed, only to hop out a few seconds later. "I'll go ask about getting a few extra blankets. It's pretty cold for June wouldn't you say?" He threw his coat back over his shoulder and strolled out of the room.
"Yeah." She said sighing, wondering if she should've told him about her home. She laid down on the other bed, curled up, and pulled the blanket over her, not that it did much to keep her warm.
The door creaked open, and Bjorn stepped in. "They had two blankets, do you want one?" He tossed it at the foot of her bed. "Goodnight." He rolled into bed.
Not two hours later, there was loud shouting downstairs. Bjorn shot up. "Hang tight, I'll go check that out." He stood up.
Mai sat up and watched him leave, saying "Okay." as the door closed. She walked toward the door and grabbed her daggers, in case Bjorn needed help. Then, she waited.
Bjorn reappeared in the doorway. "We have to go. Now." He grabbed his backpack and opened the window. "I don't like the looks of what's down there."
"What is it?" Mai asked, grabbing her bag. "How bad is it?"
"You could call it a riot, but I'm not sure if everyone down there is human. Might be goblins, if those exist." he tossed his bag out the window, and gestured to the opening. "Ladies first."
(If anyone is interested in joining, the more the merrier!)
Mai stepped up to the window, flashing him a quick smile, then jumped out, grabbing onto a tree branch and swinging to the ground. She turned and looked up at him, waiting for him to jump.
Bjorn crawled halfway out of the window. "Man, these aren't made for big-buff-monster-hunters to jump through." He wobbled and fell, landing face first on the ground.
Mai stifled a laugh, and helped Bjorn up. She turned and started walking toward the stable. She looked through the inn's window as she passed. She froze, eyes wide, staring at the tall, muscular man who was standing in the middle of the room. But what most disturbed her was what he was saying. "-so if any of you have seen this elf…" He said, holding up a poster of Mai. "You will be rewarded for telling me her whereabouts." Mai's breathing sped up, and she backed away from the window. She sank to her knees and started muttering to herself. "Oh my gosh. I can't believe this. How did he know I was here?"
"Didn't you say you were a thief before we met? Someone probably saw a wanted poster." Bjorn sucked in a breath. "If Kaine knows what he's doing, he's got a big web of spies. Now let's get our horses."
