Peeps–
I'm doing a little social experiment (not really it's a bet against my boss so help me win. I want money.) to see which social media platform is the most popular among the Millennial vs Gen Z generations.
So Just respond with your preferred websites/apps/whatnot and we shall see who is right. Me (obviously) or my Boss (the old wanker).
Also, if you want more followers just add your usernames too!
Here's mine:
Insta: creepie.creature
Tumblr: forever-in-these-days
Pinterest: Eris Woods
snapchat: erisofstrife
Instagram- ella_nutelladraws
(That's all I have but from my experiences with "borrowing" my mom's account, Pinterest is pretty awesome and I'll definitely be getting an account of my own once I'm allowed to. Don't know if that changes anything though)
I don't have much social media due to parental restrictions, but I can quickly rattle of some social media platforms my gen z friends use many times a day. Insta, snap, tumblr, and pinterest are the main ones. :) Although I have plenty of friends who also use facebook and twitter (more millennial ones) and also tiktok, which is a gen z platform that's more rare since it's on the fence between social media and streaming platform.
((I'm loops btw new name lol))
I only have Pinterest (AceOfStardust AceOfStardust) and Goodreads (if that counts lol) but I frequently browse Tumblr and YouTube (Enfys Best, I plan on eventually starting a Booktube channel that will be called Eva With A B tHeRe'S a BeE?!).
Of ones I know people use there's Snapchat, Instagram, not really Facebook besides a very limited amount of kids, TikTok, and Discord (I think that's more Millenial though)
Also Twitter!
One of the 4 horsemen of the apocolypse
Oh yeah, I also have a Discord, and anyone who’s ever spoken to me knows that I have a serious YouTube addiction
Hmmm, well I'm older gen Z (I was born in 1999). I've got Tumblr which I use frequently, and Snapchat, which I only have because someone else forced me to get on. Then I have an account on Pinterest and I use Discord a good bit for gaming stuff like tabletop RPG sessions and minecraft servers, that sort of stuff. I also think I made a YouTube account, but I don't spend much time watching videos on there.
Among people my age, Instagram and Twitter seem to be very popular, as does Snapchat. Pinterest, Tumblr, and Discord are popular among people with specific types of interests I think, whereas the other more "classic" types of social media platforms generally seem more popular.
Also people my age don't seem to like Facebook very much, but I've known a lot of clubs at schools and stuff who have pages on there.
You know I never realized that Tumblr would be so popular. It definitely wasn't that popular a few years ago.
also the growth of youtube never ceases to amaze me
I use discord a bit as well as instagram, same with twitter.
I have an account on pinterest which I use to look at ideas for my art sometimes, used to have imgur but left because I didn't see a use in it anymore. I use youtube a lot and my snapchat exists but I don't use it often. I also have a facebook but it was because i wanted to join "group where we pretend to be boomers" and the "let's rush area 51, they can't stop us all" thing.
Instagram: Wyvern.art.101, _cuba.ball (I'm more active on Wyvern) and Catdragon101
Twitter: Catdragon1011
Snapchat: Ottomeme_empire
Youtube: I'm changing usernames soon, but currently I am "Jeep Wrangler."
Discord: Specs #2078
I'm on a couple different social media sites, but I'm also not super active on a lot of them lol.
Tumblr- I'm atthetopofthestars/ starfast/ halothehorse
Instagram- Not going to give my username, but it's mostly just pictures of my pets :P
Facebook- I go on facebook a lot but I hardly ever post there anymore.
Youtube- My channel is Starfast. Haven't uploaded in a while, but I'm trying to decide what I want to do with my channel (Kinda torn between booktube and spooky/dark stuff. I've thought of possibly doing both, but idk).
Goodreads- Wasn't going to mention it, but since Jynnie brought it up, I'm starfast over there as well.
I'm on Snapchat, Discord, and Pinterest as well, but I don't use them very often.
I wonder if this is just a European thing - but WhatsApp is a Really Big DealTM here (it's literally replaced traditional texting services). Everyone around me has WhatsApp.
I also have Facebook, but mainly to use Messenger. Other than… email, I guess, Facebook is the most common social media that people I know have. But I will say that most people my age use it sporadically and more for the messaging services.
As of a month ago I have an instagram (@semblanceofpenguins) but I was one of the last people in my social circles to get it. I also use Pinterest quite a bit.
Idk I have to say I'm not really into social media very much. I already have to talk to people in real life, dunno why I'd seek that out in my digital life as well haha
I'm not supposed to have social media, but I have a Pinterest and I use it to look at Tumblr stuff
A lot of people I know have Snapchat (aka everyone except like, three people, who are, coincidentally, my only real friends) but I am in favor of SNAPCHAT IS SO FUCKING DUMB WHY WOULD YOU WANT IT. SERIOUSLY.
I also kind of have an Instagram but not really because its my school's flute section's Instagram so idk if that really counts
So far I'm winning. LOL
But would you guys say that some platforms are dying out?
gen z here, tumblr is rad(andthenthesunwillrise)
yo! I use tumblr mostly (@xthreeravensx), Discord (@elle_m), and Pinterest occasionally
Discord's somewhat new to me, I only recently joined for a writers' server
Gen z here - Instagram, pinterest.
I think Twitter is dying, at least no one I know actually uses it.
So far I'm winning. LOL
But would you guys say that some platforms are dying out?
Younger generation doesn't seem to care for facebook very much. I don't hear people my age talk about twitter a whole lot either.
Oh and I use Twitch as well, forgot to mention that earlier. I don’t stream though I just watch streams on there.
And Reddit.
I think some platforms are dying out as well.
Facebook for sure is dying out, but its interesting to see the transition from photos to video. Like people want to see life on a screen. Does that make sense?
Also– Im curious. How does the writing servers on discord work? I've heard that people RP on there, but for the life of me I cannot figure out how that works.
I use discord for gaming mostly.
Writing servers? Like posting writing on discord?
There was an app called StoryCraft I used to use. I don’t use it anymore since it got shut down, but it was a writing (and RP) app. It was pretty neat as well. But we were warned off the shutdown a few weeks prior, so someone set up a discord server, so we could all join it. There’s sections to post photos, art, writing..
And onto writing, a lot of people there just get google docs or some sort of writing application where you can share links for other people. I usually use google docs, and just get the link of my story, and share it in the appropriate channel.
That's pretty cool actually. I knew there had to be other writing type communities out there but I never thought to look on Discord.
