I haven't seen it, but it looks like most of the reviews said it was good. The only negative stuff I've seen (which I expected) was that it was a pretty normal teen love story that we've seen before, just with a gay guy. Other reviews said today's teens don't need it as much as they would've ten years ago. I dunno tho since I haven't seen it, what do you think about those things?
I haven't seen it, but critics can miss me with that "teens don't need it now" BS. They need it now more than ever. And not just gay teens, but straight ones, too, to see that it's a normal part of everyday life. It's no Moonlight (which was phenomenal), but there's nothing wrong with having different kinds of gay media. Hopefully this will lead to better movies for the community in general. I'm honestly just happy that it's not another Call Me By Your Name, which was terrible and glorifies unhealthy age gaps, and since LGBT people constantly get stereotyped as inherently pedophilic, it wasn't a good look.
Good point, that makes sense
I don't get the 'gay people are pedophiles'. Just because you like the same gender doesn't mean you automatically like younger people of the same gender.
It ties into the whole "gay people are stealing children away and making them gay" rhetoric. It's homophobic propaganda that is used to make it seem like the LGBT community is predatory. Basically "won't someone think of the children!?", but up to 11.
Also, I forgot to mention that the reason for all of this (besides homophobia of course) is that people insist that being LGBT is inherently sexual, as in, it's all about who you want to have sex with, and as we know, that simply isn't true, or at least not wholly. But if LGBT folks are filthy sex perverts, then the next logical leap is that they prey on children for easy scores, according to this line of thinking.
