Is this allowed? I have no idea.
I enjoy discussing this with people, though the people I'm around don't care for it. I don't know a lot, I don't have research to back me up so…
'Nyways, if you can be polite and reasonable, I want to talk!
Mine is ‘Live free, don’t join’ because I can’t stand modern politics. Give me the Election of 1800 over the Election Of 2016 any day.
I lean more towards the Liberal side, bit I'm 3rd party!
honestly idk. if we're choosing between the two big parties i'd say liberal but I disagree with a big chunk of democratic views. i don't really get political parties.
does anyone else find the idea of political parties just plain dumb :// like everyone has different views on a lot of things but they're never exactly the same, so two groups with opposite views on random things doesn't really work, it just divides people in a way that doesn't even matter
@joe_ If you don't fit Democratic, Republican, or any other party's views, that is generally called third party. But I am just giving you advice, not telling you how to think, you do you, bud.
@joe_ Parties are kinda inevitable. Like-minded people stick together and elect like-minded officials. They won't agree on everything, but generally they'll agree on most. In the US it's actually pretty simple: if you're a liberal/Democrat, you prefer the fed government to solve most if not all problems, and you lean toward a more modern interpretation of the Constitution; if you're a conservative/Republican, you lean toward the traditional interpretations of the Constitution and such, and you want a small, limited-in-power Federal Government; if you're libertarian, you just want all governments (local, state, or fed) to just stay out of everyone's business (XD). Basically we ALL agree that there are problems that we want fixed, and we all want our citizens to be happy, healthy, and successful, but we just all disagree on the best way to pass laws to do that.
I'm gonna major in political science/government in college, so I got fired up, hehe.
And I guess you could call my views "Classical Liberal." It's basically a conservative, but really more in the middle of the spectrum.
That's a good way to explain it 'key I'm mostly Liberal in my political views, but I have some Conservative views as well.
Yeah, most people don't side with just one party. I think it's better that way, then we all can find common ground.
For instance. I'm anti gun control. I think that we, the law abiding citizens, need guns to protect us against the criminals who're getting them anyway. I think these people think that taking guns away from everyone but the law, is the answer. But it's not. Because all these bad people are getting guns, whether we like it or not. If we have guns, we can prevent all of these school-shootings and acts of terrorism before they can happen. All the police can do is show up, usually after the crime, maybe catch the suspect, and get everything situated. It's lunacy sometimes.
Did you know that there are six states where teachers are trained in the use of concealed carry-ons and they actually have them on them. There are MINIMAL school shootings in those states. And you can argue this and that, yeah. But what you can't argue with. Are results!
I agree. I think another really important reason that American citizens should be allowed to own guns is because we need to protect ourselves from the government (that includes the military and police, any arm of the government that could use violence to control us). The US is basically ruled by its people, but the moment the people don't have power, the government becomes a tyranny.
That's what I was going to say.
You know they say this is a democracy, and that we have rights, but that doesn't stop them from declaring martial law, and forcing us into something. It doesn't stop police brutality.
True, I agree with all of you. I agree with some Democrat/Liberal views AND Republican/Conservative views. Same for disagreeing.
It's kind of stupid to get split into parties like @joe_ said. But, yeah I get why it happens. @Masterkey explains it very well.
If you had to vote, which side would you/do you usually vote for? Or do you vote for the candidate?
Also, do you think it's our responsibility to vote? Should everyone who has the right to vote, vote?
I personally believe so. If you're a citizen of a democratic country, you have a voice no matter how small it may be. You should utilize this right and do what could be done.
Also, what do you think about third parties? I know a few of you identify as the third party, but in bigger elections, say presidential, third parties don't really end up anywhere…Do you know what I'm saying?
I'd like to say I'm third party but I don't think it helps with anything. You're sort of just standing in the middle or off to the side and not doing anything. Unless a very strong third party shows up, then we all can mobilize. Meanwhile, there's not much we're doing :(
Nobody has rights in the real world nowadays. I mean maybe when things first started everyone was sincere. But now they're a scheme to make people think they have power that they just don't have. And yeah, we do have power. But it's not from our rights, it's because we've got numbers, and options. If one government goes South, we just pour resources into another party and start a new government. We don't have the power to abolish government because we were given that power by the government. We have it because the government needs us.
I'm 3rd. And I agree with you, we won't get anywhere because we all don't agree, we're to individual!
Action or C'est la vie? I mean, what is there that we can do if we don't really have rights?
Turn to another party besides the one that has control and pour resources into it until one of two things hsppens.
- The party in control does what we want to some extent to avoid being usurped.
- The new party takes over, and I know thsdt sounds Naszi-ish, but well, I'd rather sound like a Nazi and work to the benefit of everyone around me, than to sound politically correct or whatever and let bad things happen. And hey, at least we would let this party take over and be okay with it, rather then them using dirty tricks and such like the ACTUAL Nazis.
(Too edgy?)
I usually vote Republican. I think that voting is a privilege because not everyone in the world gets to vote, but more importantly it's a responsibility since as the people, WE are the true rulers of America. That's our responsibility. Couple that with the fact that people fought and DIED for our freedom, and still do fight and die, the responsibility grows.
Third parties are fine, but until both democrat and republican officials alike mess up hella badly, I don't think third party will make it to many big offices.
Also, about what shuriken said about rights, I think rights are something every human being is born with, regardless of what government they're under or what their society recognizes. That's what the Declaration of Independence calls "certain unalienable rights," the rights of life, liberty, and the pursuit of happiness. I also think that at least in America, the people still hold enough power that they could demand real change if they actually cared. If our government is failing, it's not the government's fault, it's the fault of the people who elected those bad officials.
I think we have rights in the government. But not inthe natural world. Just because we're a higher species doesn't mean we have rule over the universe and can just magically create rights for ourselves. Within our own human world, yes, we have rights. But that doesn't stop the government from taking them away. But back to nature. I mean, again, in the natural world, we don't have rights, despite being an advanced species (and yes, we are an advanced species, we have the intelligence and the physique to make things the way they are today), do you think a threatened bear is gonna respect your right to life, or property, or the pursuit of happiness. Hell no.
Basically, in the human world, we have rights, in the natural world, hell no. Now, religiously, that's a different story… But yeah.
Yeah, I agree, I think we only have rights in dealing with each other, really. But I think a bear doesn't recognize rights of anything because it can't even comprehend the concept of "rights." That doesn't mean we don't have rights. If a bear was about to kill your friend, you could kill the bear defending your friend's right to life. And it wouldn't be murder, because the bear doesn't have the same rights we do. Once you murder another human, you've given up your right to life (because you infringed upon someone else's right to life). The bear could technically be born with rights, but once he's killed, he has no rights. Unless we decide that the bear had no rights to begin with. (XD I'm confusing myself now.)
I know, that's what I mean. We don't have rights in the natural world because rights are ASN advanced human concept and nothing else cash understand that.
sorry dudes I have to fundamentally disagree. We need gun control. There's no reason why anyone needs an assault riffle just to "protect yourself". Y'all say a good guy with a gun will stop mass shootings, but u tell that to the people in Vegas. There were armed people there, but they were helpless. Guns in the hands of untrained citizens is dangerous and unethical. This isn't the Wild West.
