Y'all I saw this website where you can get free bracelets and every "purchase" sends proceeds to an organization dedicated to something related to the bracelet(i.e. the anti-terrorism one sending money to the Counterterrorism Institute) and I saw an autism awareness one and was like "Oh hey!! I know people who are on this spectrum and could probably benefit from donations this would give!!"

Turns out it's Autism Speaks. Yikes.

@Shuri-the-Floof-Doggo

Look I can't remember why I just know that they don't really respect folks on the spectrum and too much of their money doesn't go where it's supposed to.
An overwhelming amount goes to catering

only about 1.6% of their budget actually goes towards family services

also this is a bit late but they also tend to portray those with autism to be dangerous and there really isn't any people with autism on their board. i think there's two? and most of their funding goes towards "awareness", lobbying and fundraising. for those who work there, their salaries are far too high considering what goes to family services

They sound like idiots. If autistic kids were dangerous I would know since I have an autistic sibling. The only danger I see autisic kids as being, is the danger of hurting your feelings if you're not used to it, simply because (My sibling specifically, I don't speak for the entire spectrum) they don't always understand exactly what they're saying, or that it can be hurtful.

Agreed!
Speaking from personal experience
There are a lot of things that I come out with, and a lot of the time I don't realise that it has hurt someone until it's too late.
The other day at work I inadvertently upset someone by asking if they wanted to swap what we were doing because they looked like they were stressed. Later on I asked if what I had said had upset them, and they said yes. I immediately broke down into tears because I didn't realise I had upset them, nor had I intended to upset them.

Yep! You have no idea how many of my issues come from me overreacting and thinking on things my autistic sibling has said to me, (It's even worse because they're also super dramatic) and I've even occasionally had breakdowns over it in private because they've said something after a stressful day.

@The-Magician group

Yeah..
I don't think anyone on the spectrum purposely intend to upset anyone by the things they say, but it is a little difficult knowing what other people are sensitive to.
