Hey there, I know this isn't really the site to be asking this type of stuff on, but I figured that you guys are people too and a few of you have had experiences that have taught you so many things and made you grow as a person, but do any of you have advice for someone still growing up? Y'know, any life lessons or even just something small, like the motto you live by, or something that has stuck with you your entire life? I don't care if it is relationship advice, life advice or just general stuff that is completely meaningless, anything would probably help.
:D
Thanks,

Love takes time, so don't rush it. Don't stress over not having a perfect significant other. The right one is out there for you, and one day you'll bump into them without realizing it. You don't have to date a bunch of people and go through all that heart break. And, just because someone asks you, doesn't mean you have to say yes. If you don't have feelings like that deep down for them, let them down gently when they ask. It'll be much easier than letting them down later.

I’ve got a few things that have helped me in my life.

One is a poem by Edmund Vance Cooke called How Did You Die? It talks about how there are going to be times in your life where you get knocked down, beat up, and don’t feel like you can go on anymore, but it’s okay when those things happen because “it’s not the fact that you’re licked that counts/ But how did you fight and why?” Basically, the poem is telling you to make the best of your situation, fight as hard as you can, and, if you fail, stand back up and keep on living. “It’s not the fact that you’re dead that counts/ But only, how did you die?”

The second thing is something I learned in kindergarten while cleaning up toys, but it can be applied to every aspect of life: leave things better than you found them. Whether it be at work, in a restaurant, writing a book, painting a picture, or just sitting around talking with someone, if you go into those activities with the intention of leaving them better than you found them, encouraging someone through your actions, then there isn’t as much mess to deal with for the next person. If everyone tried to leave things better than they found them, the world would be a much better place.

And my last point: When facing unbeatable odds, just think of yourself as unbeatably odd. - Christopher Healy

I know this girl—let's call her Ella—who kept sneaking out and escaping her house to go places because her parents wouldn't let her. Then of course Ella's parents didn't let her go places as punishment, and thus the cycle continued. It got so bad that one night, on halloween, she snuck out to come hang out with me and some of my other friends. Afterwards, we all thought she went back home, but Ella's mom called my other friend's mom to ask if Ella was there because she hadn't come home yet. At 11:00 at night, Ella showed up at my other friend's house and apparently she had just been wandering around the neighbourhood in the middle of the night. Of course, Ella was grounded by her parents when she was found.

Moral of the story: just listen to your parents and don't be stupid. The reason she wasn't let out was probably because her parents didn't want her doing precisely this—wandering around some strange neighbourhood in the middle of the night. For some reason this girl could not see the connection between her sneaking out and disobeying her parents and being grounded. Maybe if she had obeyed her parents they would trust her enough to let her go out on her own, but I suppose we'll never know because as far as I know she still does it.

Is this even advice? I don't know if this counts as advice. Also I just realized how long it is in comparison to everybody else's. Oops. XD I'm not terribly wise, sorry. I hope my strange fable-esque story helped you. :)

@FantaPop

From someone who didn't think they'd ever make it to eighteen, let alone the age they are now: Keep on truckin', it'll work itself out in the end. Prepare for the worst, hope for the best, and deal with what you get. Sometimes your best decisions come from saying 'you know what? fuck it, let's do this', and sometimes that makes the worst decisions bearable lmao

@Masterkey

Well I'm a Christian, so I'd have to say that the most important advice anyone could ever give you is to give your life to Christ. But I won't go into that unless you want me to. :) I'll just explain what it means to me.

Responding to God's love for me by deciding to live for him was the best decision I've ever made, and it has changed me from the inside out. It gives my life direction and purpose, a purpose that's bigger than I am. Through every tough spot God is with me. And knowing that any suffering I'll endure on this earth will never compare to the eternity I will spend in heaven with him gives me endless amounts of bravery. I want to do good and love others because God first reached out to me with love BEFORE I was a "good" person. He came down to ME in my mess. He didn't wait before I got it together. He's here to help me get it together.

I know that might sound absolutely ridiculous to most people. But my experiences are there, and they're valid. And I'd be more than happy to discuss it with anyone.

@Mere

Hey Mumble! Here's couple things I wish I learned sooner that may be helpful to you:

  1. Make time for your loved ones
  2. You don't always have all the answers, so if you need help don't be afraid to ask for it
  3. Be kind to everyone because you don't always know what they've been through
  4. Be open to change and try new things

I'm also a Christian like @Masterkey. So I turn to Christ for a lot of my problems and He gives me guidance. Metaphorically speaking, it's like Christ ran the "race" (my life) for me, but instead of waiting for me at the end He runs back to me to help me finish.

@Duckie

I'm a lover of ducks and there is a quote that I adore 'Be like a duck. Calm on the surface, but paddling like the dickens underneath.' Oh and what will happen will happen, but if you don't like what is happening and you can change it, do it. No matter what is going on, even if you originally said yes you can always say no. You have that choice, always. I've had people get mad at me when I change my mind at the last second, but if they don't respect your decision then they're really not the people you should be surrounding your self with.
Best of luck!
