This one is told from the viewpoint of my character, Jelohew (a sorcerer). I recommend reading the first one so you know what's going on.

—Sleep escaped me throughout the night. We had moved camp far from the fire but I found no comfort in that. We carried Alex's body with us and I sat next to him until dawn, keeping watch for the encroaching forest fire. Gabriel interrogated the Assassin, who referred to himself as Ghost. Ghost was a monster but at the same time a valuable resource. He had been working with the target of our recon mission, so he had a good idea about how large the enemy army was. He told us exactly what we needed to hear, fearing for his life.
—At the new day's light, we stripped Alex of all his valuables and set him into the burning forest. It would be best if no necromancers would be able to recover his body, hence the cremation. The journey back was simple but gloomy enough, riding our horses and wagon until we reached about where the antimagic field had started. When I finally felt the rush of magic surge through me I almost jumped for joy. It was almost a happy moment in light of our recent loss.
—We kept Ghost chained up the whole ride. He'd killed enough of us already, and we didn't need more death. But we don't always get what we want. Nearing the place that our headquarters was, we started noticing signs of fire. Not a natural fire, no. This was magical, set on purpose. A handprint burned into a nearby tree let us know for sure. Where once the headquarters of the Golden Shield Society proudly stood was now an arid area of ash and corpses. I immediately jumped off of the wagon, heart beating rapidly. I threw my eyes around the clearing, searching for survivors. There were none. Only charred shapes resembling people I used to know. My eyes came to rest upon a sight that I'd never thought I'd see. My mentor, Azzura… was dead. I knelt in the ash beside her, tears already forming. Even though I'd only known her for a few months, she had taught me more about magic than twenty years of my upbringing. My teammates blurred past me, frantically, desperately, looking for any sign of life.
—When at length I had finished mourning, the others reported their findings. Gabriel had found a lot. It was almost too much to take in. A burnt cloak, belonging to one of our best wizards, and a dagger owned by Faelin, our finest rogue. Gordon rushed over and told us about an odd circle he had seen on the ground, untouched by fire. My curiosity piqued, he led me to it. I got chills when I realized what it meant. It was a teleportation circle! And it had been activated recently! This meant that some people escaped! I frantically copied down the sigil into Alex's notebook. Just then, Gabriel gave a shout from across the desolated field. "Footprints!" he shouted. "Not our own! These are Lajos and Faelin's! They're alive!"
