I'm super curious.
I'm super curious.
For the main thing I'm writing right now, nobody has any powers. Except for one woman who has something that can't quite be explained by modern science… most people would call it an affinity for technology.
But a book series that I've been mulling over (basically a sort of prequel to the one I'm working on now but not really since it takes place a thousand years earlier) there are special beings with powers everywhere. My main character of that one is chosen to replace one person of a group of three women that are kind of like the Fates. They can see anyone's past present and future (but they can only see about a quarter of all people's ENTIRE past present and future. It's usually a little blurry), they can determine if they'll die good or evil, and they can alter one third of these fates. They live in an old mansion with a huge tower that basically never ends (as high as it is deep), with shelves of orbs that represent a single person. They just can't see their own fortunes (unless one of them glows red, which indicates evil).
Not really UNIQUE, but in a book I'm writing (I'm just going to refer to them by name) Jena can see the future (including her own and the future of other people), but it's usually limited to what is going to happen in the very NEAR future- eventually she also gains the ability to see into other people's pasts too. Wade has impenetrable skin and enhanced strength, Joan has the ability to manipulate flora with her mind, Claire has pyrokenisis, Elle is an empath, Orion is a shapeshifter, and Henry is a technopath. David is a little bit different than the others- he has the ability to 'block' other people's abilities, or stop them from using them. Jena and David have also been physically enhanced in ways that effect their speed, strength, healing, and muscles.
The antagonists of the book have abilities too- one (Damian) can control electricity, and the other (Amilla) is a telepath.
That's cool.
In my first series, there are lots of characters with unusual abilities. For instance, one of the gods, Pappas Orion, can create pocket dimensions where he's omniscient, omnipresent and nearly omnipotent. Lucifer, the Fallen Archangel can corrupt others with his presence, Michael, the Archangel, can purify others with his presence, and he has the ability to create life. But the main character has lots of unusual powers. He can, in emergencies, enhance his already superhuman mental and physical abilities by a 13x-17x multiplier. He has the ability to harm supernatural things with just his bare hsnds, and he has an aura that allows him to nullify and mimic most types of hax powers, for example, after battling a big-ass robot warmachine, there's a sorcerer who tried to catch him off guard and steal his soul (part of the guy's plan, it's complicated…), however, he nullifies the ability for just enough time to where he can mimic it, and steaks the sorcerer's soul himself. This causes probs with his abilities and starts a whole sub-arc.
Does sass count? Cus I got loads of that….
I suppose.
It counts
here are some of my characters' powers…
My protagonist character is ridiculously Lucky, which has a lot of twists in fate, and eventually has him dying and being revived into 6 versions of himself, with each version emanating a slightly different power set: one emanating "evil" which converts everyone around him to the side of the "evil"(but not really) deity of this world, one (still) really lucky, one with healing powers, one who has a constant wealth attraction, one who emanates sickness, much like one emanates "evil", and one emanating death.
Another character can literally only turn his head fully around, like an owl.
A third character brings the dead back to life, but he projects the emotions of those around him onto the dead body, which has some strange effects. For example, he brought his dead fish back to life, who he loved like a child, and the fish came back as a young boy rather than a fish. He's also the one who brought back the protagonist into the 6 forms, as there were 6 people nearby, each with different perspectives on him.
I have a myriad of other characters with powers, but these are the strangest of them.
Nice!
